Although Ma Zhibiao had a gun in hand, Lu Xiaoran possessed several abilities at the same time. If he could take advantage of Ma Zhibiao's moment of inattention and launch a surprise attack, he would surely be able to eliminate him before he could draw his weapon.
Eliminating Ma Zhibiao would be easy, but doing so would only solidify Zhang Kaiwen's suspicions about Lu Xiaoran. If Zhang Kaiwen gathered all the abilities in the shelter to confront Lu Xiaoran afterward, he could still find himself in danger. After all, the abilities Lu Xiaoran currently possessed were only effective for close-range attacks and could not target anything too far away. Therefore, he was not yet capable of facing over thirty abilities in the shelter by himself.
"Lu Xiaoran, let's start our raid from this building," Ma Zhibiao said as they arrived in front of a residential building. After parking the car, Ma Zhibiao used his Flight Ability to soar into the air and surveyed the situation inside the building.
After determining which household might have supplies worth raiding, Ma Zhibiao landed back on the ground and turned to Lu Xiaoran. "Let's go to apartment 702. They have high-end furniture, so it's clear they must be wealthy. They should have plenty of food stored."
"Alright, let's head up together," Lu Xiaoran nodded in agreement and followed him up to the seventh floor.
Ma Zhibiao's guess was correct; apartment 702 indeed had a significant amount of food. The two of them found two large bags of frozen meat in the refrigerator. After packing up these supplies, they raided a few more apartments on the upper floors.
Before long, their plastic bags were filled to the brim with goods. Looking at their haul, Ma Zhibiao nodded with satisfaction and said to Lu Xiaoran, "Today went smoothly; we gathered so much in less than an hour. We can wrap things up early."
The two returned to their car with their spoils. Ma Zhibiao took the passenger seat while Lu Xiaoran settled into the driver's seat. They had agreed that Ma Zhibiao would drive on the way there and Lu Xiaoran would take over on the way back.
After starting the car, Lu Xiaoran drove along the road within the community, preparing to exit through the main gate.
"Hmm? What's going on with that van behind us?"
From the rearview mirror, Lu Xiaoran noticed a white van trailing them about fifty meters back. Every time he made a turn, the van followed suit. It appeared that they were being followed.
"Is that car carrying someone from our shelter?" Ma Zhibiao asked quietly, glancing sideways at Lu Xiaoran as he drove.
Lu Xiaoran stole a quick look at Ma Zhibiao's movements, his suspicion growing. If the people in that car were indeed from the shelter, it was very likely they were following him for a reason.
His nerves were on edge now, ready to use his ability to jump out of the car at any moment.
"Impossible. There’s no such vehicle in our shelter," Ma Zhibiao replied confidently after staring at the van for a while.
Then he muttered softly to himself, "It's strange. That van does seem to be tailing us. I wonder what they want."
