Wang Teng stumbled out of the registration office, supported by a few Lackeys.
"Damn it, how dare he hit me! I'll make him pay!" Wang Teng gritted his teeth, clutching his fractured wrist as he cursed under his breath.
"Senior Brother Wang Teng, should I report him to the Law Enforcement Hall for committing a crime against you?" one of the Lackeys said, fawning over him.
"Report him? With the strength he just displayed, do you think those old geezers at the Law Enforcement Hall would risk offending him for my sake?" Wang Teng snapped back. "Besides, even if we did manage to punish him, what would that accomplish? Are we going to kill him? That would only make me look worse in the academy!"
"So what do you mean?"
"Hmph, anyone who dares to oppose me, Wang Teng, will find it impossible to stay at the Imperial Academy!" A glint of malice flashed in Wang Teng's eyes. "Come on, let's find Ye Shao; we need him to handle this!"
The group made their way through several streets until they arrived at a secluded courtyard.
Though small in size, the courtyard was surrounded by tall walls and guarded by two sentinels clad in silver armor, exuding an intimidating aura. It was clearly a place of high status within the student dormitories.
"Ye Shao is inside; you all wait here," Wang Teng instructed as he straightened his clothes and walked directly into the courtyard.
Inside the courtyard, pavilions and flowing streams created a picturesque scene that starkly contrasted with the noisy academy outside.
In a building deep within the courtyard, a young man dressed in ornate robes lounged on a soft couch, holding a cup of Fragrant Tea while leisurely listening to two beautiful maidens playing music beside him.
This young man was none other than Ye Shao, one of the four great disciples of the Imperial Academy—Ye Lingyun!
"Ye Shao, you have to help me!"
As soon as Wang Teng entered the building, he fell to his knees with a thud, tears streaming down his face as he recounted his grievances.
"What has made Senior Brother Wang Teng so furious?" Ye Lingyun asked casually, setting down his teacup as if he hadn't noticed Wang Teng kneeling before him.
"Ye Shao, it's that guy named Chen Li! Not only did he refuse to offer Elixir, but he also publicly assaulted me and humiliated me! You must help me!"
"Chen Li? Is that the one with astonishing bloodline testing but lacking ancestral protection?" Ye Lingyun raised an eyebrow slightly.
Wang Teng nodded vigorously. "That's him!"
"Useless!"
After hearing Wang Teng's account, a cold glint flashed in Ye Lingyun's eyes. He slammed his hand on the table, startling the two maidens beside him.
"If you can't even deal with them, what use are you to me?"
Wang Teng trembled at those words and quickly bowed his head in fear, pleading for mercy.
"Ye Shao, please give me another chance. I promise to make their lives miserable at the academy!"
"You pig-headed fool, how could you possibly make them suffer?" Ye Lingyun said disdainfully.
Although he was also a student at the academy with a respectable status, and with the secret support of the Wuding Marquisate, it should be easy to deal with a mere Wang Teng. He had thought that he could make Chen Li and Shen Qingyue's lives difficult without having to show his face, but he never expected that this Wang Teng would be so useless.
Feeling frustrated, Ye Lingyun glanced at Wang Teng, who was trembling in fear and dared not move. The sight of Wang Teng's miserable expression only added to Ye Lingyun's annoyance.
"Get out of here before I see you again!"
"Yes, yes!"
Wang Teng felt as if he had been granted a reprieve and scrambled away from the loft.
"Someone! Go investigate Chen Li and Shen Qingyue's movements. I want to know where they are!"
After Wang Teng left, a cold glint flickered in Ye Lingyun's eyes as he commanded sharply.
"Yes, Young Master." The guards quickly concealed themselves and vanished from sight.
Ye Lingyun coldly crushed the cup in his hand. "Chen Li, Shen Qingyue, I am the true genius of the capital. Soon enough, you will realize that you are nothing but stepping stones for me!"
Meanwhile, Chen Li and Shen Qingyue had arrived at Cold Blossom Hall.
The sunset had painted half the sky red as they pushed open the dilapidated wooden door. The courtyard was eerily quiet, save for a few sparrows chirping away as if mocking the siblings' misfortune.
Chen Li tossed his storage bag onto the ground and let out a long sigh of relief.
"Be careful! Look at all this dust; it's getting in my eyes!" Shen Qingyue complained while rubbing her eyes, her small face scrunched up in displeasure.
"Who told you to get so close?" Chen Li shot her an annoyed look. "You're six years old; can't you behave a little better?"
"Hmph! I do what I want!" Shen Qingyue stuck her tongue out at him before plopping down on the rickety bamboo chair in the courtyard. "Hurry up and open the storage bag! Let This Emperor see what we collected today!"
Chen Li shook his head helplessly. This girl had entered the Imperial Academy and learned nothing but how to put on airs.
He opened the storage bag and poured out everything inside. Ten round and plump Elixirs, emitting a faint fragrance, along with two Skybreaking Pills that sparkled with lightning, lay quietly there.
This was the bounty that he and his sister had just collected over the past month. Shen Qingyue looked at the meager spoils before her and couldn't help but sigh, "Ah, I never expected that This Emperor would one day be so poor."
Chen Li reached out and gently tapped her forehead with his finger. "Little girl, stop calling me This Emperor all the time. If you keep this up, be careful that the Elder of the Academy might wipe you out!"
Shen Qingyue covered her forehead and shot him an annoyed glare. "You just like to bully me! Besides, ten Elixirs and two Skybreaking Pills—if this were in the past, This Emperor wouldn't even glance at them!"
"Alright, alright, my little aunt, stop complaining," Chen Li said with a helpless smile. "These pills are already enough for Mother to heal properly."
"True," Shen Qingyue acknowledged. She understood that their situation was different now and reluctantly accepted reality. "Then let's take these pills to Mother. She's seriously injured; we need to hurry and check on her."
"That's what I was thinking too," Chen Li nodded. "However, if we want to leave the academy, we need to find Elder Qin from the Law Enforcement Hall to get a Leave Request Talisman; otherwise, we won't be able to exit the academy gates."
"What are we waiting for? Let's go now!" Shen Qingyue exclaimed as she jumped off the bamboo chair, grabbed Chen Li's hand, and hurriedly headed outside.
"Slow down, you little rascal! I'm not going to run away!" Chen Li said as he was pulled along, helplessly following her.
He knew all too well that they were far too poor right now. Even though the system had granted him extraordinary comprehension abilities, the amount of pills they had was simply insufficient for their cultivation needs.
Even with the system's help, it was hard to make something out of nothing! It seemed that after visiting their mother, they would have to come up with a solid plan to earn some money.
