"Dreaming of You, are you being forced into this?"
Zhao Yao questioned, her voice laced with concern. "How could your best friend be seen with someone like that?"
Xiao Chen also spotted Su Menghan and felt a surge of displeasure. To be honest, Su Menghan's stunning beauty had once captivated him. Unfortunately, she was Zhao Yao's close friend, and he couldn't find an opportunity to approach her. Seeing her getting close to Chen Anlin ignited a spark of anger within him.
"How dare you touch my woman?"
"Hey, didn't I tell you before? Su Menghan betrayed me; she reported me, saying you were hiding in my house," Zhao Yao explained.
"This woman is too foolish. Associating with someone like Chen Anlin, who is just toying with her, will only lead to her being discarded once he's bored!" Zhao Yao continued. "You should really talk some sense into your friend. I have a certain influence here; I need to find a way to make Su Menghan realize her mistake."
"Yes, I'll look for an opportunity to talk to her," Zhao Yao replied, still holding onto hope for Su Menghan.
Moreover, she couldn't understand one thing: Su Menghan had always encouraged her to pursue Chen Anlin in the past. Why was she now walking alongside him?
Feeling perplexed, she wanted to confront Su Menghan directly.
"Quickly! Chen Anlin has arrived!" Su Menghan was walking alone when Zhao Yao approached her.
"Menghan, are you being forced into this?" Zhao Yao's voice caught Su Menghan off guard.
Su Menghan paused and then smirked. "Zhao Yao, why don’t you understand? Why do you think Chen Anlin is inferior to Xiao Chen? Is it because he’s poor? Because of the worthless stones he gave you? Or the wildflowers he picked by the roadside? Or perhaps because he constantly bothers you for training resources?"
Zhao Yao was taken aback.
"Menghan, how can you compare Chen Anlin with Xiao Chen? Sure, Xiao Chen is poor, but at least he works hard."
Zhao Yao felt a pang in her heart; her once dear friend was now defending Chen Anlin. What was she thinking? Didn't she fear being bullied by him?
Su Menghan shook her head in disbelief. "Forget it; if you think he's hardworking, then let it be."
"Leave Chen Anlin alone," Zhao Yao said firmly. "I’m telling you, Xiao Chen is doing well here, surrounded by a group of supporters. In the future, Chen Anlin will definitely suffer."
Su Menghan smiled slightly. "The group you’re talking about, are they those broke losers? The children of poor families? The ones who have nothing?"
She glanced at the group gathered around Xiao Chen not far away. Some of them were even worse off than Xiao Chen, coming from truly impoverished backgrounds. They followed Xiao Chen purely because of his strength; he promised to protect them and occasionally taught them some techniques.
"Yes, look at how respected Xiao Chen is," Zhao Yao said proudly. "From now on, Chen Anlin will definitely be isolated, just like those other rich kids before him."
"Uh, why do you think it's those people isolating the rich kids? Why not the rich kids isolating him instead? Why do you think people prefer to associate with ordinary folks rather than the powerful?" Su Menghan's expression was strange. She felt that Zhao Yao's logic was off.
Isn't it normal to want to climb higher? To climb higher, one must befriend influential people. Why would you want to associate with those who are worse off than you?
Zhao Yao was momentarily stunned by Su Menghan's series of questions and suddenly felt that her actions seemed a bit off. However, Su Menghan interrupted her thoughts with her next words: "Alright, Zhao Yao, Chen Anlin is coming out. I need to find him."
"Wait, let me ask one last thing. Weren't you the one who wanted me to get close to Chen Anlin? Now you're walking with him; what does that mean?"
Su Menghan looked at her with pity and explained, "Don’t you understand? If you don’t get close to him, how can I have my chance?"

Her words completely awakened Zhao Yao. She stared wide-eyed in disbelief at Su Menghan. She had been tricked into getting close to him while Su Menghan took advantage of the situation.
She wanted to say something else, but unfortunately, Su Menghan had already ignored her and walked over to Chen Anlin.
"What were you talking about with that woman?" Chen Anlin asked Su Menghan.
Su Menghan covered her mouth and chuckled softly. It was amusing how she and Xiao Chen had such unconventional thoughts; they actually believed that isolating him with a group of ordinary students would work. It was laughable.
Chen Anlin also found it entertaining. "Interesting. Well then, let's see who will stand out on the battlefield!"
After completing their enlistment procedures, he and Su Menghan finished their morning training. Soon after, the academy's instructors led them toward the city wall.
This city wall served as the ultimate defense against the northern barbarian army. Without this towering wall, over sixty meters high, this place would have been breached long ago.
Even so, Chen Anlin noticed several large breaches in the wall. The surface bore claw marks and signs of violent attacks. The scars from blades and swords were countless. Among those claw marks, some were particularly alarming; they belonged to a special unit of the northern barbarians known as the Wolf Cavalry.
Within the northern territories lived giant wolves, roughly the size of horses. After domestication, these wolves possessed running capabilities that rivaled those of horses.
As they arrived, a group of armored individuals approached them.
"Welcome, students from various academies," said a middle-aged man clad in black armor. His cultivation level reached the fourth rank, and his followers exuded a formidable aura.
"I am Huang Li, the commander here and also responsible for your training. You are the finest students from the Great Zhou academies, the pillars of our future. However, remember that situations on the battlefield can change in an instant. I hope everyone remains vigilant and protects themselves."
"Now, let's head to the barracks; I'll give you a tour."
