Chapter Four: Can You Follow the Script?
At the same moment that Bai Luo made his move, the Hunched Woman also acted. While everyone's attention was drawn to Bai Luo, she swiftly drew her gun and shot down one of the three men.
The situation flipped in an instant.
Amidst the terrifying, incessant laughter echoing from the phone, the atmosphere in the room turned ominous.
The last remaining man among the trio changed color and turned to flee. However, just as he attempted to escape through the door they had kicked open, it swung shut on its own, slamming directly into his nose and sending him staggering back.
At that very moment, all the lights in the fast-food restaurant began to flicker wildly. The water dispenser and soda machine activated by themselves, but instead of mineral water and drinks, a horrifying stream of blood flowed out.
Bai Luo's face changed drastically as he turned to grab the phone on the table. In his haste, he exerted too much force; while he managed to pick up the phone, he crushed it in his grip.
The sharp laughter suddenly ceased at that moment, and simultaneously, all the lights in the fast-food restaurant went out with a loud snap!
The restaurant was plunged into complete darkness. Someone trembled in the shadows and asked, "What is happening?"
Bai Luo still had the presence of mind to respond. He shouted, "We're haunted!"
Bai Chu stammered, "I-I-I-I..."
Well, she was already at a loss for words.
"Is it a ghost, or some other mutant?" This thought came to Bai Luo in the darkness, and it was undoubtedly that Hunched Woman.
However, before Bai Luo could speak again, a sudden chorus of ringing phones erupted throughout the restaurant. Without anyone answering, that sharp and terrifying laughter echoed once more, chilling to the bone.
Then, a piercing scream pierced the darkness, accompanied by the sound of blood gushing from an artery.
"Bai Luo tentatively called out, 'Sister?'
'I-I-I...'
Very good, that was the incoherent Bai Chu.
Bai Luo felt relieved and took a deep breath, forcing himself to calm down. In this situation, they were clearly trapped in this fast-food restaurant by that Ghost Call's Vengeful Spirit. Any unnecessary actions would hasten their demise. Moreover, Bai Luo had nothing in hand to combat the ghost and had no idea about its origins to resolve the issue at its root...
So... what should he do?
Bai Luo's mind raced. Although this world seemed far stranger than the Marvel universe he had imagined, he didn't want to die inexplicably at the hands of a female ghost, especially one of Loli stature.
At that moment, a second scream echoed from the darkness. Everything went black before Bai Luo as he felt a strange man collapse into his arms, bloodied and clearly lifeless.
It was this dead body that solidified Bai Luo's resolve—regardless of whether there was a way out or not, he needed to stabilize this Vengeful Spirit first.
Since it was a Loli Ghost, then...
"What are you doing?! Just yesterday we were fine with phone calls predicting murders; now it's chaos! Can we follow the script step by step?"
The moment Bai Luo spoke, he felt a chilling darkness suddenly closing in on him. Although he still couldn't see anything, he sensed that a girl with disheveled hair, a pale complexion, and vacant eyes was coldly "staring" at him.
The sharp laughter abruptly ceased, and various faucets began to spew blood like geysers.
Bai Chu trembled as she said, "Bai Luo, can you just say a few less words and not die?"
Bai Luo took a deep breath. He believed this was the only way to resolve the imminent crisis. All vengeful spirits shared a common trait or pattern: "I could easily curse you to death in an instant, but instead, I choose to scare you with ghostly calls or crawl out of the television. I’ll wait until you discover how to break my curse before I come back to directly curse you or possess you."
Moreover, this spirit was a child. Bai Luo even speculated that her straightforward method of killing might stem from her frustration after having her curse repeatedly broken.
A ghost that could feel such embarrassment only meant one thing.
Her resentment might not be that strong.
This might not be an unsolvable horror incident.
After a long silence, it seemed Bai Luo's words had some effect. The dark restaurant suddenly lit up, but the lights were a ghastly red, and the various faucets continued to spew blood. However, the ringing phones of everyone present fell silent at that moment, followed by Bai Chu's phone ringing.
Bai Chu was quite understanding; although she was terrified, she grasped what Bai Luo meant about the vengeful spirit's method of killing—whoever answered the phone would be in trouble. So she reached for the phone on the table.
But Bai Luo reacted faster than she did. Although she was his older sister by circumstance, having taken care of him for seven or eight years, he was a transmigrator with the protagonist template—he wasn't necessarily going to die. If he didn't answer the phone, who would?
He decisively picked up the phone, but on the other end came an incredibly eerie and terrifying voice.
"I want to strangle you!"
Bai Luo's face changed color as he shouted, "Damn it, those who follow the rules are safe, but those who don't end up in trouble..."
But this time, it seemed he was the one in trouble.
Bai Luo was suddenly pushed to the ground, and he felt a cold hand gripping his neck tightly. As it applied pressure, he was instantly overwhelmed by an indescribable sense of terror and suffocation.
He couldn't even touch the ghost, let alone struggle against it.
It appeared that he might be choked to death right there.
Bai Luo's eyelids began to turn pale; it was a rather helpless situation. His points were limited, and ghost-repelling talismans in the System's exchange shop were all quite expensive. The Avoid Ghost Talisman he had exchanged earlier was a one-time use item that had only protected him for one night before losing its effect. If someone else were in his place, they might have already been cursed to death long ago. He had received the System too late.
Just then, he heard a scream. Bai Chu rushed over, her eyes wide with panic as she looked at the nearly suffocating Bai Luo. She was extremely anxious but had no way to help him. In her frantic state, she finally lowered her head and performed... well, artificial respiration.
