Muen sighed helplessly and turned to the two oblivious individuals, asking, "Do you have anything else to say?"
"We're tired from traveling and need a break," Anke bluntly stated, getting straight to the point. "Anan, can I be your Beastman?"
Anyuan was taken aback by this sudden confession, initially thinking he had misheard. Anger surged within him as he silently cursed Anke's elders several times.
He suppressed his fury, forcing a smile while delivering the cruelest words in the gentlest tone: "In your dreams!"
Muen's lips instantly curled into a grin that reached his ears, his heart swelling with happiness as he thought to himself: My darling only has eyes for me. He quickly concealed his smug smile and said with a sharp gaze, "Alright, you two should leave now!"
But Mingyue was undeterred, his tone involuntarily rising as he asked, "What about me? Do I have a chance?"
After speaking, he narcissistically ran his fingers through his hair.
Anyuan was so furious that his head throbbed, momentarily at a loss for how to scold him.
Seeing this, Muen quickly intervened to send the two away.
Turning his gaze to the two pieces of meat laid out nearby, his once-bright eyes darkened instantly.
Anyuan followed his line of sight and felt a twinge of anxiety. "They sent this; we can't accept it, right? Let's go back."
Muen excitedly transformed back into his original form, leaping onto Anyuan and affectionately nuzzling him while whining and howling as if expressing his dissatisfaction and grievances.
"Anan, can you please stop accepting gifts from others in the future?"
Muen's tone carried a hint of humility as Anyuan smiled and nodded, saying, "Sure, since we Muen are such good hunters, I have plenty of meat to eat anyway."
Although Anyuan had publicly rejected Mingyue and Anke, accepting their gifts would inevitably give them false hope.
Muen mistakenly thought it was just a woman's coyness and hurried after the two who had not yet walked far, saying, "Anan, let me return the meat you brought."
Mingyue did not accept it; instead, she mockingly laughed at Muen and said, "You don't actually want to claim Anan for yourself, do you? He’s so good-looking; even without beast markings, other beastmen will be eyeing him."
Muen gritted his teeth, clenching his fists as he struggled to suppress the anger boiling within him.
"And you two aren't even married yet, right?"
The scorn on Mingyue's face felt like a heavy stone crashing into Muen's chest, making it hard for him to breathe.
He lifted his head and met Mingyue's gaze with determination, saying, "He is mine; he likes me."
"So what? He still has the right to choose other males. The beastmen have polygamous customs everywhere; you’ve seen it yourself."
"Yes, he likes you now, but who knows? He might like someone else in a few days."
Mingyue's words were like a sharp blade, piercing deeply into Muen's heart.
His body froze, and his head buzzed with a constant echo of Mingyue's provocative words, to the point that he didn't even remember how he made it back to his cave.
Anyuan keenly sensed Muen's unease and asked with concern, "What's wrong? You've been back in the tribe for less than a day, and your emotions have changed so much. It worries me to see you like this."
"I'm fine."
Muen forced a stiff smile, trying to adjust his emotions. Holding a bamboo tube in one hand, he said to Anyuan, "Come on, let's go get some water together."
Anyuan quietly followed. Although he wanted to comfort him, he didn't know the reason behind Muen's distress, and since Muen was unwilling to speak, he could only silently stay by his side.
