In the eyes of the residents of the Safe Zone, Yelai was just an ordinary person, yet his name resonated throughout this Safe Zone and even the surrounding ones. This was all because he was the boyfriend of the renowned Luo Zhenxue. Everyone knew how much Luo Zhenxue loved Yelai; she cherished him dearly, and they were like a pair of immortal lovers.
Now that it was revealed that Captain Luo had gone mad, everyone felt a sense of relief. It was no wonder Captain Luo had lost her mind; her beloved had died.
Wait a minute. Yelai was dead? This would be a huge blow to Captain Luo. Would she fall into despair? Some residents began to worry. Luo Zhenxue was like a guardian deity to their Safe Zone; if she fell apart, wouldn’t that mean danger for everyone?
Yelai really shouldn’t have died after being given the best place to live. Was he trying to show off again and ended up getting himself killed? It was possible. That foolish guy didn’t realize how much Captain Luo treasured him. His death meant nothing to him, but now it had driven Captain Luo insane—he truly deserved to die.
With this realization, many residents grew restless, placing the blame for Yelai’s death squarely on him. In this apocalypse, everyone was on edge, and no one cared that Yelai was also a victim; they only knew that with Luo Zhenxue out of sorts, they would feel unsafe as well.
At that moment, several young captains and the Vice Captain spoke up.
"Actually, I’m not worried. Captain Luo will definitely adjust," one said.
"I think we should be thankful that Yelai is dead. This way, Captain Luo has no burdens left; she can pursue something better."
They were all admirers of Captain Luo, some even pursuing her. Yelai’s death opened up a glimmer of hope for them. His passing wasn’t bad for Captain Luo; it was good—she deserved someone better.
Indeed, the present is not what it used to be. Yelai, a useless key, how could he possibly stand alongside Captain Luo? Captain Luo is destined to soar like a phoenix. What she needs is a partner who can fight by her side, not someone who can only be protected by her, someone who has no resistance against the Entity at all.
Though these words may sound harsh to the deceased Yelai, they are indeed true. With Yelai gone, Captain Luo can rise even higher. Just recently, wasn't she invited by several major Safe Zones? Now that Yelai is no longer around, she no longer has to look back and hesitate.
Yelai... he was a decent person, but he truly couldn't match Captain Luo.
"Shut up! The man is dead, and you're still talking behind his back. Have some decency."
"Decency? In this day and age? What good does that do? Reality is cruel."
Despite Yelai usually treating those of us in the Sequence alongside Luo Zhenxue well, once a person dies, it's as if their light has been extinguished. Many captains, vice captains, and team members may not openly agree with this sentiment, but deep down, they acknowledge it and even support such views.
This is not a time of peace. What matters is not money but the ability to survive. A useless key in the Sequence is destined to remain at the bottom.
Cthulhu Town.
Though it’s called a town, it doesn’t belong to humans. Every building and every inch of land here belongs to the Entity; it is neither human property nor part of Blue Star. No one knows where Cthulhu Town truly is. Some say it exists in the world from which the Entity came; others claim it's a place on Blue Star that has been infected.
No one can say for sure.
The discovery of Cthulhu Town was an accident; the Sequence stumbled upon this place and uncovered Cthulhu itself.
At this moment, Luo Zhenxue was sprinting towards a certain location in the town, clutching a bloodstained bedsheet tightly.
She appeared in an instant.
In the once silent town of Cthulhu, the houses and windows seemed to awaken, as if eyes were opening within. They peered at the human girl. Their eyes were strange, certainly not those of any human. They were Entities.
However, due to the peculiar nature of Cthulhu Town, these Entities did not attack Luo Zhenxue. She was indifferent to their gaze, her mind solely focused on the remnants of Yelai's body wrapped in the bedsheet, still warm to the touch.
Hurry.
A glimmer caught her eye. Ahead lay a massive Stone Platform, inscribed with numerous bizarre symbols and ancient texts that were obscure and difficult to comprehend. Unlike the clean Teleportation Altar, the Stone Platform was dark brown, resembling a scab formed from dried blood, indicating that it had been stained by many corpses and other sanguine offerings.
Quickly, she placed Yelai's dismembered body upon the Stone Platform. Luo Zhenxue knelt on her knees like a devout Cultist and began to chant an ancient incantation, its meaning lost to time. This was an ancient spell for summoning Cthulhu through sacrificial offerings.
She intended to resurrect her beloved Yelai.
The ancient incantation resonated softly in the air as time trickled by.
