In the evening, after the Small Tavern closed its doors, everyone gathered in the backyard for a barbecue, except for Li Cu. She had something to take care of and would return later, Old Vine explained to Sang Qingxiao.
"What about you? Why are you so free? I always see you at home. I'm busy; you should pitch in," Sang Qingxiao urged.
"I'm working on it," Old Vine replied proudly. "Someone is helping me out."
Sang Qingxiao connected the dots from his two responses and guessed, "You mean that someone is Li Cu, right?"
"Yes! She always complains about being bored and sees me going out all the time, so she asked what I was up to. I told her everything, and that girl said she wanted to help me with it."
"Ha! If she's running errands for you, then you won't get half of the gold."
Old Vine shook his leg with satisfaction and said, "Oh, it's fine. That girl promised me half of the gold just to let her take over the task."
"You’re just taking advantage of her because she’s naive and has money."
"She’s not naive; she just has money!" Old Vine corrected. "A few months ago, she was with Benz in Vast Frontier and Wild Leopard. Now she's stuck in this small place; don’t you think she deserves to spend some money for fun?"
While they were chatting, a Black Kitten jumped down from the roof and ran toward the corner where the vegetable washing basin was. Without caring whether the water was dirty or not, it jumped right in and started splashing around.
"What’s going on?" Cheeks puffed up. "Who are you mad at?"
"Sang Qingxiao! That little brat actually touched me!" Li Cu complained with an unhappy expression.
Old Vine spat out a mouthful of water, Misha paused her actions, while Sang Qingxiao remained more rational. Perhaps he was just petting a cat?
"Sang Qingxiao, which side are you on?!"
"Uh, Zhou Yunjin must have touched you too, right?" Sang Qingxiao cautiously asked again.
"Zhou Yunjin only patted my head! That little brat dared to pick me up with both hands—ugh, how disgusting! It's one thing for a woman to pet a cat; but for a big man to do that? He's simply a pervert!"
"Actually, there are just as many men who love cats as there are women," Sang Qingxiao had to listen to her curses while comforting her and managed to pry out some gossip.
"Li Cu, you're usually so alert; how did you let him get away with it?" Sang Qingxiao struggled to find the right words and continued awkwardly, "How did he manage to pull that off?"
This earned Sang Qingxiao a big eye roll from Li Cu.
"I was startled by him and didn’t react in time! Back in my Military days, if anyone got too close to me, I could tear off their leg!"
Sang Qingxiao was taken aback. "You didn’t actually tear off Chi Chen'an's leg, did you?"
"No! I held back for you!"
Li Cu jumped out of the pool, deliberately splashing her wet body against Sang Qingxiao, venting her emotions. She pouted playfully, "It's all your fault, all your fault! You've spoiled me and made me lazy, and now my guard is down. I ended up suffering such a big loss outside. It's all my fault, my fault."
In truth, I had paid a hefty price as well.
A male voice came from the other side of the wall, and soon a head appeared, looking as if it had been scratched up badly.
"Tsk tsk, that was quite harsh," he remarked.
The other party then quietly complained again, "And there's more on me." I really thought she was just an ordinary cat, but the moment she spoke, I was taken aback.
Well, it's hard to judge who's right or wrong here.
"Chi Chen'an, right? Want to come in and sit for a while?"
