When everyone rushed to the hospital in a panic, Song Yong was already gasping for breath, hanging by a thread.
The doctor walked out of the emergency room with a face full of helplessness and disappointment. He slowly shook his head at Zhao Pengfei and Chang Annchun, saying, "Your friend has been bitten by an extremely rare venomous mosquito. The poison has spread throughout his body, and we are truly powerless to help him..."
Zhao Pengfei and Chang Annchun hurried into the emergency room, desperate for one last look at Song Yong, but the sight before them left them horrified; they could barely recognize him.
In just over half an hour, Song Yong's body had swollen grotesquely, covered in terrifying red spots.
With a faint whisper, Song Yong said, "I told you we shouldn't have entered Jacques' Tomb. His curse is everywhere..."
Tears streamed down Zhao Pengfei's face as he collapsed onto Song Yong, crying out in despair, "No! This can't be happening..."
Chang Annchun lowered his head in sorrow, but suddenly he noticed that Song Yong's previously vacant gaze had transformed into one of sheer terror.
"Quick... quick... quick..." With all his strength, Song Yong pushed Zhao Pengfei away. He pointed at the ceiling and shouted hoarsely, "He's coming! He's coming! He's here to get me! You must... run!"
Song Yong suddenly sat up in bed, his eyes bulging, mouth wide open, arms stretched straight out in front of him as if he were desperately resisting some invisible force of terror.
In that moment, Song Yong left this world in an extraordinarily eerie and chilling manner.
Chang Annchun felt that Song Yong's death was not like an ordinary passing; it seemed more like... he had been scared to death.
But who had scared him to death? As Chang Annchun looked at Zhao Pengfei standing frozen beside the bed, a sense of ominous premonition surged within him. The shadow of death was quietly creeping closer to him like a ghost.
Before the mysterious and terrifying curse of Jacques, it seemed that no one could escape its grasp.
Song Yong had already become the first victim, and it was likely that Zhao Pengfei would be next.
"I am not afraid of death," Zhao Pengfei suddenly turned around, his gaze resolute as he spoke to Chang Annchun. "I have never believed in any curse, never!"
"But it exists..." Chang Annchun said as he gently covered Song Yong's body with a white sheet.
"So what if it exists? Do the living fear the dead? My life belongs only to me; no one can take it away easily!" Zhao Pengfei defiantly raised his head, his eyes revealing a commendable determination and fearlessness.
"Indeed, if you have the courage to enter Jacques' Tomb, you must have tenfold the courage to resist his curse."
Chang Annchun increasingly admired this young man before him, whose boldness was truly worthy of respect.
With heavy hearts, the two deeply bowed to Song Yong's remains before slowly leaving the hospital with tears in their eyes.
"I believe I will not die, but... if I should unfortunately meet my end, please promise me this."
Zhao Pengfei stood at the hospital entrance, a hint of hesitation on his face as he spoke.
"What is it?" Chang Annchun asked.
"You must find a way to make Jacques' Curse disappear from this world," Zhao Pengfei said through clenched teeth, his resolve unwavering.
"Don't worry, I will find a way," Chang Annchun said with a smile as he gently patted Zhao Pengfei's shoulder. He then turned and walked away, leaving Zhao Pengfei standing alone, gazing at Chang Annchun's receding figure. A complex expression flickered in his eyes, a mix of concern for the unknown fate ahead and a steadfast belief in breaking the curse.
