In another area, Block 01, a sudden downpour had cleared away many enemy troops from the ground forces. The Longxing Mercenary Corps had essentially been wiped out, and the remaining Internal Human low-altitude Flying Army found themselves unable to leverage their agility due to the guerrilla tactics employed by the Earth Soldiers. Their left and right ambushes had led to a stalemate with the Earth Defense Force in the central battlefield.
In the heart of the battle, humanity's main forces were still represented by Xu Yicheng and Titan Aibo from the Spirit Corps Legion and the Divine Domain Support Team. They moved through the city, clearing enemies coming from various directions. Ever since Jiao An's Satellite strike had successfully eliminated the heavy mechanized units of the Internal Humans, they had been advancing relentlessly, forcing the Internal troops to retreat wherever they went.
“Hey, what should I call you?” Xu Yicheng asked from within his Antimatter Armor, firing a laser cannon that obliterated an approaching Internal troop.
“Just call me George,” Spirit Corps George replied as he knocked another Internal troop to the ground with a punch. “I thought we’d be fighting Ban Sa, but it turns out we’re just cleaning up these minions. Sigh, it’s tough being cannon fodder.”
“Well, at least it’s for the good of Earth,” Xu Yicheng chuckled, then pointed towards the ruins ahead. “That’s Song Family Courtyard. Cover me while I check for survivors.”
“Got it.” George gave him a thumbs-up. “Everyone, clear a path for our armored doctor! Don’t let any pursuers follow him!”
“Understood!”
The Spirit Corps and Divine Domain Support Team immediately formed a cone formation. Those capable of jumping took to the air to intercept any Flying Army units passing overhead, bringing them crashing down; those who could attack from a distance unleashed spells to suppress fire on the Internal troops hiding behind cover. Titan Aibo stood at the front of this formation, using its incredibly tough body to shield against incoming laser bullets, resembling tanks leading soldiers in battle.
“Keep up the fire and draw their attention,” Xu Yicheng instructed before soaring upwards into the clouds. He aimed to distance himself from the battlefield to avoid drawing enemy notice.
His tactic proved successful; he ascended nearly 800 meters before beginning his descent towards the ruins of Song Family Courtyard. He landed quietly within its confines, having successfully circled around while outside, the Internal troops were preoccupied with firefights against the Spirit Corps and Divine Domain Support Team, completely unaware that someone had snuck behind them.
However, Xu Yicheng’s purpose was not merely to flank them but to assess the casualties at Song Family Courtyard. If he could rescue some trapped individuals, it would be worth any risk of discovery. His intent was one of rescue rather than combat.
Inside the ruins of Song Family Courtyard lay several lifeless servants who had not managed to react in time during the bombardment. The safety of Mr. Song and Mingjuan's Grandpa remained unknown. As Xu Yicheng flew low over the wreckage searching for them, he found it strange that there were no signs of life or death amidst the ruins. Suddenly remembering something, he returned to ground level and spotted a drone still hovering in midair—this was the key to accessing the Antimatter Energy Storage Center. If he guessed correctly, everyone should be hiding inside that cloaked storage center.
As soon as Xu Yicheng activated the drone, ripples appeared in front of him as a large door opened. Just as he suspected, Mr. Song and others were indeed inside the Antimatter Energy Storage Center. Xiao Zhongda peered through a peephole and immediately let him in.
“Wow! Your Antimatter Armor looks amazing! You must have taken down quite a few enemies out there,” Xiao Zhongda praised as he closed the door behind them, causing their surroundings to vanish back into invisibility.
“It works really well,” Xu Yicheng replied. “Have you all been here this whole time?”
“Yes,” Xiao Zhongda said. “When Ming Juan and Ma Yihan left earlier, we noticed threats approaching from afar and quickly moved everyone we could here to escape the bombardment. Unfortunately, some servants couldn’t be saved.”
Xu Yicheng landed back on solid ground as the door closed behind him. Inside felt eerily quiet compared to the chaos outside—a stark contrast that made it seem like an oasis amidst war. Xiao Zhongda led Xu Yicheng deeper inside until they reached a door where he knocked with his wings.
“Come in.”
Mr. Song's voice came from within as Xu Yicheng followed Xiao Zhongda through the door. Mr. Song had bandages wrapped around his left cheek stained with blood—likely applied shortly after being injured. In front of him stood a wooden table adorned with intricate carvings, upon which lay a yellowed piece of paper and an old book opened wide; candles stood at each corner of the table.
