Chapter Fifty-Three: Trident Headquarters
In response to Tony's words, Bai Luo offered a rather bright smile and said, "It's not for public knowledge, but I sell talismans. The ones I have here are powerful and diverse—everything from light-emitting ones, lightning-striking ones, to trickster ones, and fireball throwers... Whether it's for exorcising evil spirits or enhancing performance... whatever you can think of, I guarantee I have it."
To be honest, Tony was a bit taken aback. The transformation of this Master Bai's image was quite remarkable. Fortunately, he was a free-spirited guy himself. After a moment of thought, he chuckled, "For me, everything is negotiable; the only thing that's not an issue is money."
Bai Luo bluntly stated, "I happen to be short on cash."
The two exchanged glances and then burst into laughter. Meanwhile, Rhodes approached them, feeling somewhat unnerved by their smiles. He stood beside them and glanced at Bai Luo, saying, "This... Talismancer, although you helped us defeat the Ten Rings' Terrorist Organization, you might still need to come with us."
Bai Luo was somewhat surprised. "You don't know who I am?"
Rhodes looked even more astonished. "What?"
Bai Luo glanced at Tony and leaned slightly closer to Mr. Rhodes. "S.H.I.E.L.D."
At that moment, Rhodes' expression subtly changed.
However, Bai Luo had already begun to step back. He shrugged at Mr. Rhodes and said with a smile, "Don't worry; there's no need for me to lie about this matter. You will likely receive a notification soon. And Mr. Tony—I look forward to our dinner together, but not right now. I have a few important matters to attend to first; I must take my leave."
With that, Bai Luo took off. Internally calling out to Sadako, she immediately lifted Bai Luo's body into the air and shot toward the aircraft parked in the distance of the desert—where Natasha had long been waiting.
Sadako was in a ghostly state and was parasitically residing within Bai Luo's body; as he soared upward, it appeared to them that Bai Luo was flying entirely on his own.
Rhodes swallowed hard, thinking about the mystical Eastern techniques of flying and transforming talismans into weapons—this guy...
Tony waved goodbye to Bai Luo with a cheerful demeanor, showing no signs of having just escaped from life-threatening danger. However, as he watched Bai Luo ascend into the sky, his gaze inevitably shifted toward the wreckage of his original suit of armor, his eyes gleaming with anticipation.
Sadako's short-distance flight speed was incredibly fast. As one of the strongest Vengeful Spirits in horror films, she could cover several kilometers in less than a minute.
Indeed, Sadako had decided to stay by Bai Luo's side to repay him for the twenty years he had lost for her. Although she usually appeared quite cold and silent, now, whenever Bai Luo had a request, she would respond without hesitation.
Natasha had been waiting for a long time. Watching Bai Luo descend from the sky, she couldn't help but half-mockingly comment, "That entrance is quite stunning."
Bai Luo smiled and pulled out a handful of White Rabbit Candy from his pocket, handing it to the beautiful woman with wine-red hair in front of him. He said with a grin, "Would you like some candy? This is Talisman Candy; it has miraculous effects like prolonging life and curing ailments."
To Bai Luo's surprise, Natasha actually accepted the candy from his hand. She laughed and said, "While I don't really believe these candies have such magical effects, once you become famous, I might be able to make a fortune off these White Rabbit Candies."
Bai Luo thought to himself that this White Rabbit Candy was produced by the System—one of a kind, genuine and rich in milk flavor.
Of course, he wouldn't say that out loud. Instead, he took a few steps forward and said, "Perfect! I've been wanting to have a meal with you. Do you have time tonight?"
Natasha glanced at him and replied, "Sure, but not tonight. I need to take you back to Trident Headquarters before heading out on a mission. Let's plan for another day—also, you'd better tell me who that sniper lying in the sand is."
Natasha's attitude towards Bai Luo was surprisingly good, but he knew this wasn't due to his aura as a traveler; it was likely Nick's intention to have Natasha get closer to him and uncover the secrets he held.
In this world, beauty was something that anyone found hard to resist.
Although Bai Luo recognized this dynamic, he had no intention of breaking it. Instead, he actively invited Natasha out. After all, as a traveler, he was somewhat familiar with Nick and Black Widow. Unless it was something Bai Luo wanted to disclose himself, they would hardly be able to extract any information from him.
The return journey went smoothly. S.H.I.E.L.D. possessed the most advanced technology in the world. As Bai Luo chatted with the delightful Natasha along the way, time flew by quickly until they soon arrived at S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Trident Headquarters.
By this time in America, night had already fallen.
Bai Luo remembered Trident Headquarters from the second Captain America movie where it was completely destroyed during a major battle.
His eagerness to reach S.H.I.E.L.D. had its reasons; although Nick Fury had told him that Bai Chu was likely just taken off Earth, he couldn't truly relax until he personally reviewed S.H.I.E.L.D.'s files. Only then would he feel completely at ease.
Nick Fury was clearly aware of the reason for Bai Luo's urgent return. He had already arranged for someone to wait for Bai Luo's arrival at Trident Headquarters, and that person was none other than Coulson, whom Bai Luo recognized.
Coulson didn't look much like a spy; rather, he resembled a well-meaning character from a family comedy. Yet it was precisely this kind of person who possessed an innate charm, making it difficult for anyone to feel annoyed with him at first glance.
Natasha indeed had her own mission, and as soon as she returned Bai Luo, she left once again.
Coulson was quite courteous to Bai Luo. He smiled and said, "I've heard about the incident in Kansas City back in the day. In a sense, you are the first non-mutant level hero since Captain America. I consider myself a bit of a fan—though I have to ask, where have you been for the past twenty years?"
Bai Luo shrugged and replied, "What if I told you I went nowhere and just slept for twenty years? Would you believe me?"
"I would," Coulson smiled back, displaying a unique sharpness characteristic of agents. "According to the accident report of the plane crash you were on, your aircraft was attacked and went down—meaning there's a strong possibility that remnants of the terrorists you eliminated in Kansas City found you, and you were severely injured in the fight, forcing you into hiding for two decades."
