He was right; his younger brother's talent was enough to reassure the Old Taoist. How about that? He had struck gold.
Indeed, he had struck gold. It was true.
Seeing the Old Taoist's expression, Gu Ping felt a sense of certainty. The Old Taoist had never encountered a disciple with such talent in his lifetime. Gu Ping managed to control his spiritual energy release, avoiding any outbursts that might have terrified the Old Taoist.
For the Old Taoist, the greatest gain from this event was undoubtedly meeting Gu Ping. After acquiring Gu Ping, he lost interest in observing the other mediocre disciples and returned to his small courtyard in Xixia Town, preparing to take Gu Ping to the Outer Sect at Fang Tang Mountain.
He hoped that Gu Ping would successfully establish his foundation there. The Old Taoist was confident that once Gu Ping did, Fang Tang Mountain's Outer Sect would shine brightly in the Cheng Dao Sect's Seven Great Outer Sect Sect Martial Arts Tournament.
Gu Ping, however, was unaware of the Old Taoist's thoughts. Upon returning to the mansion he had settled into yesterday, he gave Ye You some items and even entrusted Yoyo to look after Ye You. After all, Yoyo had made quite an impression during the initial battle in Tiandong City, and many were keeping an eye on her.
If the Old Taoist knew that Gu Ping had no intention of staying long in the Outer Sect, he might have secretly taken some action. At this moment, Gu Ping's displayed talent appeared to many as a precious gem, just waiting to be carved.
Before long, news had already spread back to Fang Tang Mountain's Outer Sect. Unlike other disciples, Gu Ping received special treatment due to his earlier gifts to the Old Taoist. He was granted a private courtyard and received more elixirs than others. He was also allocated better spiritual tools. Although Gu Ping didn't care much about these perks—after all, he was still young—it didn't seem inappropriate for him to appear more mature than other children.
Thus began Gu Ping's journey in the sect, hoping it would have a good beginning and end.
While on the mountain, Gu Ping found himself reminiscing about his brief time at the academy. Perhaps it was fate playing tricks on him or perhaps it was destiny; regardless, although Gu Ping felt like a street rat everyone wanted to chase away, he still couldn't stand openly before everyone. He needed the power of the Primordial Dao. While he didn't expect an ancient Daoist sect to make any substantial changes for him, he believed that once he demonstrated his potential for greatness, Cheng Dao Sect would be eager to cultivate him as a pillar of their Daoist sect.
"Gu Shixiong, Elder Shi is looking for you." An Outer Sect Disciple stood outside the door delivering the message.
This was already the first time the Old Taoist had sent someone to call for Gu Ping. Each time before this, the Old Taoist would hand Gu Ping one or two bottles of elixirs that ordinary disciples couldn't even see. It seemed he intended to use this opportunity to solidify his position after Gu Ping entered the Outer Sect. After all, one could hardly repay such kindness from someone who recognized their worth—especially since the Old Taoist had seen through Gu Ping’s character as someone who wouldn’t forget such favors.
"Thank you, Senior Brother Xie," Gu Ping said, accepting the elixir that was handed to him. The Outer Sect Disciple received it with delight. Gu Ping was usually quite low-key, and since Shi Laodao had given him the elixir, he didn’t think much of it and simply passed it along to them. As a result, Gu Ping's reputation at Fang Tang Mountain and among the Outer Sect was well-known and highly regarded.
Even though no one had seen Gu Ping make a move, his displayed talent during the sect's events and his habit of staying out of the limelight had led the disciples to subtly regard him as their leader. Before Gu Ping officially made a move, not a single person dared to challenge him, which truly surprised him.
When they reached the halfway point up the mountain, at Elder Shi's residence, Gu Ping was about to knock on the door when he heard Elder Shi's voice.
"Come in, Mei Ba."
"Thank you, Elder."
Gu Ping was somewhat taken aback; aside from Elder Shi, there was another Daoist dressed in robes standing beside Shi Laodao.
That person was Elder Xiao from the Outer Sect. A few months ago, he had sent someone to deliver a message back to the Outer Sect. There was a Great Master from the Xiao Clan outside who wanted to take him as a disciple and had sent Elder Xiao to inquire about his intentions.
"Given how much I have relied on Elder Shi’s care these days, I will leave it up to Elder Shi to decide," Gu Ping replied politely. He didn’t really care about that matter anyway. However, being able to enter the Outer Sect ahead of time could be beneficial for him. He just wasn’t sure how much influence that Great Master from the Xiao Clan had within Cheng Dao Sect. If he happened to be connected with Xiao Zhang and got recognized, it could lead to trouble.
Seeing this, Shi Laodao glanced at Elder Xiao beside him and pondered for a moment before noticing Elder Xiao pulling out a small vial of elixir from his Dao robe’s sleeve and placing it on the table. In his opinion, it would be better for Gu Ping to accompany Elder Xiao to the Outer Sect; after all, given his talent, he would eventually seek entry into the Outer Sect anyway. Now would save him quite a bit of time.
"Thank you, Elder Shi. Thank you, Elder Xiao. I will go prepare my things," Gu Ping said.
As Gu Ping was leaving, he saw Elder Xiao handing something to Liu Dong, a gesture that reeked of opportunism. No wonder he had remained just an Outer Sect elder his entire life, never even reaching the Golden Core Realm; it seemed his life would remain stagnant like that.
With that thought, Gu Ping couldn't help but sigh quietly. Many people continued to live their lives as usual, completely unaware that the Battle of the Three Realms had already arrived silently.
