As Chu Xiaoli walked through the door, she was immediately struck by the scene before her. The entire room was luxuriously decorated and brightly lit, filled with various brand-name furniture. More importantly, the indoor temperature was incredibly pleasant, a stark contrast to the biting cold outside.
Her gaze fell upon a whole roasted lamb on the table, emanating an enticing aroma that made her swallow involuntarily. Chu Xiaoli couldn't help but sigh inwardly; in comparison, her own cold home felt desolate. This place was like a warm paradise!
Suddenly, as she immersed herself in this warm world, she felt someone tugging at her clothes, pulling her out of her reverie.
"Your clothes are too dirty; leave them at the door," Lin Tianyu said flatly.
"Oh," Chu Xiaoli replied, looking down. She hesitated to meet Lin Tianyu's gaze because seeing him reminded her of that awkward incident from before.
"What do you want, Mrs. Chu?" Lin Tianyu calmly took a seat at the dining table, picking up a carving knife and starting to eat the lamb piece by piece.
Chu Xiaoli swallowed again and mustered the courage to say, "I was hoping to borrow some food; I'm really hungry."
"Food? It's snowing everywhere; do you understand the importance of food?" Lin Tianyu asked while eating, his mouth smeared with grease.
Chu Xiaoli's eyes were glued to the roasted lamb on the table, and she couldn't help but swallow again before answering, "I know; I have money. I can buy it."
In her heart, she still held onto a sliver of hope that the heavy snow would stop and the weather would gradually improve. But in reality, that was impossible.
"Buy? Do you think money is useful right now?" Lin Tianyu retorted with a hint of sarcasm. "If money could buy food, you wouldn't be here asking me."
"What do I have to do to get you to give me something to eat?"
Two hours later.
Lin Tianyu sat quietly by the window, his gaze fixed on the world outside as he lit a cigarette. The smoke curled upward, seemingly carrying his thoughts far away.
Meanwhile, Chu Xiaoli lay weakly sprawled on the soft genuine leather sofa, her eyes tightly shut and a look of satisfaction and relaxation on her face.
"This feels so good," Lin Tianyu thought as he took a deep drag from his cigarette. He reflected on how much better life was now compared to his past life.
In his previous life, he had nearly starved on the streets and ultimately became someone else's meal. Remembering those dark days sent a shiver down Lin Tianyu's spine.
"The apocalypse won't end, and the temperature outside will remain low. You can only survive by sticking with me!"
Chu Xiaoli nodded, indicating her willingness to stay.
"And also," he continued, "the bracelet on your ankle can take your life at any moment. Don't have any bad thoughts."
Chu Xiaoli nodded again; she already knew this guy was trouble.
Just as Lin Tianyu was about to delve deeper into their conversation, Chu Xiaoli suddenly exclaimed, "Wait! I'm out of energy, and my stomach is growling. I need to eat something!"
Lin Tianyu realized he had overlooked this detail and slapped his forehead. Of course, since she was on his side, how could he let her go hungry?
Seeing that Lin Tianyu had stopped what he was doing, Chu Xiaoli got up and walked toward the dining table, ready to savor the delicious roasted lamb that filled the air with its enticing aroma.
