"What are you doing?" She had her tricks down so well that I could count them with my eyes closed—she would shed tears, act pitiful, and pretend to be kind.
Before she could finish her words, the situation changed dramatically. I heard Youyou exclaim, "No, I can't let the Fish Scale Python eat the Gu Diao egg!"
Then she suddenly struck out, launching a water arrow towards the cliff opposite her.
The Fish Scale Python was a beast that thrived on its scales but also fell victim to them. When there was no water, it was helpless; when there was water, it couldn't control itself either.
With just a weak water arrow that barely touched the python, merely splashing a few droplets, the creature lost control and slid down the cliff.
Just as success seemed within reach, a feeble water arrow disrupted everything, and the anger of the crowd was palpable.
Wang Jincheng stormed toward the back, furious. "Who shot that water arrow? Step forward!"
Youyou had heard of his notorious temper and dared not reveal herself. However, some strangers who witnessed her action were quick to point her out. "Wang Shao, it was this woman."
Youyou hid behind her teammates, tears welling in her eyes as she pleaded pitifully, "Wang Shao, I was just concerned for that unborn Gu Diao."
Wang Jincheng was not one to show mercy; he shoved aside her teammates and grabbed her by the collar, lifting her off the ground. "I don't care what you meant! You need to go kill those two Gu Diao right now. Otherwise, I'll throw you off this cliff to keep the Fish Scale Python company!"
Youyou's tears flowed even more freely now; this time she wasn't just pretending to be pitiful—she was genuinely scared. "Wang Shao, you... you can't do this! It's illegal!"
Wang Jincheng showed no sign of compassion; instead, a cruel smile spread across his face. "Then I'll tie you up with a vine and hang you over the cliff to attract the Gu Diao. If they kill you, it won't be my fault."
As he spoke, he began looking for vines to bind Youyou.
Terrified, she completely forgot about maintaining her composure and cried out loudly, "Wang Shao! I was wrong! I realize my mistake! Please let me go!"
"Why would I let you off so easily?" Wang Jincheng tightened his grip on her while casually picking up a vine to start binding her.
"I'll compensate you! I’ll make it up to you!" Youyou's face was streaked with tears and snot.
"What can you offer?" Wang Jincheng continued to tie her up.
"I'll give you a vision enhancement potion."
"How much?"
"One."
"Do you think I'm desperate for just one potion? You really underestimate me." Wang Jincheng finally finished tying her up and began dragging her toward the edge of the cliff.
Ten of them. Wang Jincheng grabbed her at the edge of the cliff and maliciously pushed her to look at the deep ravine below.
"Alright, I agree," Youyou said, her voice trembling with fear.
Everyone watched the scene unfold, none daring to speak up to stop it.
Zhenzhen couldn't help but click her tongue, thinking that sometimes a villain needed another villain to deal with them. Youyou had really kicked a hornet's nest this time.
Lin Yao shot a glance at her, "Is this what you're dealing with? You can't even go home?"
"I moved out on my own!" Zhenzhen quickly retorted.
"Oh?"
"Besides, what’s Youyou to me? I could easily handle her. My stepmother is the real master of manipulation."
"If you need help, you can ask us," Lin Yao said, pointing to herself and then to the two boys who were eagerly watching the drama unfold.
Zhenzhen scoffed, "Forget it. If those two haven't been fooled by Youyou yet, that would be impressive enough."
"They're not the brightest, but if you tell them she's your enemy, they'll believe you and help you without question."
"How silly! What if I sell them out and they happily help me count the money?" Zhenzhen teased with a grin.
"You can give it a try."
At that moment, Meng Xingchen finished watching the spectacle and approached them, asking, "What are you talking about?"
Zhenzhen pointed at Youyou, who was half-crouched on the ground, crying pitifully. "I have a grudge against that woman."
"Oh, then I'll go teach her a lesson," Meng Xingchen said without hesitation as he prepared to stride over.
Zhenzhen quickly stopped him. "Let’s not do that this time. Everyone has calmed down now. If we hit her again and things escalate, what then? We should wait for another opportunity."
"Alright, if you want to deal with her next time, just let me know."
"Sure thing! I’ll count on you then, Young Master Meng."
"We're teammates; just call me by my name."
Even if they managed to give Youyou a beating, the damage was already done. Their previous plans could no longer continue; they would have to think of new ways to move forward.
Looking at the group of frowning boys deep in thought and then glancing at the sky, they knew they had to come up with something soon.
After a long day of struggles, Lin Yao realized that if they delayed any further, they would have to spend the night here. With only three days left until the exam, she worried that if something unexpected happened on the way, they might not make it in time.
Thinking this, Lin Yao turned to Zhen Zhen and asked, "Are you willing to lend a hand?"
"I don't mind," Zhen Zhen shrugged.
"Then I'll go ask." With that, Lin Yao approached Yao Beiluo and said, "If we keep dragging this out, we'll be pressed for time before the exam. I have a teammate who's good with poison; should we let her give it a try?"
Before Yao Beiluo could respond, Zhou Heng teased, "Why has Captain Lin been hiding such an impressive teammate? If you had mentioned her earlier, we wouldn't have wasted so much time."
"That method isn't bad either; I thought we didn't need to add more embellishments," Wang Jincheng chimed in, unable to hold back his frustration. "Damn that woman! I really want to hit her again."
Ignoring them, Yao Beiluo turned to Lin Yao and said, "Then please have your teammate step in."
The two Gu Diao had already grown tired from the previous battle; one was resting in its nest while the other crouched nearby, keeping watch over them.
Lin Yao led Zhen Zhen as they walked onto the wooden bridge. The Gu Diao became agitated again and emitted warning calls. When it saw that the two were ignoring it and continuing forward, it flapped its wings violently and dove towards them.
At that moment, they had just walked about thirty-one steps, feeling unsteady as the powerful gusts from the Gu Diao's wings threatened to knock them off balance. It was enough to make anyone sweat nervously.
Lin Yao remained calm and steady, even reaching out to grab Zhen Zhen's arm. As the Gu Diao lunged at them, she quickly conjured a thick vine that ensnared its claws.
Zhen Zhen also kept her cool and seized the opportunity to throw a handful of powder at the Gu Diao. Lin Yao then released her hold on it.
Startled, the Gu Diao flapped its wings frantically to distance itself from the two. However, after only a short distance, it suddenly seemed to lose control and plummeted down towards the mountain stream below.
