Chapter Sixty-Three: Bai Luo's Self-Sufficient Talisman Plan
The night’s farce ultimately ended with Natasha taking Elena away, while Lorna settled into the room next to Bai Luo.
Even Magneto himself probably never anticipated that his visit to Bai Luo would lead to so many unforeseen events.
Bai Luo was no pushover either. After Elena revealed Coulson's name, he called that guy later that night.
Coulson seemed to be in the middle of a mission when he answered the phone, saying, "You better make it quick; I have work to do."
Bai Luo confidently replied, "Who are you looking to trouble? Just give me a name, and I can have him take care of himself in minutes."
Coulson responded, "So it’s true that Obadiah Stane's mental breakdown is because of your interference?"
Bai Luo swiftly changed the subject as if their previous conversation had never happened. "I heard you lured a Planet Daily reporter to give me an exclusive interview?"
This statement was effective; Coulson's attention was immediately diverted. He chuckled awkwardly and said, "I think you two are old acquaintances from over twenty years ago. You should have plenty to talk about."
Bai Luo remarked, "I've already figured it out, so there's no need for you to keep wasting this girl's time, right?"
Coulson hadn’t expected Bai Luo to let the matter slide and instead offered him an easy way out. After thinking for a moment, he said, "I'll send her home right away, but I can tell she really likes your type of superhero."
Bai Luo replied, "Should I thank you for that?"
This time, Coulson didn’t pick up on Bai Luo's banter; his tone became slightly serious. "The Bald Boss from Ten Rings has escaped—there are Hydra's shadows behind this organization. His breakout is definitely connected to those lunatics at Hydra."
Bai Luo said, "Looks like Howard Stark is going to have some trouble again."
"Coulson said, 'I think he should be able to handle it himself this time.'"
Bai Luo smiled slightly, said nothing more, and hung up the phone.
At last, it was completely quiet here. He exhaled deeply, stood up, and walked to the window of the hotel.
This was a large hotel in Washington, and he was staying on the thirteenth floor.
He stood by the window, gazing out at the dim night sky, as if he could see the endless expanse of stars from this corner.
...
...
Coulson's efficiency was quite poor.
Early the next morning, Bai Luo was jolted awake by a knock on the door. The reporter lady stood outside, her expression earnest as she said, "Exclusive interview."
Lorna, who lived next door to Bai Luo, leaned against the wall in a black tank top, watching the two with an amused expression. Unbeknownst to her, passersby were glancing at her.
Bai Luo didn't even look at Lorna. He said, "How about this? I know Tony Stark. Do you want to interview him?"
Elena Landon shook her head resolutely, her golden hair shining like sunlight in the dimly lit hallway. "Exclusive interview with the Eastern superhero after Captain America."
Lorna couldn't help but laugh out loud. It seemed that this girl finally noticed the gazes directed at her. Lorna was never one to feel shy; she shot back fierce glares at anyone who looked at her with ill intent.
Lorna exuded an air of a natural queen; when she shot a glance at the crowd, everyone felt a pang of guilt and instinctively avoided her gaze.
Bai Luo, however, felt a bit of a headache. It suddenly dawned on him that because of his interference, the plot of Iron Man had already changed. Tony's Iron Man Suit was indeed created, but it had been rendered useless due to Bai Luo's meddling.
In the first Iron Man movie, there were only two villains: the Bald Boss from the Ten Rings and Tony's unscrupulous uncle, Obadiah Stane. The former was captured on the spot, while the latter was driven insane by Mizumura Memeko. Even S.H.I.E.L.D. had only glimpsed the infinite potential of Tony's Iron Man Suit; its combat capabilities were still under consideration.
At this point, Tony wasn't yet a true superhero, and Elena, the fangirl, clearly was only interested in superheroes.
Bai Luo watched the two for a moment before letting out a quiet sigh. "How about we grab a meal together?" he suggested.
His words were directed at both of them, and their reactions were starkly different. Elena's face lit up with excitement, while Lorna merely scoffed and said, "I'm heading back to New York today."
Bai Luo replied, "You can go back to New York; I won't stop you. But you can't go alone. Either Logan or someone else needs to pick you up, or I'll take you back when I have some free time. Right now, life isn't easy for mutants in this world, and I don't want my fiancée getting snatched by some anti-mutant organization on her way home."
Lorna found the first half of his statement somewhat agreeable, but the latter half elicited another disdainful expression from her. After thinking it over, she ultimately chose not to respond further.
Elena chimed in, "You already have a fiancée? Is she a mutant?"
Bai Luo fixed his gaze on her. "Less asking and more observing."
Elena quickly nodded in agreement.
With that said, Bai Luo began to walk away with two beautiful women by his side, causing heads to turn as his popularity soared. The two women had strikingly different qualities—one with dark green hair and the other with golden locks—complementing Bai Luo's laid-back demeanor in a way that attracted attention from all directions.
However, Elena's hopes for an exclusive interview with Bai Luo were dashed; despite his chatter, he offered no useful information. He rambled on about various topics that had nothing to do with his own life experiences.
Lorna was much quieter, but she realized that Bai Luo's invitation for the two of them to go out for dinner was a pretense; the real reason was for shopping.
Bai Luo stepped onto the street, buying various types of paper, ink brushes, and even some pig's blood and duck's blood.
Bai Luo wasn't quite sure what kind of talismans could be drawn with what kind of ink and brushes. There were guides for drawing talismans online, but there were too many mixed options. If Bai Luo were to try them all, it would be nearly the same as just buying all kinds of paper and ink and testing each one individually.
However, the System did have guides for drawing talismans, but unfortunately, they were extremely expensive. The lowest tier version cost five thousand points, and the System's intelligence level was quite low. Even if Bai Luo wanted to negotiate with the System, he had no opportunity to do so and could only honestly try things out in a clumsy manner.
Nevertheless, his actions piqued Lorna's curiosity. Finally, she couldn't help but ask, "Are those talismans of yours drawn using these materials?"
Elena shared her curiosity—could a Talismancer's talismans really be made from such ordinary items? Paper, ink, brushes... this truly was an Eastern approach.
In response to Lorna's question, Bai Luo smiled and said, "Yes, I'm planning to create a talisman that can counter your and Magneto's abilities so that I can smoothly take you home."
Lorna shot him a fierce glare.
