As dawn broke, Qin Mu Hui left Qi Xiaomian behind. The two had just taken their seats when Qin Mu Hui tossed a booklet to Qi Xiaomian. Without even needing to flip through it, Qi Xiaomian already knew what it was—was His Majesty really that idle?
"Your Grandmother asked me to give this to you. You can avoid her, but I can't. Early this morning, she came to order me around, saying you're not young anymore and that you must choose someone today. If you don't want to select a primary consort, you could at least consider a secondary consort."
Qi Xiaomian casually flipped through the booklet and scoffed, "Uncle, are you trying to shorten my life?"
"Stop talking nonsense!" Qin Mu Hui scolded.
The women in this booklet were all qualified to be crowned as Crown Consorts. With the power I hold now and the private army you've granted me, I'm already a thorn in the side of your sons. If I were to marry another Noble Lady, when your sons ascend the throne, I would be the first one in trouble.
After a moment of silence, Qin Mu Hui added, "I'll leave you a secret edict for your protection."
Qi Xiaomian hurriedly thanked him but didn't believe the edict would be of much use.
Qin Mu Hui continued, "Your status is noble and your abilities outstanding. If you marry someone from a lower background, it would be a disservice to you. The position of primary consort should come from a prominent family. How about choosing a daughter from the National University Supervisor's family? They have deep scholarly roots and are low-key yet well-connected. Their family has existed since Great Jing; it's impressive for a family to endure through the ages."
"A prominent family means more scholars, and scholars can be quite persuasive. If you were to marry into their family, you wouldn't have to carry the stigma of murder anymore. Their daughters are well-educated; while they may not be the most beautiful, they are certainly dignified and graceful enough to manage your Rear Courtyard."
Qi Xiaomian interrupted him, "Your third son has his eyes on her."
"Well, a graceful woman is meant for a gentleman; you can compete fairly."
Qi Xiaomian firmly rejected the idea. "I don't like having someone whispering in my ear every day or being lectured by others."
"Then how about considering General Gao's granddaughter? She's his only remaining bloodline. Once he passes away, all his military power will belong to you."
General Gao had publicly stated that his granddaughter was looking for a husband.
"Oh? Looking for a husband? That could be discussed; then you'd have more options and could choose one with the Gao surname."
"Forget it; I can't afford that kind of person."
"Then take a look at this."
Qi Xiaomian felt annoyed and interrupted again. "I've seen too much scheming among women since childhood; you know this as well."
"So in this lifetime, I will either remain unmarried or only marry one person. If I am to marry just one, then she must be carefully chosen."
Over the years, I have grown accustomed to the wild life outside, and I truly believe that a woman who only knows how to support her husband and raise children is not suitable for me.
At this moment, Qin Mu Hui interjected, "Oh, so you don't like well-mannered women. Therefore, the rumors going around that you have an affair with Sang Qingxiao are true?"

"Of course not."

Qi Xiaomian defended himself, "My house is directly across from The Office of Censors. I moved there for convenience in handling official business. At night, I discuss case matters and just happen to fill my stomach while I'm at it."
"Oh, so you're just greedy for food? Does the Imperial Kitchen not provide enough for you? If you find it troublesome to go to the palace, I can send a chef to your residence."
