After the memorial, disregarding his mother's objections, Mingze quickly took her away.
Qi Xiaomian brought quite a few people with him. Mingze had a gut feeling that something would happen to the Zhao Family today, so he left an inconspicuous servant behind at the Zhao Family to wait for news.
He had just returned home and taken a sip of tea when the servant rushed into the study without following the proper etiquette. "Master Xiang, gold, gold!"
Mingze stood up, confused. "What gold?"
"It's all gold! The walls, the ground, even the water is gold!" The servant couldn't help but swallow hard as he spoke. "Master Xiang, the Zhao Family is like a golden nest! Goodness, I've never seen a house made of gold, with golden floors and golden ponds before!"
Mingze swayed slightly but quickly steadied himself, murmuring to himself, "Is there really that much? The Zhao Family has such audacity?"
"Master Xiang, I saw it with my own eyes! Not only did I see it, but even those who haven't entered Zhao Manor saw it too. The Yongxin Marquis directly peeled off the wall of that three-story building; it was so dazzling that I could hardly open my eyes. When I came back to report, there were crowds outside the Zhao Family all looking at that building."
The servant felt uneasy about the situation at Zhao Family and was scared to speak out of turn. However, as a household servant, if something happened to the family, he wouldn't be safe either. He mustered up his courage to ask, "Master Xiang, this matter with the Zhao Family won't affect us, will it?"
"Notify the Steward! No one from the Ming Family is to go out unless absolutely necessary! Keep your mouths shut!"
After saying this, Mingze hurried towards Old Madam's quarters. Even from a distance, he could hear her wailing and cursing.
The target of her curses was none other than his new wife.
Upon entering the room, he saw his wife kneeling and serving his mother.
Mingze's anger flared even more. "Get up."
"What? Is Old Madam unhappy? Isn't it right for a daughter-in-law to serve her mother-in-law?"
"You don't have to torment your daughter-in-law like this."
Mingze walked over and helped Zhu Zhu up while instructing others to leave.
Old Madam couldn't stand seeing Mingze forget about his mother now that he had a wife. "Oh, so you're protective now? I heard your people are still looking for Sang Yu Ning. If they really find her, which woman will you protect?"
"My matters are none of your concern."
Old Madam laughed in anger. "Was there ever a time in your childhood that I didn't worry about you? You've grown up and spread your wings; now you're going against me for a woman! If Sang Yu Ning were still by your side, do you think you could sit in your current position? You got all the benefits while I shielded you from outside gossip, yet in return, you give me attitude every day."
"Ah Ze, your mother truly gave everything for you. Now that you're already a father of two children, how can you not understand your mother's intentions?"
Such conversations happened every few days; initially touching upon hearing them but now he no longer cared.
"Did the Zhao Family send you gold?"
The sudden shift in topic left Old Madam momentarily stunned. You had harbored resentment towards the Zhao Family for their advice to the Sang Family, and it had been a long time since you last contacted them. Why were you suddenly concerned about them now?
"The Zhao Family has already been imprisoned."
"What did you say!"
"If you don't want the Ming Family to face the same fate, you'd better answer my question honestly."
Old Madam lunged at Mingze, gripping his shoulders tightly, shaking him with force as she demanded, "What on earth happened to the Zhao Family? You may look down on them, but in this dire situation, considering my connection to you, you should at least put in some effort."
"Just answer my question first. Did the Zhao Family give you gold or not?"
"Yes," Old Madam replied hesitantly.
