As night fell, the silver moon hung like a hook in the sky, casting a dim glow over the quiet streets of Tokyo. The bustling city revealed its hidden side under the cloak of darkness—serene yet mysterious. In this tranquility, a sudden murder shattered the stillness like a thunderclap.
Drip, drip—the rainwater trickled down from the eaves, creating small ripples on the cobblestone path. Inside the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department, the atmosphere was tense and heavy. The head of the Special Investigations Unit, Suzuki, stood at the front of the conference room, his gaze piercing as he scanned each officer present.
"Everyone," he began, "a bizarre murder occurred tonight at Soul Hospital. The victim is Professor Sota, the chief surgeon of the hospital. Preliminary assessments indicate it was homicide."
"Professor Sota? He's a titan in the medical field!" exclaimed a young officer in surprise.
Suzuki nodded and continued, "Yes, Professor Sota was not only an exceptional surgeon but also a kind man who was deeply respected by patients and staff alike. The sudden nature of his death demands a thorough investigation."
As soon as he finished speaking, the conference room door creaked open. A woman in a trench coat with a stern expression stepped inside. She was none other than Detective Silence.
" Silence, you’re here," Suzuki greeted her with a glimmer of anticipation in his eyes.
Silence nodded slightly and walked straight to the conference table, flipping through the case files laid out before her. "Professor Sota's time of death was approximately between eight and nine o'clock in the evening. He died from cardiac arrest, but traces of toxins were found in his system," she said softly, her brow furrowed in concentration.
"Toxins?" Suzuki frowned at this revelation. "Does this mean someone poisoned him?"
"We can't be certain yet," Silence shook her head. "However, based on the scene, it appears that the murderer was very familiar with the hospital environment and managed to evade all surveillance cameras while executing their plan silently."
The next morning, sunlight filtered through the clouds and illuminated the entrance of Soul Hospital. Silence changed into casual clothes and donned sunglasses as she entered this enigmatic place. Inside the hospital, medical staff worked busily and orderly, as if last night's tragedy had left no mark on them.
Silence made her way to Professor Sota's office, carefully examining every corner. The office was simply yet elegantly furnished; shelves were filled with medical books and trophies that reflected the owner's passion for medicine. Yet behind this tranquility and glory lay secrets unknown to others.
"Is there anything unusual here?" Suzuki asked quietly as he followed closely behind Silence.
Silence did not respond immediately; instead, she crouched down to pick up a fragment of a pill from the floor. "Did you notice this?" she held up the fragment to show Suzuki.
"Pill?" Suzuki took it and examined it closely. "This appears to be a new type of heart medication currently in clinical trials."
"Exactly," Silence nodded. "Moreover, this medication can only be accessed by senior researchers within the hospital. This could be key to unraveling the mystery."
Subsequently, Silence and Suzuki conducted thorough interviews with all relevant personnel within the hospital—doctors, nurses, researchers, and even cleaning staff. However, as their investigation deepened, they found that everyone seemed to have clean backgrounds with no suspicious elements. The case appeared to be at an impasse.
Just when everyone felt hopeless, Silence suddenly received a mysterious phone call. A low voice on the other end said: "Do you want to know the truth? Meet me at ten o'clock tonight at the abandoned warehouse behind the hospital."
A chill ran down Silence's spine; her intuition told her that this call concealed significant secrets. She immediately reported back to Suzuki about the situation and decided to go alone to meet whoever had called her.
