Luoqing pursed her lips and chuckled softly, feeling as if the two were playfully flirting; it seemed even the Emperor had such moments.
Xun Yu boldly stepped forward and hooked her arm around Emperor Jing's neck, completely unbothered by Luoqing's presence, clinging to him like a child. "So tell me, do you miss me?"
"What are you doing?" Emperor Jing pushed her away, his face flushed with embarrassment. He discreetly glanced at Luoqing and hurriedly said, "You two sisters probably won't see each other for quite some time. You should have a good chat!" With that, he fled without looking back.
Luoqing couldn't help but find his behavior childlike, and she let out a soft laugh. When she lifted her head again, she found Xun Yu's thoughtful gaze fixed on her.
For no reason at all, Luoqing shivered.
The autumn wind grew colder.
"Master, I've noticed that since you entered the palace, your complexion has improved day by day. You look increasingly charming; no wonder the Emperor can't help but stick by your side whenever he has free time. If I were a man, I wouldn't want to leave your side for even a moment," Kou'er, who was responsible for taking care of Luoqing, put down the rosewood comb and sincerely praised her while looking at her reflection in the mirror.
Luoqing shot her an annoyed glare. "You little girl! No wonder you can serve the Emperor at such a young age; all you do is feed people sweet nothings."
"Master, how can you say that? I was assigned to serve the Emperor by the Respectful Affairs Room; it has nothing to do with whether I'm sweet-tongued or not. Besides, if the Emperor didn't like you, would he have transferred me from Qianyang Palace to serve you?"
Luoqing's expression changed slightly. Emperor Jing liked her?
Thinking carefully, he did treat her well. Whenever there was something new or beautiful, it was always brought to Floating Fragrance Palace first. Now that the news of her pregnancy had been announced, he technically didn't need to visit her every day, yet every few days he found grand reasons to see her.
"The Emperor only cares for me because of my connection to him; he sees me as a sister!" She recalled how he had come specifically to have breakfast with her that morning and the gentle look in his eyes when he served her food, stirring a faint flutter in her heart.
This was the life she had once dreamed of, alongside Prince Xue.
Thinking of Prince Xue, Luoqing couldn't help but recall Xun Yu. She was alone in the vast Prince Xue's Residence, filled with loneliness, which surely couldn't be much better than her own situation.
"I wonder if she liked the jewelry we sent her last time," Luoqing mused.
"How could she not like it? Those were precious gifts from the Emperor to you," Kou'er retorted indignantly. "You've been more than kind to her!"
Luoqing shrugged dismissively. "It's been a long time since I've seen her. Kou'er, do you think if I asked the Emperor to invite my sister to the palace for a visit, he would agree?"
Kou'er shook her head. "My lady, the princess has people to take care of her. You should focus on yourself! Spending all day by the window in the breeze, you haven't even considered what season it is now. I noticed you coughed a few times during your nap; should we call an Imperial Physician to take a look?"
"That won't do! If I let an Imperial Physician check my pulse, it would be obvious something's wrong, wouldn't it? It's just a slight cold; it's nothing!" Luoqing replied, unconsciously pacing back to the window. She gazed at the withered plants in the courtyard, a sense of longing welling up within her. "Speaking of which, I've been in the palace for so long and have never left Floating Fragrance Palace. Back home, I heard there are countless rare flowers and plants in the imperial garden, but unfortunately, I've yet to see them."
"If you wish to go, Kou'er will accompany you," Kou'er offered.
"No way!"
