Chapter Fifty-Two: Is This Your Skill's Secret Transmission?
Tony Stark felt as if he were dreaming.
Being captured by the Ten Rings Organization was one thing, and being targeted by a strange person with a sniper rifle from thousands of meters away was another... But now, an Easterner descended upon the sands of Afghanistan, shrouded in clouds that blocked out the sun, effortlessly taking down the Ten Rings terrorists amidst a hail of bullets. The most astonishing part was that this person could raise a piece of yellow paper and instantly summon thunder or flames, completely overturning Howard Stark's understanding of the world.
However, Tony remembered the last words he had heard from this man over the phone.
"I am a Talismancer."
In any other place or scenario, if someone had spoken to Tony in such a serious tone, he would have laughed until he bled.
Yet at this moment, Tony couldn't muster a laugh.
The situation was even smoother than Bai Luo had imagined. The Ten Rings members were quickly overwhelmed, retreating in panic under the leadership of their bald-headed chief. They dared not truly challenge the military, especially after Bai Luo's appearance; having confirmed there was no chance to reclaim Tony, they decisively chose to withdraw.
Rhodes and his military team soon grasped the situation as well and ceased their attacks on Bai Luo. Rhodes himself was quite shaken—anyone would be unsettled seeing the clear sky suddenly turn overcast and witnessing an invulnerable figure descending from above.
In fact, this was also the sentiment among other soldiers. Although the battle had ended and even the thick clouds in the sky had dispersed, everyone looked at Bai Luo with a mix of awe and fear.
At this point, Tony Stark had once again returned to the embrace of the U.S. government, completely safe.
The system prompt sounded almost instantaneously.
[Mission Objective: Ensure Tony Stark's safety.]
[Mission Reward: 8 points of Old White Rabbit Candy Points, three pieces of Old White Rabbit Milk Candy have been credited.]
[Current mission completed.]
At eight o'clock, the points were credited, but Bai Luo's balance was only a meager 87 points.
Bai Luo's earlier impressive display was not something he conjured out of thin air; this world does not bend to a few dramatic lines. In that recent battle, Bai Luo had nearly exhausted all his remaining points.
The "Cloud Talisman" he used, which existed for only a short time, was worth One Thousand Points, and the subsequent lightning strike that spanned several kilometers was a Fire Attribute Talisman valued at five hundred points. The rest consisted of numerous relatively low-cost Palm Thunder and fire talismans.
Of course, the descent he made was thanks to Sadako. Although she couldn't carry Bai Luo around the world, covering those few thousand meters was no problem for someone like her; she could even reach it in an instant.
Bai Luo's actions were not merely for show; the Chatty Sniper had created an opportunity for him.
There were military personnel, S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, and even Tony Stark, the future Iron Man, present. There was also the Ten Rings organization, which might have Hydra support. Bai Luo's appearance and actions were undoubtedly a bold declaration of his existence.
When he acted in Kansas City, he did not hide his intentions. Whether ordinary people knew about him was unimportant; what mattered was that the various forces in this world recognized his presence and acknowledged his power.
Unfortunately, after twenty years of sudden coma following the events in Kansas City, Bai Luo had no time to prepare anything. Although he eventually gained Sadako as a capable ally, there were still losses alongside the gains.
Thus, the more astonishing his entrance was, the more attention he would receive. By openly revealing himself, he prevented unnecessary speculation from arising. His phone call with the sniper might have sounded like bravado, but only Bai Luo knew that he was actually trying to prevent that guy from taking a shot at him or Tony. That guy might not be a good person, but his marksmanship was top-notch; a shot from over a thousand meters away could be lethal.
From the current situation, it seemed that Bai Luo had achieved his goals.
The U.S. Military and Tony were both impressed by him, while members of the Ten Rings Organization fled in disarray. S.H.I.E.L.D. likely no longer questioned their own capabilities; even the Phone Booth Killer chose to temporarily retreat.
Not far from where the aircraft was located, Natasha watched as the mysterious sniper walked silently toward the sandy expanse, clearly intending to "disappear" without a trace.
Natasha hesitated for a moment but ultimately decided against taking action against the enigmatic assassin. Instead, she furrowed her brow and glanced in Bai Luo's direction before turning around and entering the aircraft behind her to report the situation to Nick Fury immediately.
Upon hearing Natasha's report, Blacklight Nick Fury also frowned slightly. He pondered aloud, "A Talismancer? Talisman... I know about them; it's a form of Eastern mystical arts, but..."
"But according to our records and investigations, the abilities attributed to Talismans should only exist in Eastern mythology. Yet from what we see now—his Talisman possesses real power at this moment," Natasha said as she gazed out of the aircraft window toward the distant horizon.
On the other side, Tony Stark was reveling in the joy of survival and a sense of rebirth. He was helped up from the ground by Rhodes, exchanged a few words with him, and then approached Bai Luo. He looked him up and down and said, "An Eastern Talismancer... cool. I really appreciate you saving my life from the Ten Rings and that crazy Chatty Sniper who popped up out of nowhere."
"I definitely owe you a nice meal—by the way, I still don't know your name."
Bai Luo replied, "Bai Luo."
Tony straightened his expression slightly and said, "I'm Tony Stark, heir to Stark Industries. If you need anything, I should be able to help you. What I mean is... we could be friends."
Bai Luo smiled and said, "In that case, why not start by arranging a few million dollars for me?"
They exchanged glances and both laughed. Bai Luo added, "Your armor is impressive; with some modifications, it could be even better."
This was exactly what Tony wanted to do next. He nodded slightly and asked, "By the way, Master Bai, can your skills be taught to others?"
