Qi Xiaomian took a step closer to Sang Qingxiao and smiled, "Oh, so you are a couple! What a match made in heaven! After your long journey, would you like me to bring some food up for you?"
"Bring up the best wine and dishes," Qi Xiaomian added enthusiastically.
After leading them upstairs and ensuring that all the food and drinks were served, Qi Xiaomian closed the door and pointed to the right, whispering, "He lives next door."
"That room is not cheap," Sang Qingxiao remarked.
"My people wanted to investigate further, but I stopped them. The power dynamics are uneven; if we get discovered, it could lead to dire consequences."
"You did the right thing," Sang Qingxiao replied.
Qi Xiaomian set the table with bowls and chopsticks. "It's still early; would you like to eat something?"
Sang Qingxiao frowned. "We didn't come here to eat and drink. Shouldn't we go find him now?"
If it were up to her, staying at an inn would be unnecessary.
"There's no need for us to intervene; I have my own plans. Just wait."
About two incense sticks' worth of time later, they faintly heard a commotion from downstairs. A loud shout from He Dong Lion echoed through the air, and it was a woman's voice.
The shopkeeper seemed unable to stop her as she burst through the crowd and rushed up the stairs, her footsteps heavy.
The matriarch of the wealthy Huo Family in Guo County was known for her boldness. Her husband was merely a figurehead, while she brazenly misbehaved in public, with her husband secretly following her example. They often staged scenes where a woman caught a man in compromising situations.
"Often?" Sang Qingxiao questioned, puzzled. "Even after all this, they are still together?"
The connection between them was complex and not easily understood by outsiders, especially those like them. She merely intended to use this situation to inform the Huo Family matriarch that her husband was secretly meeting with a young woman next door.
They were about to knock on the door; once they brought the person out, they could finally see who it was.
"What if we anger that person? What will happen to the matriarch's safety?"
She had many skilled individuals around her and was known for her fiery temper. Even if the person she was looking for wasn't inside, an unpleasant attitude could provoke her, making it difficult for this scene to resolve quickly.
Moreover, since this matter was inherently secretive, it couldn't be handled too openly without jeopardizing future actions.
Sure enough, there was a loud banging on the neighboring door. The woman's foul language echoed loudly enough to shock everyone in the inn, drawing them out to see what was happening. Sang Qingxiao and Qi Xiaomian also stepped outside.
Sang Qingxiao watched the matriarch with interest. "Oh, what I heard before seems accurate; she must weigh over a hundred pounds! Yet her face isn't fierce at all; her lips are plump and pouting as she breathlessly curses while still retaining a hint of charm—she's quite an attractive plump woman."
Finally, after persistent knocking from outside, someone opened the door. Before any words could be exchanged, just the sight of that broad figure and commanding presence made the previously bold matriarch inexplicably feel a twinge of fear.
But with so many people watching, she couldn't let her tough persona crumble!
Another roar of "He Dong Lion!" echoed. "Show me my face! This time it's quite the game, isn't it? A man and a woman in a scandalous affair, and you find a strong man standing by—aren't you all embarrassed?"
The man stepped forward and shoved the woman, retreating to close the door. However, the woman was quick; before the door could shut completely, she squeezed half of her body inside.