Xu Yicheng was unsure what Mr. Song was doing but sensed that it was worlds apart from the battlefield outside; it felt like they were isolated from reality itself. Just moments ago he had been on that battlefield controlling his Antimatter Armor against foes; now he stood quietly in this serene room watching Mr. Song deep in thought—he found it hard to adjust to such a stark contrast.
“Yicheng,” Mr. Song opened his eyes and addressed him, “as you can see, we are all safe here. I wish you could return to your Celestial Warriors and continue fighting bravely, but before you leave this place to stabilize things on the ground, there’s something I must tell you.”
“Please go ahead.”
"Just now, I consulted the Divine Book to predict the future, and I saw that this war will not lead to the extinction of humanity, but one person in the Alliance of Supreme Guardians will die in battle."
"What? Who... who will it be?"
"I don't know who it will be, so I can only warn you that this is the result of my prediction."
Xu Yicheng fell silent. If someone must sacrifice themselves—though the Celestial Warriors had all considered this issue—he hoped it would be himself. However, given the current situation on the battlefield, he felt that his chances of being that sacrifice were slim.
Who could it be?
At the same Time
"Break through, break through!"
Wu Xiaolong led the Spark Special Forces as they maneuvered between cover on the streets, getting closer to the front line of the internal Human forces, almost within melee range. The Spark Special Forces were essentially the vanguard of the entire alliance, with Titan Aibo, Spirit Corps, and Divine Domain Support Team drawing fire to buy precious Time for them as they headed towards the northeastern cross-river bridge to secure a position and block reinforcements from other districts.
However, they were now very close to the internal Human front line, and their movements had been exposed. The Internal Troops had split into two groups, blocking Wu Xiaolong's path forward. He kept shouting "Break through," but success eluded them.
Dense beams of laser bullets came flying at him, barely grazing his helmet. Wu Xiaolong was forced to retreat behind a car on the street, while a comrade beside him was already hit and fell to the ground. "This is Spark Special Forces, requesting air support! Coordinates uploaded, awaiting assistance!"
This was their last resort; if they didn't reach the bridge in time, reinforcements from other districts would converge at the center of the battlefield. Although the Longxing Mercenaries had been completely wiped out, the number of Internal Troops was still formidable.
"AC919 has received your request and is en route for support."
The electronic message sounded so clear in Wu Xiaolong's earpiece! "Captain, we have an air gunship!" shouted a comrade beside him, wiping his dirt-covered face. "Look up! Look up!"
In the sky, the massive body of the "Judgment Day" battleship was enduring suicide attacks from Ocpie, with waves of electromagnetic pulses rippling through the air. The air gunship AC919 quickly replaced his view as its roar grew louder, prompting cheers from Wu Xiaolong: "Well done, Air Force! Blow them away!"
The 105mm cannon extended from the aircraft's body as it aimed at the gathering lines of Internal Troops. A shell fell and instantly blew open a gap in their defenses. The Internal Troops noticed the air gunship coming to support the Earth Soldier, but they had no means to counter it. The crowd began to panic and hurriedly retreated towards nearby buildings; otherwise, they would become targets for humanity's air gunship.
Like an eagle patrolling from above, ready to swoop down for a hunt! The air gunship circled over the front lines, creating an unprecedented sense of pressure among the Internal Troops. The powerful high-altitude firepower of AC919 tilted the situation dramatically in favor of humanity; morale surged as the Internal Troops lost their will to fight and scrambled for cover.
"Charge!" roared Wu Xiaolong, as if issuing a command; with him leading, the Spark Special Forces surged through the gap created by the air gunship's bombardment towards the bridge ahead. Meanwhile, Titan Aibo led his team from Divine Realm straight into enemy territory! Seeing that the Internal Troops were in disarray, AC919 switched to its 25mm machine guns and mercilessly swept across the ground; wherever it fired, cries filled the air. Some targeted and hit internal Humans didn't even have time to scream before being turned into pools of deep blue blood by its massive bullets.
From above, humanity launched its final charge against the Internal Troops. With support from the air gunship, their morale soared!
However, just when humanity thought victory was assured, a green light shot up from afar towards AC919 circling above!
"Unidentified object detected approaching!"
"Deploy flares immediately! Hurry!"
But what was coming toward the air gunship couldn't be dealt with by flares— Godslayer Bansa could no longer tolerate this situation; with a strike from his "Tear Star" war axe, he effortlessly cleaved AC919's wide wings in two!
