The young director was accomplished, and rumors surrounding him had never ceased.
It was said that Jian Youming had only been close to a senior during his freshman year of college, but that relationship ultimately came to nothing. Up until now, he had never been involved in any scandalous affairs.
Jian Youming leisurely traced a finger across Wang Xue's face before breaking into a broad smile. "Look at her," he said, "so plain and unremarkable, with no resemblance to me at all. How could she possibly be my sister?"
Wang Xue suppressed her displeasure and asked, "Jian Youming, what are you doing here?"
He appeared to be in high spirits, a faint dimple appearing as he spoke. "You've exhausted your limited wisdom to come all the way to Shanghai, going through so much trouble just to work for my company. Naturally, I have to express my gratitude."
Wang Xue chose to ignore the biting tone of his first statement, her face reflecting shock as she stammered, "This... this company is yours?"
If she remembered correctly, she had applied here precisely because of the company's rapid rise.
The painful memories of being beaten by him in Wutong City had haunted her for twenty-two years. Now, after all her struggles to find work in a different city, she still had to face him?!
Jian Youming quickly confirmed with a simple "Yes," but then his expression darkened slightly as he frowned. When he spoke again, the dimple was gone. "Are you saying... after all this time apart, you never cared that I attended Fudan University and worked here?"
Wang Xue looked at him with tears in her eyes. "Your university is so impressive..."
His once bright expression gradually turned somber. He clenched his jaw, hesitating to speak further. Ignoring the fact that Wang Xue hadn't finished filling out her form, he grabbed her luggage and turned to leave, leaving her staring at his retreating figure with a soft sigh.
Wang Xue turned dazedly toward the two stunned recruiters and cautiously asked, "Where is he taking my luggage... He wouldn't just throw it away, would he?"
One senior's gaze remained fixed on the receding figure of Jian Youming, while another senior finally snapped back to reality and said, "Ah... Director, um... he probably took it to your dormitory..."
By the time Wang Xue finished filling out the forms and arrived at her dormitory, an hour had already passed.
As expected of a large company, even the lowest-ranking employees like her had a small single room to themselves.
The room was sparsely furnished but kept extremely tidy, featuring only a bed with crisp white sheets, a set of desk and chairs, and a man sitting on the bed sulking.
Wang Xue glanced at the mess he had made of her belongings and frowned slightly as she asked him softly, "Why did you make my things so disorganized?"
Jian Youming was clearly displeased. "Where's the bear?"
He was like a character from a romance novel beloved by young girls, deeply devoted and unwaveringly in love with Wang Xue for nearly ten years.
Unfortunately, Wang Xue didn’t reciprocate his feelings. He had no choice but to go study in another city, sending gifts home each year to remind her not to forget him.
"Huh?"
His frustration grew. "What happened to the bear I gave you? Why didn’t you bring any of the bears I send you every birthday? Not even one!"
Wang Xue stared blankly for a moment. She could tell from Jian Youming's expression that if she revealed the truth—that she had no idea who sent those expensive-looking bears from Shanghai without any signature—he would surely explode in anger.
Wang Xue looked at Jian Youming and carefully chose her words. "Um... since they were gifts from you... I thought that if I took them out and they got dirty, it wouldn't be good."
Jian Youming's expression finally softened a bit. "You still have some conscience," he said.
He lightly tapped his fingers on the table. "You need to get along well with your colleagues in the department, understand? Don't cause me any trouble." His tone was entirely that of an adult lecturing a child.
Wang Xue lowered her head. "Understood."
"Today, a new manager will join your department. He has been hired at a high salary from another company and is exceptionally capable. You need to follow him and learn humbly, do you understand?"
"Understood..."
"And... there was something else I wanted to mention, but I can't recall it at the moment. We'll discuss it in detail another day."
Just then, Jian Youming's phone rang abruptly. He glanced at the caller ID, his brow furrowing slightly. Then, as if shooing away a small dog, he waved his hand to dismiss Wang Xue and began to answer the call, his mouth spouting professional jargon that Wang Xue could not comprehend at all.
