Leaving the previous room, Lu Xiaoran continued his search on the fifth floor, quickly dealing with the few remaining stragglers hiding there. He had not seen anyone named Zhou Pengfei, which suggested that he was not currently in this research institute.
Standing in the corridor on the fifth floor, Lu Xiaoran shook his head in disappointment. He had taken care of all the researchers in the institute, yet he still hadn't encountered Zhou Pengfei. Based on a phone call he overheard earlier, where someone wanted to summon Zhou Pengfei, Lu Xiaoran speculated that Zhou might be elsewhere and not inside the institute.
He wondered about Zhou Pengfei's true identity and where he could be hiding. Lu Xiaoran thought to himself that without resolving this issue with Zhou Pengfei, his revenge would never be complete. He was determined to find him and kill him with his own hands.
"Alright, I'll check each room one by one to see if I can find any useful clues," Lu Xiaoran decided as he pushed open the door to a nearby room. He rummaged through the drawer of a desk in the corner, hoping to uncover some valuable information about the Yiren Research Institute.
Suddenly, while Lu Xiaoran was carefully examining an item in his hand, a loud explosion echoed from a distance, causing the ground beneath him to shake.
"What’s happening?" Lu Xiaoran exclaimed in surprise, immediately dropping what he was holding and turning around to assess the situation with heightened alertness.
Through the window beside him, he noticed a shadow moving slowly along the street outside the research institute. The toxic gas obscured his view, making it difficult for him to discern what the shadow was.
Before long, the shadow came to a halt. A brilliant beam of light suddenly shot out from it, striking directly at the building where Lu Xiaoran was located.
With a deafening roar, as the light illuminated the walls of the research institute, the reinforced concrete structure was sliced through effortlessly. Large chunks of debris collapsed with a thunderous crash.
"This is bad. If this continues, the entire building might collapse!" Lu Xiaoran realized that staying here was no longer an option. Although he couldn't clearly see what had fired that beam of light, he understood its destructive power all too well. Just a slight flicker had been enough to cut through solid concrete walls.
If he continued to stay in this building, even if he wasn't directly hit by that beam of light, he could still be injured by falling debris.
Thinking this, Lu Xiaoran quickly turned around, smashed the window beside him, and used his Flight Ability to soar out of the opening.
As Lu Xiaoran flew in mid-air, he looked down to confirm what that shadow on the street really was.
Whoosh!
At that moment, another beam of light shot out from the shadow's position, heading straight for Lu Xiaoran. He hurriedly dodged to avoid the attack from the light.
