"Everyone, let's go!" 0

Among them, a timid boy hesitated at the sight before him. "I'm a bit scared. Can we not go?" 0

"You accepted the mission. Now you want to back out? Who am I supposed to find to take your place?" the mercenary replied bluntly. 0

"But I—" 0

"You can leave now, but it will cost you a hundred thousand star coins." 0

"I don't have that much money." 0

"No money? Then you're coming with us on the mission. If you delay our mercenary group, it won't just be a hundred thousand star coins to settle this." The mercenary shouted without mercy. 0

The timid boy, clearly unaccustomed to such situations, was so frightened that he dared not say another word. 0

At that moment, Sister Hong stepped forward to mediate. "Now, now. It's normal for young ones just starting out to feel scared. After a few more missions, you won't be afraid anymore. Come on, let's board the ship!" 0

Surrounded by several mercenaries, the inexperienced mission-takers had no choice but to follow onto the ship. 0

Inside, the spacecraft was just as shabby as it appeared outside. Aside from a few rows of worn-out seats, various packed supplies cluttered the empty spaces, making the ship seem even more dilapidated. 0

Of course, the mercenaries did not sit with them; they had their own designated area. Thus, these rickety seats were all that was left for the inexperienced crew. 0

Seeing this scene, the young mission-takers wore expressions of discomfort. Lin Yao pretended not to notice and calmly found a seat for herself. 0

Soon after, a thin boy who looked like a straw stalk sat down next to her. In Yunmeng Star, where everyone practiced martial arts and food was plentiful, it was indeed rare to see someone so emaciated. 0

His expression was different from others; his cheeks were flushed and his eyes sparkled with excitement. 0

Once everyone settled in, the spacecraft quickly powered up. 0

Then Lin Yao heard the straw-like boy mumbling something beside her. She strained to catch his words and curiously asked in a low voice, "What did you just say?" 0

She thought he wouldn’t respond, but instead, the boy leaned closer with an excited expression and whispered, "This is a modified spaceship that can travel through space like a starship!" 0

Lin Yao was taken aback for a moment. 0

In Yunmeng Star, starships were designated for space travel while spacecraft were used for internal flights on planets. She had heard of starships being modified from spacecraft before but never of spacecraft being converted into starships. 0

These people are incredibly bold. Don't they fear the spaceship falling apart in space? 0

The young girl thought she hadn't understood and explained, "They want to use the spaceship's shell to sneak through the port's loopholes!" 0

Sneak through? 0

"Exactly. They had unfriendly expressions when they were outside, and now they're modifying the spaceship into a starship for smuggling. They must have some grand scheme. What do you think they're planning?" 0

At this stage, even the most naive person knows that these mercenaries have ulterior motives. 0

"I just secretly sent a message using my light brain, but it showed that the sending failed. The signal here is clearly being jammed." 0

It's strange that she's so excited about something so serious. 0

Lin Yao shot her a sideways glance, while Shao grew more animated with each word. 0

"I guess they either plan to take us to an unfamiliar planet and then kidnap us to extort our families, or they want to drain us of our wealth and then sell us off!" 0

Aren't you scared at all? 0

"What’s there to be afraid of? If they dare to kidnap me, they’ll be in for a rude awakening." 0

Oh really? You have a backup plan? 0

"Nope. I ran away from home all by myself." 0

You have no preparations at all, yet you're so excited? 0

"Look at their skills; they don't seem very high. I wonder what they're relying on." 0

While Lin Yao was still speculating, Shao suddenly blurted out, "But I can dismantle their spaceship." 0

Lin Yao, who knew nothing about mechanics, could only give him a thumbs up. 0

This spaceship looked pretty shabby, yet it managed to reach its destination smoothly. However, the planet they landed on was clearly not the original target. 0

After landing, the mercenaries from the front cabin came over and herded the group of inexperienced taskers off the ship like sheep. 0

Once they disembarked, all they could see was a sky full of yellow sand; there were no trees or jungles in sight. 0

One young man couldn't contain himself and shouted, "You lied! This isn't even a planet!" 0

Upon reaching their destination, these mercenaries finally revealed their true colors. 0

"Are you really that slow to react? Only just realizing you've been tricked?" 0

"What do you want from us?" 0

A mercenary shoved the young man, nearly knocking him to the ground, while the others aimed their energy guns at them. 0

"Stop wasting time! Hand over your light brains and spatial devices now!" 0

"I won't!" 0

Before he could protest further, the mercenary kicked him to the ground, stepping on his head as he roughly took the spatial device from him and yanked the light brain from his hands. 0

Still unsatisfied, the mercenary kicked him a few more times before looking at the remaining people, threateningly saying, "The rest of you should know better than to make me do this myself, right?" 0

The number of mercenaries was roughly equal to that of the deceived taskers, both groups numbering around a dozen. However, their combat abilities were vastly different. 0

The young taskers were all level three or four ability users, most lacking combat experience. The mercenaries were seasoned fighters or ability users with considerable size and presence, and it was evident from their aura that they had blood on their hands. 0

With the taskers being complete strangers to one another, they felt like sheep surrounded by a pack of wolves in front of these organized mercenaries—essentially powerless to resist. 0

Faced with such a disparity in strength, even the most stubborn among them had no choice but to comply and hand over their spatial devices. 0

Lin Yao's spatial device was attached to her light brain, so she removed both together and handed them over. 0

Once everyone had surrendered their devices, it still wasn't over. Soon after, a mercenary named Red Sister began scanning each person with a device resembling a scanner. 0

When it beeped oddly near one of the young men, he immediately received a brutal beating from the mercenaries. He curled up on the ground in pain like a shrimp. 0

"I knew you little brats wouldn't be honest! Hand over everything now! This is your last chance—if I find anything hidden, I'll take you out!" 0

This threat indeed scared many into revealing their concealed spatial devices. Red Sister continued her scanning without pause. 0

Once everyone had been scanned, she stepped back. 0

The leading mercenary commanded, "Everyone better behave and follow me! Don't even think about pulling any tricks! If you do, don't blame my gun for being merciless!" 0

With that order given, the other mercenaries aimed their energy guns at all the young taskers, urging them to move out. Even the two who had been beaten on the ground were treated no differently and were forced to get up and follow along. 0
