The locals were incredibly rude.
Yang Dou originally refused to eat, after all, the rabbit was so cute. However, after taking a bite, she found herself unable to stop. She even considered finding some wild game tomorrow to give to Chen Anlin to roast.
After they were full and satisfied, Chen Anlin and Su Menghan exchanged knowing glances. The gist of their conversation was:
Chen Anlin: Oh?
Su Menghan: No.
Bite?
No.
Kun?
Okay.
"Sister Dou'er, Menghan and I will go find some water. You can rest for now," Chen Anlin said after discussing with Su Menghan. Su Menghan's face turned red; although she was a bad girl, she still felt embarrassed about such matters, especially in the wild, where it felt particularly unique. She was afraid that Sister Yang Dou would notice something.
Fortunately, Yang Dou was quite oblivious and didn’t think much of it. She found it strange that the water jug had seemed full just a moment ago, yet now it was empty. Also, what had the two of them just been talking about?
Unable to figure it out, she decided not to overthink it. As a strategist beside the Empress, she didn’t particularly enjoy using her brain. After all, nothing was as enjoyable as cultivation.
Meanwhile, Chen Anlin led Su Menghan to the riverside. Just as they were about to immerse themselves in nature’s warmth, they noticed a flickering light on the opposite hillside across the river.
"Something's going on; put your clothes back on," Chen Anlin said, his mind racing as he observed the scene.
What did he see? Although he couldn’t clearly see any people, one individual's aura caught his attention. This person originally had a mere layer of luck surrounding them, but above that layer was another layer of ethereal luck.
If it rose up, it would be a staggering ninety layers of luck! What did this signify?
A great opportunity is about to arrive for this person!
Chen Anlin never expected that by simply going out for a little adventure, he would stumble upon such a significant chance.
"Haha, I gladly accept your fortune!"
Su Menghan, on the other hand, felt a bit resentful. Just as she was getting into the mood, it was suddenly interrupted. No one likes that.
"What’s so interesting about hunting over there?" Su Menghan muttered.
Chen Anlin sensed the discontent in her tone and replied, "I have a feeling something is going to happen over there. Let’s go take a look."
"You don’t like me anymore," Su Menghan said, pouting.
"What are you talking about? I like you! I’ll make it up to you later."
"Three times," Su Menghan insisted.
"Alright, alright, you really want to wear me out, don’t you?"
Chen Anlin chuckled, finding her anger rather adorable at times. She could be a bit unreasonable, but he would make sure she completely submitted to him later.
While Su Menghan was tidying up, Chen Anlin took a quick step towards the flickering light on the nearby hill.
He saw four people dressed in coarse linen clothes; they were likely villagers from the area. The four of them were holding torches, and the leader, a tall man with a bushy beard, excitedly pointed ahead and said, "According to the map, this is the place!"
Upon hearing this, the two younger men behind him looked delighted. Only one thin young man appeared somewhat anxious as he scanned the surroundings.
Suddenly, the bearded man turned to the thin young man and asked, "Tang Liu, why are you looking around so nervously?"
"Boss, I have a bad feeling; it’s suddenly so quiet here," Tang Liu replied uneasily.
At that moment, the sounds of insects and birds seemed to vanish into thin air.
"Forget it; let’s enter this ancient tomb first," the bearded man said as he gazed at the cave entrance with fervor. "Once we open this place up, we’ll be rich! We can enjoy life and marry ten or eight beauties without any worries! Hahaha!"
"Boss, be careful of zongzi," Tang Liu warned. "I read in a book that sometimes zongzi appear in ancient tombs."
"Zongzi? What nonsense! Tang Liu, have you gone crazy from reading too much? Those books are all fake!" The bearded man cursed under his breath, thinking Tang Liu was just a bookworm.
He knew that he and his two companions were seasoned tomb raiders; they had raided at least eight or ten tombs without ever encountering any zongzi.
If it weren’t for their inability to decipher the words on the map, he wouldn’t have brought along someone like Tang Liu.
"But what if there really are zongzi?" Tang Liu pressed on.
"If there are, my knife isn’t just for show."
"I’ve heard that zongzi have strong defenses."
