Chapter Fourteen
Muscular, robust, with perfect regenerative abilities and an adamantium skeleton.
His entire life has been a series of battles and confusion, yet he is a true warrior, a man in every sense of the word.
He is Logan, Wolverine.
Bai Luo certainly did not expect to encounter such a legendary figure at this moment and place.
The great advantage of traversing the Marvel Comics universe is that you can have a conversation face-to-face with numerous heroes.
Bai Luo navigated through the chaotic crowd in the bar, moving closer to Logan. However, he did not give up on searching for Sadako's whereabouts. Mizumura Memeko's tracking ability was not much help at this moment—she could only vaguely confirm that Sadako was indeed in this bar and had not moved.
She could be hiding anywhere, but Bai Luo's gaze remained primarily fixed on several televisions in the bar. Given Sadako's nature, even if she were hiding, she would likely be concealed within those screens.
Bai Luo briefly scanned his System Mall and found several items capable of instantly eliminating ghosts in a specific area or forcibly driving them out. However, Bai Luo did not intend to use them. Firstly, these talismans were high-level items; redeeming one would mean depleting his already limited points. Secondly, after pursuing Sadako for some time, Bai Luo had come to understand that the current version of Sadako in this world was likely in a state similar to Mizumura Memeko—experiencing some form of amnesia and confusion.
This was easy to judge. Based on Bai Luo's impression of Sadako's methods and grievances, she should have acted decisively back at that private villa, cursing everyone present on the spot.
Yet this version of Sadako, while powerful, fled at the first sign of trouble. When that Major smashed the television, she turned and ran; even with a rope meant for binding spirits in hand, she was frightened enough to bolt…
Given this situation, as a proud and great traveler, it felt almost wrong for Bai Luo not to capture Sadako—he would be letting down the vast community of fellow travelers.
For this reason, he exchanged for a rather binding-style talisman rope, planning to tie Sadako up like a twisted dumpling. Then he and Mizumura Memeko would work together to subdue her and make her one of their own.
Well…
In summary, this was Bai Luo's plan.
However, encountering Logan was indeed quite surprising for Bai Luo. After thinking it over, he squeezed through the crowd and pulled up a chair next to Logan. "Logan?" he said.
Logan took a slow breath, then turned his head to glance at the child who had called his name, looking somewhat surprised that it was a kid.
Surrounded by empty bottles, there was little sign of drunkenness in his eyes. His face was covered in wild stubble, and his hair resembled that of a true wolf, especially his eyes, which glinted sharply in the darkness.
Logan looked at Bai Luo and exhaled, shaking the bottle in his hand. "Do I know you?"
"No," Bai Luo replied, "but I know you."
The bar counter was high, but Logan's imposing stature matched it. Bai Luo climbed up, feeling quite awkward.
However, Bai Luo rarely showed such maturity and composure; despite being just nine and a half years old, he managed to appear somewhat serious.
To Logan, this expression seemed amusing. He responded casually, "Oh, really?"
Then the burly man lifted his bottle again and began to drink noisily.
Logan's self-healing ability could negate the long-term effects of alcohol and tobacco, meaning he could indulge without worrying about the negative consequences.
"Yes," Bai Luo continued undeterred by Logan's demeanor. He smiled and added, "I also know... you have amnesia."
Even Bai Luo was slightly taken aback by his own words as he suddenly realized that several people he had encountered—from Mizumura Memeko to Sadako and now Logan—seemed to share this trait of amnesia.
However, this statement felt rather confrontational to Wolverine.
Though Bai Luo was a fan of Logan, it didn’t mean he intended to approach this legendary mutant in a submissive manner for their first interaction.
It was this very remark that made Logan set down the empty bottle he had just drained and turn around. The intensity in his gaze sharpened as he looked at the child with Eastern features sitting so close to him.
Bai Luo remained calm. He smiled and said, "You don't have to look at me like that. I really did hear about your amnesia, but I’m not sure what kind of situation it is or what memories you've lost. And look at me—I'm just a little kid. I just wanted to confirm whether you are indeed Logan."
For Logan, recovering his memories was a part of his life; the memories he had lost affected him and were changing him.
"Now you've confirmed it?" Logan slightly turned his head, casually pushing aside a woman who had leaned in too close. He shouted to the bartender behind the counter, "Get me two more bottles."
Bai Luo glanced over and said, "I confirmed it; it's definitely Logan. Drinking is as easy as drinking water—if you get the chance, you should try Lao Bai Gan in China."
"I've had it; baijiu... it's pretty much like alcohol, but... it's quite an experience." Logan took the bottle from the waiter and turned his head back, but his gaze lingered on Bai Luo for just a moment before shifting behind him. However, his words were directed at Bai Luo, "Are you a mutant?"
The bar was dimly lit, and Bai Luo didn't really notice the subtle shift in Logan's gaze. In fact, he replied, "I'm not exactly a mutant, but I'm not an ordinary person either."
Bai Luo paused for a moment, building suspense before continuing, "Have you ever seen a ghost?"
"You mean... a spirit?"
"Ghosts and spirits... they're essentially the same thing. In the East, there's a profession dedicated to capturing these entities; such people often possess some special abilities and are known as Exorcists," Bai Luo explained. "And I am one of them. I came here at this moment to hunt down a lost Vengeful Spirit."
Bai Luo's ability to spin tales was impressive; in no time at all, he had conjured up another layer of identity for himself.
