Chapter Ten: The Search 0

Magneto was not a good father, but he had always wanted to be one. 0

Bai Luo played a vague emotional card, which genuinely made Magneto change his mind—when faced with the choice between acting out of impulse and the possibility of having a daughter, he chose his daughter. 0

Regardless, Magneto decided to see if he truly had such a daughter. 0

Lorna Dane. 0

Bai Luo provided him with a location, the setting of the X-Men TV series, but it was in a parallel dimension to the X-Men movie universe. Bai Luo couldn't be sure if Lorna was actually there. 0

Thus, he couldn't guarantee that Magneto would really find his daughter. 0

But Bai Luo had never considered himself a good person; he could maintain a straight face while claiming to know everything, so deceiving a Marvel villain was not an issue. 0

In fact, if Magneto hadn't believed that Bai Luo was also half a mutant, Bai Luo wouldn't have been able to easily convince him. 0

Magneto, while a villain in many senses, was relative. No matter how many years he fought against Charles and the X-Men, despite their countless battles where they had nearly killed each other, neither had ever truly crossed that line. 0

Their goals were the same: to change the status of mutants in human society; it was just their methods that were fundamentally opposed. 0

Therefore, they were both willing to offer enough trust and protection to mutants. 0

And Magneto was not an absolute villain. 0

Magneto wanted to bring Bai Luo along, but Bai Luo politely declined. He said, "Mine is real. Once you find your daughter, why not consider it? We could arrange a betrothal for our children." 0

This remark caused Magneto to leave with a dark expression, taking his people with him. 0

Bai Luo let out a sigh of relief in his heart—what if Magneto ultimately couldn't find anyone in his territory and ended up following him around? If Magneto turned hostile, it would be a self-inflicted disaster. 0

Mystique shrugged at him. At that moment, she wore the face of a stranger, and the gesture combined with her smile had an inexplicable charm. Looking at Bai Luo, she pondered aloud, "You really came to persuade Magneto to change his plans." 0

That statement hit the nail on the head. 0

Bai Luo displayed a mysterious smile typical of a nine-year-old boy who knew nothing. 0

Mystique found herself unable to resist such a smile. She glanced at Bai Luo and said, "You’d better be careful because there are people searching for mutants everywhere for the reason we’re here." 0

"Thanks for the reminder," Bai Luo replied with a smile. He knew his own situation; he was not a mutant at all. Mystique's concern was clearly unfounded. 0

Mystique looked at him again but said nothing more. For someone like her, such a reminder was already quite rare. 0

The owner of this private villa was also a mutant—a wealthy capitalist from Kansas City who had been hiding his identity. He hoped for a change in the status of mutants but wouldn’t do much about it; at most, he would provide some low-risk assistance to them. 0

Thus, although he offered Magneto and his group this villa, he himself was not present here. After Magneto left, it seemed he had no intention of chasing Bai Luo away. 0

Bai Luo certainly didn’t hold back and planned to stay comfortably in this private villa for the night—there was even a color television in the living room. 0

Mizumura Memeko floated out from Bai Luo's body, wandering ghost-like through the empty villa. Wherever she passed, the curtains moved as if stirred by an unseen wind, creating an eerie scene. 0

Bai Luo glanced around, noticing that the light was gradually dimming. Before leaving, Mystique had generously left him a good amount of cash. After wandering around the villa for a bit, he called out to the happily playing Mizumura Memeko, planning to go out and find something to eat. 0

Bai Luo was in high spirits. With Magneto and the others gone, he felt that this mission of his was finally complete. The System rewarded him promptly; the One Thousand Points and White Rabbit Candy had already been credited to his account. 0

However, since the next mission had not yet refreshed, Bai Luo wasn't anxious about redeeming anything right away. One Thousand Points was a significant sum for him at this moment, and he decided to think it over carefully. 0

Yet, Bai Luo couldn't shake off the feeling that the System's missions seemed to be constantly finding ways to deliver points to him. 0

Lost in these thoughts, he reached the front door of the villa but found himself unable to step outside. 0

At that moment, someone began banging on the door with force. 0

Bai Luo opened the door and was met by a group of fully armed soldiers outside, led by a Major. Upon seeing Bai Luo, the Major raised his gun and coldly stated, "We received a report that you are harboring mutants here. We need to conduct a search." 0

Bai Luo was taken aback. "Even if you wanted to say something like that, shouldn't you be talking to someone more important than me?" 0

"We suspect you are also a mutant!" 0

After saying this, the Major forcefully pushed open the door, allowing his squad of soldiers to surge inside. 0

Bai Luo stared at the scruffy-faced Major for a moment before breaking into an innocent smile. "Officer, what are you talking about? I don't understand—what's a mutant?" 0

The Major shot him a cold glance and replied, "You don't need to play dumb with me. Everyone... search!" 0

Bai Luo's plans for going out to eat were abruptly canceled as he watched the dozen or so soldiers thoroughly search every corner of the villa while he complied with their inspections. 0

The expression on the Major's face changed dramatically. When he first entered, he was full of confidence, but soon he realized that in this vast villa, there was not a single person aside from this child. Moreover, the child, who maintained a silly and harmless smile, turned out not to be a mutant at all. At that moment, the Major's face turned ashen. 0

It was absurd; Bai Luo's abilities came entirely from Talisman. He had no connection to mutants whatsoever. The most these people could find on him were a bunch of seemingly useless yellow paper talismans. If they managed to uncover anything else, that would truly be a surprise. 0

Furthermore, with Magneto and the others just having left, this villa was occupied by them. Bai Luo allowed these people to search, fully confident that they wouldn't find anything. 0

Thus, Bai Luo didn't stop them at all. "Search however you like; I'll just smile the whole time. You can laugh yourself to death without any consequences." 0

The Major stood in front of the colorful television in the villa's living room, his face darkened as he looked at the Easterners child and asked, "Where have all the mutants gone?" 0

Bai Luo's smile remained innocent and harmless as he gazed back with genuine curiosity. "Uncle Policeman, I don't know! What is a mutant? Is it a mutated turtle from the sewers? I haven't read much, so please don't trick me." 0

The child’s laughter seemed genuinely innocent, and his words posed no issues. Yet the Major felt an overwhelming urge to smash that smiling face. 0

It was a kind of intangible and insufferable "smirk" that belonged solely to children. 0
