Hong Ling was filled with confusion, but there was no one to help him digest it all. The Jade Void Sect feared that if they acted recklessly, they might end up harming themselves. As for Tian Di Dong, it seemed unlikely that anyone could match Yi Dongzi's strength, especially when it came to accomplishing those three tasks simultaneously. The words of Jie Donglai and Hong Yulong left Hong Ling deep in thought.
He didn’t want to take a big bite without considering the consequences. Beyond the gates of the heavenly realm—Tai Xu, Youluo, Hades—there were countless dangers lurking in the shadows, including Yuan Shi, who might be watching closely. Coupled with the Infinite associated with Sky's End Tower, he wondered if it was even possible to gain any clarity.
Hong Yulong flagged down a carriage and gestured for Hong Ling to get in.
"Young Master, where to?" the driver asked respectfully, bowing slightly.
"Where do you think?" Hong Yulong replied.
Hearing his question, Hong Ling snapped back to reality from his earlier shock. The grand door had fallen into disrepair; could it really hold against the impending threats? The answer seemed painfully obvious.
"Oh, west of the city, Old Smithy," he finally said.
Hong Ling knew that was where Feiyuxuzong had set up a line of sight in the Dust Realm. However, Sky's End Tower had always kept its distance from Jade Void Sect, so he had no idea what lay ahead. The carriage driver was an older gentleman with plenty of experience; he was already familiar with the route to Jincheng. As soon as Hong Ling mentioned the name, the driver urged the horses forward.
As they traveled, Hong Ling suddenly thought of a question and turned to Hong Yulong. "Why..."
Before he could finish his sentence, Hong Yulong interrupted him with a gesture.
"Shh," he said, quickly casting a soundproofing spell and signaling for Hong Ling to keep quiet.
He wanted to ask why those associated with light did not avoid battle. Given the current situation, wasn't there at least a slim chance of victory?
Because that person named Gu Ping was holding something very similar to what Coco had before Zun Wei Guangming died, it was something that could not be discarded in the eyes of light. Therefore, those associated with light would definitely come looking for it.
Why wouldn't the Jade Void Sect send a Great Master to cast a Spell and find that person named Gu Ping?
Those cultivators at that level exist in the Jade Void Sect, in Sky's End Tower, and surely among the forces of light as well. I doubt the people of light would just sit back and watch.
Am I saying that this is a way to lure them out, to find that person named Gu Ping, and then surround the people of light?
Hong Ling clarified the situation and understood the intentions of those sects, feeling somewhat disheartened. The extent of their schemes could be seen from Hong Yulong's few words, not to mention there was someone named Gu Ping bouncing around outside.
Hong Yulong nodded, acknowledging some points that Hong Ling had not considered.
The Feiyuxuzong might not want to find that person named Gu Ping immediately; their decision-making regarding this matter likely coincided with the orders given at Heavenly Gate to seek that item. The purpose was probably to lure them out and then strike swiftly.
But why wouldn’t they just take the item themselves?
Hong Yulong was completely thrown off by Hong Ling's straightforward thinking. He pinched Hong Ling's little nose and said, "I won't overthink this. What does it mean to lure them out? If they were to take the item to Five Great Gates, would the forces of light actively come out to snatch it? If they hide away like turtles, how could they possibly come out and fight with Five Great Gates for their lives?"
So that item must be kept with that person named Gu Ping. What they need to do now is find him, and just like those Eye Lines following that escort, wait for the forces of light to reveal themselves.
Then they can strike decisively.
As he spoke, Hong Yulong made a fist gesture, as if he intended to catch all the people of light in one net.
"Young Master, Miss, it's time," came the voice of the coachman from outside.
Hong Yulong swung his leg and dismissed the spell, pulling a piece of silver from his pocket and handing it to the Old Coachman. The Old Coachman expressed his gratitude repeatedly, and only after Hong Yulong gestured for him to leave did he finally depart, still muttering words of thanks.
The young apprentice at the Blacksmith Shop noticed someone approaching and quickly greeted them. "It's quite late; may I ask what you two are looking for?"
"Where's our boss? Tell him to come out; we have some questions," Hong Ling said arrogantly, addressing the Little Blacksmith.
"That young lady, our master has not been feeling well lately and doesn't wish to—"
Before the Little Blacksmith could finish his sentence, Hong Ling pulled out her whip and struck it down with a loud crack. The sudden sound startled the Little Blacksmith so much that he swallowed his words and hurried off to fetch the Old Blacksmith from the back room.
