Chapter 56: Interview with the Reporter
The S.H.I.E.L.D. indeed reimbursed expenses.
For this, Bai Luo was quite pleased; S.H.I.E.L.D. was truly a considerate organization that cared for its employees.
Natasha had been on a mission for a month, and Bai Luo's wish to have a candlelit dinner with her naturally fell through. Meanwhile, Tony was caught up in a whirlwind, likely embroiled in a fierce struggle with his uncle, Obadiah Stane. If Bai Luo went over now, he would probably end up with no food and a heap of trouble instead.
During this month, however, Bai Luo had not been idle. He had thoroughly mastered the Palm Thunder Talisman; he could draw it effortlessly, even in his dreams. The other talismans, while not as exaggerated, were also at a level where he could draw them with ease. After all, during this month, Bai Luo had focused solely on practicing these simple talismans. If he couldn't reach this level, he might as well not have crossed over at all.
At the same time, Bai Luo began researching the talisman paper he had exchanged from the System. He roamed various areas of Washington, searching for ways to obtain talisman paper without using points.
In addition to this, Bai Luo's name was spreading in ways he never imagined. Following Captain America, it seemed that people of this era were quite fond of the "returning after many years" trope. After Tony Stark exposed Bai Luo as the hero who once saved Kansas City, the world that had almost forgotten him was once again stirred by a wave of enthusiasm for Bai Luo.
In just one month, people didn’t even know what the grown-up Bai Luo looked like, yet his reputation had already become resounding. Even his self-proclaimed title of "Talismancer" seemed to have spread without him realizing it. With the name Talisman attached to him, people came up with all sorts of chaotic nicknames.
Bai Luo felt quite embarrassed when he saw on television that people had even established a "Talismancer Fan Club" for him.
Bai Luo felt exasperated.
On the mutant front, however, good news arrived: Logan and his team had rescued the professor and the students successfully. Charles brought Bai Luo some truly good news: Bai Chu had indeed been taken away by someone.
Charles valued Bai Chu highly and noted her exceptional gifts. Therefore, when she was in danger at Silent Ridge, Charles had been keeping an eye on her. However, due to some reasons that even Charles did not understand, his psychic powers were severely disrupted at Silent Ridge, making it difficult for him to observe the situation clearly. He only knew that Bai Chu was definitely not dead but had been taken away by someone in a spaceship.
Charles was not quite sure who or what exactly it was.
However, this news was already good enough for Bai Luo. Of course, the situation on the mutant side was not so favorable.
Strucker was dead, but Phoenix had been swallowed by the raging waters that surged in when the dam collapsed while trying to save everyone.
Bai Luo was somewhat surprised; the plot of the movie had already changed. Strucker had fallen into the hands of the mutants earlier, and Laser Eye had died twenty years ago in distant Kansas City, just as he had become an X-Man. Despite this, Phoenix Girl Jean Grey still went missing according to the original storyline.
Bai Luo understood that when she returned, she would come back as the world's only Level Five mutant, which meant a significant upheaval in the mutant world.
Bai Luo couldn't help but feel a headache coming on. He had subtly reminded Charles a couple of times during their conversation, and Charles had hurriedly interrupted their mental exchange.
The Mutant School had just undergone a major upheaval, and Charles had his hands full. It was already quite considerate of him to take time out of his busy schedule to discuss Bai Chu with Bai Luo.
Bai Luo shook his head, briefly pushing these matters aside. Just then, he suddenly heard a knock on the door.
Bai Luo initially thought it might be Nick Fury or Coulson coming to see him again. Recently, Coulson had been visiting him often, sometimes to fill out some random forms and other times just to bring him food.
Coulson was a pretty good guy, and he never hid that his intention in being nice to Bai Luo was to help S.H.I.E.L.D. get a better understanding of Bai Luo's secrets.
Of course, as time passed, their relationship began to resemble that of friends more and more.
However, this time Bai Luo was caught off guard.
It was not anyone he had expected.
However, when Bai Luo saw the person, his eyes couldn't help but brighten slightly, for the newcomer was a beauty.
She was a Caucasian woman, with delicate features, bright eyes, and red lips that opened and closed slowly with her breathing. She looked like a princess who had stepped out of a storybook, only dressed in modern attire, which gave her an entirely different kind of beauty.
Then Bai Luo's gaze shifted downward, where he noticed a press badge hanging from her neck, displaying a name that felt somewhat familiar to him.
Elena Landon.
The beauty spoke first, "Do you remember me? We were the Talisman Hero."
Bai Luo's lips curled slightly as he replied, "Although everyone has nicknames that sound like what they are, why does 'Talisman Hero' sound so awkward?"
After muttering his thoughts under his breath, he paused and added, "Of course I remember you. It seems... you really have become a reporter."
"Yes! I work at Planet Daily now. Louis took me under her wing for a while; she's such a wonderful person. Oh, by the way..." Elena appeared somewhat excited, a faint blush rising on her cheeks. "Can I interview you? I've always regretted not doing an exclusive interview when you stayed overnight at my place... Do you know how long it took me to find your location? I..."
"Bang!"
Bai Luo decisively shut the door.
An exclusive interview? Perhaps another time.
Outside the door, Elena was momentarily stunned.
However, Bai Luo clearly underestimated the enthusiasm of the Planet Daily Reporter for conducting an exclusive interview with him. For quite a while after that, whenever Bai Luo stepped outside, this person would pop up from who knows where, eager to secure an exclusive interview. No matter how much Bai Luo refused, her fervent journalistic spirit could not be extinguished.
She was practically like a fangirl.
Meanwhile, Sadako repeatedly murmured in Bai Luo's mind, "Should I kill her?"
Upon hearing this, Bai Luo remained indifferent, but Mizumura Memeko perked up and eagerly suggested, "Should I give her a call?"
Bai Luo found himself at a loss for words when faced with these two who could casually talk about murder while still acting cute and cool afterward.
Just then, Tony called.
