Li Cu wore a displeased expression. "Why do you want to turn me into a Black Cat?"
Sang Qingxiao gently stroked her back, trying to soothe her. "You've gained quite a reputation lately; it's better to disguise yourself."
As if you and Misha aren't well-known too.
"Misha and I have a fearsome reputation. People see us and dare not approach. But you, you're the great hero in everyone's eyes in the Great Jing Dynasty. The moment you show up, they all want to swarm around you. How are we supposed to walk around like that?"
Li Cu felt embarrassed upon hearing this, feeling awkward. "It's all for you! You made up such an outrageous story about my past. Just hearing a bit of it made my face flush and my head spin. Was that story really about me?!"
Sang Qingxiao shrugged off the blame. "It was Qilang's doing. When he comes back, you should confront him."
"Absolutely! I’m invincible in the Military!"
Old Vine led them to a secluded area where they suddenly heard a group of people shouting insults. Among the curses, the Sang Family was mentioned.
A few of them peeked into the alley and saw a group of people beating someone up.
Old Vine's voice came through, revealing that the one being beaten was Chi Chen'an.
Seeing Sang Qingxiao's lack of reaction and his decision not to intervene, Old Vine continued, "He often gets bullied like this, never fighting back or retaliating with words. He usually walks around covered in injuries, so people mock him for being weak."
"If he can't fight back, surely he can report it? But he never tells Chi Yan about this, which only encourages others to bully him more."
The relationship between those two was strange; from a distance, they acted as if they didn't see each other. Up close, when the son called out to his father, the father would nod in acknowledgment, and that would be the end of their conversation—more distant than strangers.
Of course, there was an upside to this; his mother had some skills, but seeing him like this made her disdainful enough not to bother with him.
After saying this, Old Vine added playfully, "You're right not to stop it; Chi Chen'an willingly lets himself get hurt."
The group continued beating him for a while before finally stopping with satisfaction. One of them spat on the ground and sneered, "Coward!"
Once they left, Chi Chen'an quietly stood up, wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth as if nothing had happened, and walked lightly toward an even more secluded area.
Sang Qingxiao observed him closely. "Didn’t they say he’s all talk and no action? He seems to have some martial skills after all."
"Just wait and see; he’ll surprise you."
Chi Chen'an stopped in front of a dilapidated courtyard and knocked rhythmically on the door. It opened just a crack, and he slipped inside through the narrow opening.
Sang Qingxiao and the others used runes to obscure their appearances and mimicked Chi Chen'an's actions by knocking a few times as well. Although the door opened for them, it was blocked immediately. Sang Qingxiao tossed a gold ingot; seeing the money, they were still allowed inside.
The scenery inside the courtyard matched its exterior—both were in a state of disrepair.
Upon opening the mechanism of Cave Rock, an Underground Passage appeared. The further they descended, the louder the sounds from below became. This was a Dungeon, and Old Vine communicated with Sang Qingxiao.
Was there truly such a hidden realm within Jingjing City? Sang Qingxiao had heard rumors about various Dungeons; more accurately, it should be considered an extralegal territory. If some notorious criminals were hiding here, it would be difficult for the court to pursue them.
Of course, gaining the protection of a Dungeon came at a tremendous cost, one that ordinary people could hardly afford.
