At the peak of Jinchong Mountain lies Puzhao Temple, the foremost temple of Great Jing. Puzhao Temple serves two purposes: it is home to Pujiyuan and the Demon Subduing Institute.
Pujiyuan, which translates to "Universal Salvation," embodies compassion and mercy for all beings. The Demon Subduing Institute, on the other hand, is dedicated to subduing demons and upholding justice in the world. Pujiyuan is situated in the front courtyard, while the Demon Subduing Institute is hidden behind it.
In Pujiyuan, practitioners wear white robes, follow a vegetarian diet, and focus on studying Buddhist scriptures. In contrast, those in the Demon Subduing Institute don gray robes, have no dietary restrictions, and specialize in techniques for subduing demons. The two institutions complement each other like brothers; although they have distinct roles, their interactions are frequent.
Xiao Misha always longed to visit the Demon Subduing Institute but was often distracted by his master. As Misha grew older, Master Wulian found it increasingly challenging to keep him occupied. He thought that as long as Misha remained somewhat obedient and with the other disciples watching over him, they could manage for a few more years.
Year after year passed, and Xiao Misha still had not fulfilled his wish to see the Demon Subduing Institute. "Master, I want to go down the mountain and take a look," he said. Observing the lives of ordinary people was also a crucial lesson for Pujiyuan. Master Wulian agreed but cautioned him to carry a special pouch that must not be opened or lost, nor shown to anyone.
Such instructions had been repeated countless times since Misha learned to understand. Master Wulian patiently reiterated them while Misha listened attentively. Misha once asked what was inside the pouch, and his master explained that he was light-hearted and needed a heavy treasure to weigh him down. This treasure was rumored to have life-restoring properties; if revealed, it could lead to endless troubles.
From Gufu Village at the foot of the mountain to Guxiang Town, Misha traveled familiar paths where villagers greeted him warmly, calling him their little master and inviting him for water and rest.
"Brother! Brother!"
In town, he encountered Xuan Yin, who rushed over with excitement. "Brother! Today I can finally take on missions by myself!"
At sixteen years old, Xuan Yin officially became an independent demon catcher today. Meanwhile, Misha, also sixteen, insisted on using his savings to celebrate Xuan Yin's achievement.

Though labeled as a demon-catching mission, it was actually a reconnaissance task due to suspected demonic activity that had caused minimal harm so far. Thus, this simple investigation was assigned to newcomers; if evidence emerged later, higher-level demon catchers would be dispatched for capture.
As they walked, Xuan Yin shared stories about the unusual happenings in Big Willow Tree Village with Misha.

In Big Willow Tree Village, a villager named Xu Yi had been married to his wife for three years, during which they had five children together. However, not long ago, he discovered that he was actually incapable of having children. In a fit of rage, he accidentally killed two of his own children. Although they were not biologically related, he had raised them since they were little and had developed a deep bond with them.
After the impulsive act came an overwhelming sense of regret. After burying his children, Xu Yi reported the incident that very night. He initially thought it was a straightforward case, but when the Old Constable and his team went to Big Willow Tree Village for their routine investigation, they found something unexpected.
Xuan Yin teased, "Guess what they discovered?"
