Looking around, there was no one else in sight. After all, this was the mansion of the prince; beyond the guards at the entrance, there would be no common folk. Gu Ping seized the opportunity to quietly follow a group of people with dogs until he reached the door of a room in the eastern wing.
What should he do? Should he go in?
As Gu Ping pondered, he suddenly heard many footsteps approaching from behind. Could it be Liu Jia? He quickly found a place to hide, peeking out to observe a group of men in black arriving at that location.
Liu Jia's people would never wear night cloaks inside their own mansion; they must be another group hiding in the shadows. He recalled that the news mentioned dogs being harmed by those black-clad figures, but it remained unclear which faction they belonged to. Liu Donghui's information had not provided a definitive answer.
At that moment, one of the black-clad men hid next to Gu Ping. The instant he spotted Gu Ping, he wanted to cry out and alert his comrades that there was someone nearby, but he feared alarming the guards in the mansion. He hesitated, unsure of what to do.
Gu Ping, however, did not hesitate. Realizing that the black-clad man had taken refuge beside him, he swiftly subdued him in that fleeting moment when the man stood frozen. Then, he stripped off the man's night cloak and donned it himself, while his own fur coat was tucked away in a corner. Yoyo had been placed there when Gu Ping entered the cave and was still sound asleep.
Liu Jia had arrived. Although he was already advanced in age, one could not discern an elderly demeanor from his stride; he moved with the vigor of a young man, decisive and forceful. Any signs of aging seemed to be merely for show.
The black-clad men closely followed Liu Jia into the eastern room. Gu Ping lingered at first but entered after everyone else had gone inside.
What he did not expect was that there were cultivators present within. The aura felt familiar; where had he sensed it before? Gu Ping quietly approached the interrogation room next door and peered inside.
The moment he saw the cold-faced middle-aged man, realization struck him—so it was him.
That man was Leng Gucun from the Moon River Sect. Two years ago, he had played a crucial role during the Light Canon incident. Upon encountering Youluo Hades, Leng Gucun had decided to ally with him and had even persuaded him to eliminate Chongguang. He was also the only one who had fought Chongguang alone.
During their initial battle against Light, Leng Gucun's confidence and composure had left a lasting impression on Gu Ping. Yet, he never expected to see that person under such circumstances again.
The trial of the dog had begun. Gu Ping suddenly thought about whether to seek help or not. What if he denied it? Would he end up in a cave, or worse, dead? It felt as if he were standing before another world, reliving the moment that had transpired.
Help, or not help?
Gu Ping quietly moved closer to the dog. He could clearly see the expression on the dog's face—helplessness and fear. At that moment, did the dog regret its decision to help him? Did it think that aiding him was a mistake? He felt utterly powerless to do anything for it, not even to take revenge.
Gu Ping felt weak. Even with newfound strength, he couldn't challenge a colossal being like Wuliang. If he recklessly went to avenge the dog, it would be tantamount to seeking death.
Leng Gucun tore a piece of clothing from the dog and began muttering some incantation. In his hand was a mirror, and slowly two figures appeared within it—two people changing clothes.
Gu Ping could clearly see the scene of himself and the dog changing clothes. He wasn't sure if this was an illusion or if he had truly traveled back two years. There was no telling what might happen next, so Gu Ping took action.
He lunged at the mirror-like object in front of Leng Gucun with the long sword he had taken from the black-clad man, shattering the image within. Leng Gucun looked at the sword in surprise and then glanced at Liu Jia with astonishment.
The black-clad men who had been lying in wait saw that their cover was blown and rushed forward. Taking advantage of Leng Gucun's moment of distraction, blue flames suddenly ignited around the dog, turning it to ashes.
Bu Luo Gu Ping did not witness the moment when the dog was burned to ashes; at the instant he shattered the image with his sword, the scene before him changed once more.
Crouching in a corner of a dungeon, Gu Ping suddenly realized he was no longer in the dungeon but in a familiar corner of a courtyard. This must be Liu Jia's residence. But how had he appeared here out of nowhere? Gu Ping carefully concealed himself.
