"Well, I won't mention you; it just makes the labor a bit less burdensome. Life is more important."
Qi Xiaomian returned to the main topic. "The oil you just mentioned, what kind is it?"
"Any kind will do, but edible oil works best. It's effective, quick, cleans well, and is safe."
"What else is special about the dye?"
"The secret formula for the dye is only held by the most legitimate royal bloodline, that of the Great Yu Emperor. Other clans must go through an application process if they need it and establish detailed records, just in case there's any mixed blood."
"The tattoos," Qi Xiaomian noted, "are very similar in color and texture to birthmarks. If you don't look closely, it's hard to tell them apart."
"So what you're saying," Qi Xiaomian summarized, "is that the dye is strictly controlled and ordinary people can't access it. If someone manages to get it, they must have a close connection to the royal family?"
"The Dayu Royal Family has very strict regulations," the Marquis replied. "Non-royal bloodlines cannot obtain it. If it comes out that an ordinary person used the dye and got a large tattoo, there could be a thorough purge within the royal family."
"A purge? Is it because of bloodline issues? That sounds serious."
Moreover, Xing Wu continued analyzing, "From the corpse's tattoo, I've come to another conclusion: that tattoo has been there since childhood and has been touched up multiple times over the years."
Qi Xiaomian pondered for a moment, connecting Xing Wu's clues with the entire case and gradually arriving at a likely answer.
He looked at Xing Wu. "When you first came in, you mentioned that the deceased's identity was questionable. You must have some suspicions in your mind."
Xing Wu made a strange expression. "Marquis, I'm not sure. The Great Yu Emperor doesn't seem like someone who would be confused; perhaps I’m thinking too much. After all, I've seen too many shady dealings in this line of work and often end up misjudging things."
Qi Xiaomian tapped his fingers on the table to interrupt him. "Speak your mind; I will discern for myself."
Xing Wu hesitated before saying, "I suspect that corpse is Da Yu's Fifth Prince. But this Fifth Prince isn't of royal blood; he was tattooed at birth to confuse people."
Following this line of thought, questions about the source of the dye and the whereabouts of the Fifth Prince began to make sense.
"But how could such a scandal happen right under the Great Yu Emperor's nose?" Xing Wu pondered helplessly as he looked at Qi Xiaomian, hoping he could provide a more reasonable answer. However, after confirming that Xing Wu had no other leads, Qi Xiaomian waved him off and instructed him to forget everything said today.
With a heart full of doubts, Xing Wu reluctantly left.
"Qilang," Qi Xiaomian commanded, "bring me all the information on everyone in Dayu Palace!"
The royal families from various nations were all interconnected; there was certainly no shortage of information. Qi Xiaomian spent an entire night and day sifting through documents before finally stretching his limbs and stepping out of The Office of Censors as night fell.
Just as he was thinking about relaxing at Small Tavern, he unexpectedly saw Huayang Princess there as well. She was busy teaching Sang Qingxiao how to cook.
The carefree demeanor was hardly reminiscent of someone who had lost a brother or was searching for him.
"Are you done with the case?" he asked casually. "Don't forget, you are the one in charge now."
In the midst of his busyness, why was the Yongxin Marquis acting so serious? The Huayang Princess chided him lightly and even complained to Sang Qingxiao. Just when they had finally found some joy, he had to ruin it. "Does Riri manage you like this too?"
"That sounds uncomfortable," Sang Qingxiao replied. "He's not managing you; he's just handling Cai's affairs. You've already played around all afternoon; it's time to get back to business."
