The night was as dark as ink, and the air was so hot that it felt almost suffocating.
Lin Xue lay lazily on the bed, sweat pooling around her, nearly soaking her through. After a moment of gathering herself, she headed downstairs to take a shower.
She needed to hurry; after all, the water would be turned off at ten-thirty. She glanced at her watch.
Fortunately, there were still fifteen minutes left—plenty of time.
She hurried down the stairs.
The bathroom was located in the East Ear Room on the first floor, along with the Power Distribution Room, the Guard Room, and two Self-Study Halls. Additionally, there was a spacious hall large enough for a dance.
No students lived on the first floor.
The bathroom was open for free use from eight in the evening until ten-thirty for students in this building; this arrangement was common across all apartment buildings, considering how hot the weather was. It truly showed thoughtfulness towards the students.
In the changing room, Lin Xue quickly stripped off her clothes without hesitation as the sound of rushing water filled the bathroom.
Thankfully, she had company.
Otherwise, showering alone at this hour would have been quite eerie.
The water flowed rapidly, striking her skin with a slight sting. Lin Xue instantly felt a refreshing chill from head to toe, lifting her spirits considerably. She began to chat casually with the girl next to her. Before long, that girl finished her shower.
"Wash by yourself; I'm leaving now. BYEBYE." The girl wrapped in a towel walked out.
Wash by myself? But there’s still someone here.
"What floor are you on?" Lin Xue asked, swaying under the water spray.
But the girl seemed to ignore her, and the empty bathroom echoed only with Lin Xue's voice. Curiously, Lin Xue glanced at the girl opposite her.
The girl stood motionless under the showerhead, slightly hunched over, her hands hanging limply at her sides, allowing the heavy stream of water to drench her without flinching.
Her long hair hung down, neatly brushed to her forehead, almost completely obscuring her face. Water flowed down her hair and pooled on the bathroom floor.
"Wow, your hair is so long! You must have been growing it for a long time. It must be a hassle to take care of, right? You really have determination; I can't stand it when my hair gets past my neck," Lin Xue said, brushing her own hair that just reached her neck.
Lin Xue continued to talk about long hair, but the girl remained completely still.
The water was getting colder, and Lin Xue couldn't help but shiver, deciding it was time to leave.
"Isn't it time to go?" Lin Xue glanced at her companion and suddenly felt a chill rising from her feet.
After being drenched in cold water for so long, the girl's skin had taken on a slight bluish hue.
Seeing this, Lin Xue thought it best to leave first. Just as she stepped out of the bathroom, she turned back for one last look at the girl. To her shock, she saw the girl peering at her through the gaps in her hair. That one glance nearly made Lin Xue stumble.
In the midst of her long black hair, only her right eye was visible, glaring fiercely at him.
"Those inside, hurry up and go to bed!"
The loud voice of the Aunt Administrator snapped Lin Xue back to reality.
Lin Xue rushed out in a panic, her clothes not even properly worn.
In the corridor, several lovely girls were chatting on the phone, and as the lights were about to go out, the relatively quiet first floor was undoubtedly the perfect place for whispering secrets.
The aunt was pacing back and forth in the corridor, urging everyone to return to their rooms. When she saw Lin Xue dawdling at the bathroom door, she hurried her to finish up and go back.
Lin Xue nodded in agreement, but her curiosity still compelled her to sneak a look at what the Long-Haired Girl inside looked like.
"What are you staring at? Hurry back to sleep! What’s wrong with kids these days..." The aunt scolded with a frown. Just as she turned to head up the stairs, Lin Xue caught a glimpse of a white figure slipping into the staircase at the end of the corridor.
