At that moment, the pursuers finally realized what was happening. They looked up at the giant beast in the sky and whispered in terror, "That... that is a Star Beast."
The Star Beast was waiting for a response. Upon hearing the man's voice, it seemed either disturbed or simply displeased with humans. With a swift flick of its tail, the man exploded into a shower of flesh, vanishing without a trace.
Among those chasing her, one person, unable to maintain composure in the face of such horror, turned and fled. However, he barely got a few steps away before the Star Beast swiped at him with a claw, turning him into a puddle of gore.
The remaining individuals were equally terrified but learned from the fate of the first two. Ignoring the falling debris, they quickly sought cover and crouched down.
Lin Yao had more opportunities to interact with Star Beasts in the Mingguang Star System and could clearly sense their brutality. She hurriedly found some rocks to conceal herself and suppress her aura.
To be honest, her boldness today in using the Beast Roar Simulator stemmed from knowledge she had gained from the memories of the Scale Serpent about the unique environment of the Yunmeng Star System.
The Yunmeng Star System was enveloped by a chaotic nebula; although it was isolated, it was quite safe. The chaotic nebula consisted of special materials that formed a tumultuous magnetic field. It was dangerous—getting too close would cause disorientation and lead high-tech spacecraft to get lost in space.
Moreover, it had a powerful gravitational pull; anything entering its magnetic range would be drawn in and difficult to escape from. However, it also had its advantages, as it could block many self-inflicted disasters and hinder various signals from propagating.
This created a situation where there were no Star Beasts in the Yunmeng Star System and few cosmic disasters. In her master's memories, there had never been any sightings of Star Beasts in that system.
Lin Yao also believed that there were truly no Star Beasts in Yunmeng. Therefore, when using the Beast Roar Simulator, she did not have many concerns. Little did she know that while no Star Beasts were drawn from outside, one was hidden on this desolate planet and had been awakened by her simulator.
At this moment, she could only hope that Su Rui and Tang Zhi would be clever enough to quickly notify the main forces of the Yunmeng military. Otherwise, not only would the people on this planet struggle to survive, but neighboring planets would likely suffer as well.
The Star Beast waited for a long time without receiving any response and scratched at the ground in frustration. To the beast, this might have been just a minor tantrum, but for those hiding beneath the rocks, it felt like doom.
Those who were concealed under threat of death disregarded the menace of the Star Beast and hurriedly used their abilities to shield themselves from falling rocks. The Star Beast was highly sensitive to energy; sensing their powers, it swung its tail once more.
One individual among them possessed defensive abilities—perhaps due to a higher level—and after being struck by the tail, he survived with only minor injuries. He shouted loudly, "With so many of us hiding here like this, we’re just waiting to die! We might as well fight this Star Beast!"
As soon as those words were spoken, a few people were indeed swayed and stepped forward. They unleashed their abilities and began to fight against the star beast. Colorful bursts of energy shot towards the creature, but unfortunately, while it did not retaliate, it also did not sustain any damage.
Although the attacks lacked real harm, the star beast was enraged that someone dared to assault it. It swiftly retaliated with a claw swipe. However, this group had considerable combat experience; they anticipated the beast's attack and raised a yellowish shield to protect themselves. Though they were ultimately knocked back, they managed to escape with their lives.
With this initial success, the group grew more resolute in their decision to unite against the star beast. They continued to unleash their abilities and engaged in a fierce struggle. Unbeknownst to them, while they fought valiantly, someone had slipped away from the side and made a break for the base.
While they fought desperately in front, someone was escaping behind them, which infuriated the group. They began to curse loudly at the cowardice of their comrade. Watching as those who had once pursued her turned on each other, Lin Yao felt no schadenfreude; she had seen such scenarios far too often before.
However, the turn of events was somewhat unexpected. Just when that person thought they had escaped, the star beast abandoned its current targets and charged after the fleeing individual. There was no way someone on foot could outrun a creature soaring through the sky. Even though that person possessed speed-related abilities, they barely managed to cover a few thousand meters before being caught by the star beast, which sent them flying with a single swipe of its tail.
That individual wasn’t completely defenseless, though. Just before the star beast attacked, they activated their defensive gear. As a result, while the blow didn’t kill them, it propelled them closer to the base.
Once they hit the ground, they continued running toward the base without looking back. The distance grew too great for anyone to see what was happening over there.
Meanwhile, those who had been prepared to risk their lives now watched this dramatic scene unfold in silence, exchanging glances before scattering in different directions. Some chose to flee for their lives while others aimed to return to the base for safety.
Once Lin Yao confirmed that everyone had left, she quickly departed from her hiding spot and set out to find Su Rui and Tang Zhi. Upon reaching the cave where she expected to find them, she discovered that it had collapsed.
However, Lin Yao did not panic; given their cleverness, she didn’t believe that either of them would be easily crushed like that. After searching carefully around the area, she found clues left behind by Su Rui not far away.
Following the clues, they discovered that the two were getting closer to the base with each step, and eventually found them just two thousand meters away from it.
"What are you two doing here?"
The two were so focused on something that Lin Yao's sudden question startled them. After a moment of surprise, their expressions shifted to joy.
Su Rui happily grabbed her hand. "You’re really here!"
Lin Yao nodded. "You still haven't answered my question. How did you end up here?"
"Our cave collapsed, so we had to escape. But then we heard from Tang Zhi that their people were arriving earlier than expected, so we decided to come over here and keep an eye on things."
Upon hearing this, Lin Yao's face lit up with excitement. "Did you ask how many people came?"
"About two fleets, I think," Su Rui replied.
Lin Yao was taken aback by the mention of fleets. She had no concept of what a fleet consisted of, neither from her own experiences nor from the memories she possessed.
She could only ask directly, "I don't know how many ships are in a fleet, but I want to know if you can handle a Level Six Star Beast."
"Star Beast?" Su Rui's eyes widened in surprise. "Could it be that the two unusual roars we heard were..."
Lin Yao nodded firmly. "Yes, that Star Beast has probably been sleeping on this planet for many years, with dirt piled up around it like a mountain. Just now, I used a beast roar simulator near its resting place, and it must have thought it was another companion calling, which is why it got up to look for them."