"Tang Liu, are you done yet? Do you ever stop talking?" The bearded man glared in Tang Liu's direction.
Tang Liuyi looked bewildered. "Big Brother, I didn’t say anything just now!"
The others responded, "Did you speak?"
"No," the other two shook their heads.
"Hey, we have an extra person here!"
As they scanned the area, they noticed a tall figure slowly emerging from the trees on the right.
"Sorry, I was just passing by and overheard a bit," Chen Anlin said with a smile, revealing his white teeth.
Swish!!!
The four of them drew their blades in unison, their eyes fixed menacingly on Chen Anlin.
"You brat, all alone? Are you from around here?"
"Yes!" Chen Anlin chuckled. "Why are you drawing your blades? I was hoping we could work together!"
"Work together? How do you propose we do that?"
"Everyone gets a share!" Chen Anlin pointed toward a nearby tomb entrance.
"Hahaha, how rude of a local! Coming here and demanding a share right away. Who do you think you are?"
The man with the bushy beard laughed in anger.
The other two also scoffed, thinking to themselves that he should know who they were—grave robbers who wouldn’t hesitate to kill!
Only Tang Liuyi frowned and quietly stepped back, hiding behind his leader.
Chen Anlin shook his head. "I’m serious. Also, my courtesy is only for good people."
"Seeking death? Watch me cut you down!"
The bushy-bearded man growled, his blade emanating a chilling aura as he swung it toward Chen Anlin's face.
This violent strike shattered everything in its path.
Just when everyone thought Chen Anlin was doomed, he casually deflected the seemingly ferocious blade energy, dispersing it effortlessly.
Whoosh!
A sword aura cleaved through the bushy-bearded man's head.
No one saw how Chen Anlin did it. In an instant, the remaining two lackeys and Tang Liuyi stood frozen in place, eyes wide with terror.
In the blink of an eye, their leader was dead?
Where did this expert come from?
The key point was that the opponent didn’t even blink. Why were they just standing there?
"I pay my respects to you, Young Master. I am Tang Liuyi and willing to serve you," Tang Liuyi quickly knelt on the ground and bowed his head.
Chen Anlin stared at him, thinking that this Tang Liuyi might be a minor fortune’s favored child. If he hadn’t come to interrupt, all the treasures in this cave would have been his.
"What’s going on with this tomb?" Chen Anlin asked.
Tang Liu hurriedly said, "Young Master, we found this place based on an ancient treasure map. It is said that there is a celestial being inside who has attained enlightenment here. Whoever can open this ancient tomb will inherit the celestial being's legacy."
Upon hearing about the possibility of becoming an immortal, the other two tomb raiders showed expressions of longing. Only Tang Liu remained composed, for in his heart, such aspirations felt distant. His only hope was to complete the task for the Young Master and survive.
"A celestial being inside??"
Chen Anlin couldn't help but smile. "What are you waiting for? Let's go in! I'm a reasonable person; as long as you listen, there will be great rewards."
Tang Liu quickly clasped his hands together. "Young Master, please, take your time."
As the three men entered one after another and confirmed there was no danger, Chen Anlin followed them inside.
The interior of the tomb consisted of winding narrow tunnels. After walking for a short while, they reached the end—a stone chamber with a stone coffin quietly standing there.
"Young Master, shall we pry it open?" one of the younger men suggested.
"Yes, let's do it." Chen Anlin stepped back a little.
The three men, including Tang Liu, understood that danger might lie ahead, but they had no choice. They picked up iron rods and began to pry open the stone coffin. Soon enough, it was opened.
Unlike scenes from movies where toxic gas would emerge, nothing of the sort happened. Instead, the three stood frozen in place at what they saw inside the coffin.
"What are you looking at??"
Chen Anlin walked over and was instantly stunned as well.
Inside lay a female corpse adorned in semi-transparent garments—exquisite and breathtaking!
An unknown female corpse!
Moreover, from her skin's appearance, it seemed flawless and unyielding; she showed no signs of rigidity.
"Young Master, she's still warm! She's actually still warm!"
One of the shorter men exclaimed excitedly as he poked the corpse's arm.
A bold idea began to form in his mind.
"We can take advantage of this warmth."
