"Why has our county been so unsettled lately? It seems like everyone is busy every day..." The County Magistrate Zhao stretched his neck, wishing he could go to the county hall to take a look.
"Father, you’ve been in Jinyang for quite some time now. How unsettled can Jinyang County really be? Don't worry about the county affairs; just focus on getting better!"
Zhao Xinqing said as she handed the medicine bowl to Xing'er. " Xing'er, you stay here and take good care of my father. I’m going out to see if someone has lost a cow again and if I can help brother Qixu with anything!"
"He's so capable; does he really need your help with investigations?" The County Magistrate Zhao chuckled, waving his hand with an even broader smile. "If you want to see Qi Xu, just say so. I understand that a grown woman shouldn’t be kept at home!"
Hearing this, Zhao Xinqing felt both shy and angry. She scrunched her nose and made a face. "Yes, yes, if you don’t want me to stay here any longer, then hurry up and get better. So I can get married sooner!" With that, she lifted her skirt and flitted out the door like a flower butterfly.
Just as she reached the entrance of the hall, she collided head-on with King Anle and Shui Lingyun.
"Wow! Were you doing that on purpose? With such force, I might have broken a rib! Help me rub it!" Shui Lingyun pouted, pretending to be pitiful, but Zhao Xinqing pushed him away. "Dream on! Be careful that Qi Xu sees you and throws you out of the county hall!"
"If he dares to disrespect me, I’ll immediately accuse him of treason! Then I’ll have him exiled and drag you straight to my King Anle residence to be my princess, humph..."
Zhao Xinqing feigned terror. "Thank goodness! When I saw how you were framing me just now, I thought you wanted to accuse me of treason too and drag Qi Xu to your King Anle residence to be your princess!"
"You..." Shui Lingyun was so furious that smoke seemed to be coming out of his nose. "Why do you always twist my good intentions?"
"Because you look like someone who enjoys being pampered by men!" Zhao Xinqing teased, pinching his cheek. Honestly, it was quite rare for such a high-ranking prince to let himself be bullied without getting angry.
The two laughed and hurried toward the hall, only to see Qin Qixu instructing Constable Fang to prepare some men, looking as if he was about to head out.
Shui Lingyun leaned in with curiosity and asked, "What? Has there been another murder?"
Constable Fang whispered to Qin Qixu, "Qin, why does this prince seem to hope for trouble in our county all day long? Isn’t he just stirring up chaos?"
Shui Lingyun narrowed his beautiful phoenix eyes into a line and slapped Constable Fang on the back of the head. "You little brat, do you think I'm deaf? Are you tired of being a constable? Speak up, what happened?"
"A servant came to report that his master died mysteriously last night at Qi Xiang tower."
"Mysteriously died? How could one die in such a place? If not from drunkenness, then from beauty! I think we should just send a coroner to take a look; it's most likely Fatal Penile Fracture!" As Shui Lingyun spoke, he proudly adjusted his hair and tilted his chin toward Zhao Xinqing. "What do you think? My deductive skills are far better than your brother Qixu, right?"
As soon as he finished speaking, Qin Qixu's expression darkened.
Zhao Xinqing then asked, " Fatal Penile Fracture? What is Fatal Penile Fracture? I've only heard of being startled or having a stroke; how come there's now a Fatal Penile Fracture?"
" Qing'er, don’t listen to his nonsense..." Qin Qixu, worried that Shui Lingyun would lead Zhao Xinqing astray, pulled her away.
However, Shui Lingyun stepped in front of them and deliberately whispered something in Zhao Xinqing's ear right in front of Qin Qixu. Instantly, Zhao Xinqing's face turned from pale to red, resembling a boiled shrimp. A hint of embarrassment and anger flickered in her eyes.
Qin Qixu glared at Shui Lingyun with fury burning in his gaze. Yet Shui Lingyun raised an eyebrow smugly, a teasing smile playing on his lips as he said, " Qing'er, see? I care for you the most; I'm willing to tell you everything..."
"Vulgar!" Zhao Xinqing shouted angrily and slapped him across the face. The crisp sound echoed in the air. Without looking back, she grabbed Qin Qixu's hand and hurried away, as if fleeing from this awkward situation.
When Qin Qixu caught sight of Liu Yun, he was momentarily stunned. His body stiffened slightly, and a complex emotion flickered in his eyes.
“ Inspector Qin, it’s been a long time!” Liu Yun greeted with a captivating elegance, her graceful figure drawing attention. However, behind her, Zhao Xinqing furrowed her brow, her lips pressed together slightly.
From her perspective, Liu Yun was indeed beautiful.
She had seen many beauties before; in Jinyang, Ruan Yuxiang, the proprietor of Xiangyun Tower, was the epitome of stunning. When she encountered Shui Lingyun at Yun Xiu class, his cross-dressing appearance was undeniably enchanting. And then there was Rong Xiaoxiao from Fragrant and Beautiful; they all qualified as exceptional beauties.
Yet Liu Yun was different. Her features were not particularly striking.
However, it was her figure, the allure in her every movement, and those fox-like eyes that sparkled with an unusual charm that likely held a fatal attraction for men.
