With a single vial of medicine, Tang Zhi's bleeding stopped instantly, and his wounds began to heal slowly.
"How are you feeling? Are you better?" Lin Yao asked with concern as she saw Tang Zhi open his eyes.
Tang Zhi nodded, struggling to sit up, but she pressed him back down. "Don't move yet. You've just taken the medicine, and your wounds are still healing."
"Where am I?" Tang Zhi inquired.
"You've been rescued by us. We're hiding in a cave for now; it's temporarily safe here."
"What about the others?"
"The buyer is quite formidable. We couldn't overpower him, so we could only do our best to save you."
Hearing this, Tang Zhi understood and nodded, though his mood sank.
Lin Yao assumed that the undercover agent felt a strong sense of responsibility and could only offer awkward comfort. "Didn't you say your people were on their way? They should be fine."
However, Su Rui completely disregarded his feelings and grinned, "You weren't... you know... with that young master, were you?"
Tang Zhi immediately jumped up as if struck by lightning, vehemently denying it. "No! That person just tortured me; nothing else happened!"
"But from what I see of your injuries, it doesn't look too clean," Su Rui said coolly.
To be honest, Lin Yao was also curious about whether Tang Zhi had been violated but was afraid of hurting his pride and didn't dare to ask. At this moment, she admired Su Rui's courage a bit.
"I swear I'm fine!" Tang Zhi protested, his face flushed.
"I don't believe you unless you show me," Su Rui teased.
"Pervert!" Tang Zhi angrily turned his head away.
Seeing his reaction, Lin Yao confirmed that Tang Zhi had indeed not been harmed.
It seemed that Su Rui's purpose was merely to confirm this, as he stopped pressing the issue afterward.
Everyone fell silent, and the atmosphere became somewhat awkward.
"Someone's coming!" It was this moment of quiet that alerted Lin Yao to a disturbance.
She quickly got up to check at the cave entrance and saw a team of armored individuals approaching from a distance.
"It must be our rescue operation that made them realize the beast sounds were fake," she concluded.
"What are we waiting for? Let's hurry and leave!" Su Rui urged.
"No way. Tang Zhi's wounds are healing right now; moving could ruin everything!" Lin Yao rejected his suggestion firmly.
"If we can't leave, then what do we do?" Su Rui asked, a bit agitated.
Lin Yao pondered for a moment before saying, "Give me the beast sound simulator; I'll draw them away."
"Are you crazy? Enough with the nonsense. If we delay any longer, we’re all going to die together."
Su Rui, feeling helpless, handed her the Beast Sound Simulator.
Lin Yao took it and turned to leave, but Su Rui grabbed her arm.
"What's wrong?"
Su Rui slipped a spatial buckle into her hand and whispered, "This is my latest bio-mecha prototype. Wei can pilot it for a short time. Be careful, don’t get yourself killed!"
It was well-known that Wei's body, with its underdeveloped bones and organs, was not suited for piloting mechas to avoid damaging their foundational health.
Hearing that Wei could pilot it briefly shocked Lin Yao, and she quickly tucked it away.
"I'm leaving now. You all stay safe."
The surface of the wasteland was completely exposed, covered in mud and sand, making movement difficult and hiding nearly impossible.
As Lin Yao stepped out of the cave, she carefully concealed her movements. After putting some distance between herself and Tang Zhi’s hiding place, she activated the Beast Sound Simulator.
The moment the simulator emitted a sound, she spotted a group of people rushing towards her at high speed.
Guessing they must have acceleration abilities, she dared not linger. She stowed away the simulator and began to run frantically.
With their superior physical skills and acceleration abilities, she knew she couldn't keep running like this; otherwise, they would catch up to her sooner or later.
After some thought, she decided to abandon the Beast Sound Simulator entirely.
Finding a peak that could obscure her view, Lin Yao tossed the simulator onto the ground and hid in a concealed spot herself.
She planned to wait until those people were distracted by searching for the simulator before sneaking away.
Holding her breath and focusing, she concealed herself among the sand piles as their footsteps grew closer.
With a long cry from the simulator, the opposing group accelerated again.
Just as they were about to pass by her location while searching for the simulator, the ground suddenly began to shake without warning.
What was happening? Was there going to be an earthquake?
The group chasing Lin Yao hesitated for a moment, standing still to discuss what to do next.
"Captain, in this situation, should we continue pursuing or go back to protect the young master?"
"If it's only our side experiencing tremors and nothing is happening at the base, will the young master blame us?"
As captain, he appeared troubled and hesitated without answering.
As time passed, the ground trembled more violently. At that moment, Lin Yao could no longer hide; the shaking earth revealed her presence, and she was discovered by the group.
"Captain, over there!"
They were too close for comfort. With no other option, Lin Yao sprinted toward the epicenter of the quake. The tremors intensified, making it impossible for anyone to stand still; those who chased and those who fled stumbled chaotically.
The ground began to crack open, and the mountainside started to collapse, large boulders and sand cascading down. Lin Yao faced perilous obstacles as she ran, while her pursuers encountered their own dangers.
"Stop running, or you’ll lose your life! If you surrender, you might still have a chance to live!" one of her pursuers shouted in fear from behind.
Lin Yao ignored the shouts, focusing intently on the falling rocks and the fissures in the ground, searching for safe spots to land. The Beast Cry Simulator continued its wailing as the chase persisted.
The mountainside cracked even more severely, large sections beginning to slide down. Lin Yao skillfully dodged a falling rock, but not everyone in her pursuers' small team was so fortunate; several were directly buried by the collapsing mountain.
Now, those who had been chasing her dared not continue and began to retreat. Another long cry echoed through the air.
However, this cry was entirely different from the sounds produced by the simulator. Everyone turned their attention to where the sound originated. Suddenly, with a thunderous boom, a section of the mountain exploded. Amidst the cloud of dust and debris, a massive creature began to emerge.
Both Lin Yao, fleeing for her life, and her pursuers stood frozen in shock. Before them was a colossal beast resembling both a lizard and a crocodile that burst forth from the mountainside, letting out a deafening roar that shook the very air.
After its cry, it floated momentarily in midair, circling as if searching for something. When it found nothing, it emitted a long, gentle call that differed from its initial roar.
Lin Yao realized then that this star beast must have been awakened by her Beast Cry Simulator. It thought its companions had arrived and was looking for them. Unfortunately, the simulator had been buried under some rocks and was now completely silent.
