Gu Jingchen had to work late that night. Not long after Li Xue left, he ordered takeout. When his assistant Wang came in to ask what he wanted to eat, he replied without hesitation, "Beef noodles."
The assistant Wang paused for a moment. "General Gu, are you really going to have beef noodles again tonight?"
Gu Jingchen's gaze flickered slightly. "Add more cilantro."
The assistant Wang left the room.
Before long, he returned. "General Gu, the beef noodles you ordered have... a lot of cilantro in them."
Gu Jingchen looked at the bowl of green noodles in front of him, his expression darkening. The assistant Wang cautiously observed him. "General Gu, do you still want them?"
Taking a deep breath, Gu Jingchen replied, "Get out."
The assistant Wang silently exited the room.
Gu Jingchen stared at the noodles but couldn't bring himself to eat a single bite. His stomach felt like it was burning.
He narrowed his eyes and picked up his phone to call Li Xue. The phone rang a few times before it was answered.
"Hello?"
Gu Jingchen pressed his lips together. "What are you doing?"
Li Xue hesitated for a moment. "I'm not doing anything."
"What's wrong?"
Gu Jingchen took a deep breath. "My stomach hurts."

By the time Li Xue returned to the Li Family Villa, it was already quite late. The living room was empty except for Li Ling.
Li Xue glanced at her but said nothing and headed straight upstairs.
"Stop!"
Li Xue halted and turned to look at her. "Is there something you need?"
Li Ling stood up and walked over to Li Xue. "Why did you come back?"
Li Xue was taken aback for a moment, then burst into laughter. "This is my family's house. I can come back whenever I want. What does it have to do with you?"
"You..."
Li Ling's face turned pale.
Li Xue smiled faintly. "Li Ling, you've been living in my house for so long. Are you comfortable?"
Li Ling's face turned white. "What do you mean?"
Li Xue sneered coldly. "You're just a child adopted by the Li Family. Do you really think you're the young lady of the Li Family?"
Li Ling swayed slightly, her expression becoming increasingly difficult to bear.
Li Xue huffed and turned to leave.
"Wait a minute!"
Li Xue turned back to her. "Is there something else?"

Suddenly, Li Jin rushed down from upstairs, pushing Li Xue aside and shielding Li Ling behind him.

Li Xue watched Li Jin, feeling a pang of discomfort in her heart.
She pressed her lips together. "Li Jin, what do you mean by this?"
Li Jin glanced at her. "What are you back for?"
Li Xue took a deep breath. "What does it matter to you?"
Li Jin's expression darkened. "Li Xue, this is the Li Family. I don't care whether you come back or not; just don't bully Lingling anymore."
Li Xue laughed coldly. "Am I bullying her?"
She looked at Li Ling, a hint of mockery flashing in her eyes. "Li Ling, you're really something."
Li Ling bit her lip. "Xiaoxue, you've misunderstood."
Li Xue took a deep breath. "Li Ling, stop pretending to be pitiful in front of me. I'm telling you, I won't believe you anymore."
Li Ling's face turned pale as tears fell instantly from her eyes.
"You..." Li Jin grabbed Li Xue's wrist. "What are you doing?"
Li Xue shook off his hand. "What does it matter to you?"
Li Jin narrowed his eyes slightly. "Li Xue, you've changed."
Li Xue paused for a moment but said nothing, turning to head upstairs.
Li Jin watched her retreating figure, his gaze darkening.
Li Ling stood behind him, her expression quite grim.

The next day, Li Xue went out early to meet Zhang Lin. They had agreed to meet at a company.
When Li Xue arrived, Zhang Lin was already there.
"Sorry, I'm late," she said.
Zhang Lin smiled. "I arrived early."
Li Xue pressed her lips together. "Let's get started then."
"Sure."
The two discussed for the entire morning and finally settled on a plan.
At noon, they went out for lunch together.
While they were eating, Li Xue received a phone call.
She took out her phone and saw that it was Gu Jingchen calling.

"Where are you?" he asked.

Listening to the silence on the other end of the line, Li Xue felt her heart race uncontrollably.

After waiting for a long time without hearing Gu Jingchen's voice, she thought he had hung up.
She picked up her phone and saw that the call was still ongoing.
"..." Li Xue frowned, "If you're fine, I'll hang up."
"I'm going on a business trip the day after tomorrow."
"..." Li Xue was taken aback, "What did you say?"
"I'm going on a business trip the day after tomorrow. You should come with me."

Li Xue glanced at the time, "I've finished eating. How about you?"

Li Xue smiled at her and stood up to leave.
Zhang Lin watched her departing figure with a somber expression.

By the time she returned to Li Family Villa, it was already afternoon.
The house was empty except for her.
Li Xue returned to her room, took a shower, and then sat down at her computer to work. She was busy until after seven in the evening, when it had already grown dark outside. Stretching lazily, she got up and left her room.
Downstairs, Li Jin was coming back from outside. He paused slightly upon seeing Li Xue. "When did you get back?" he asked.
Li Xue glanced at him. "I came back in the afternoon."
Li Jin pressed his lips together, not saying anything further. Li Xue walked over to the sofa and sat down, turning on the television. Li Jin changed his shoes and joined her on the sofa.
Neither of them spoke, and the atmosphere felt somewhat awkward. Li Xue looked at Li Jin and asked, "Where are Mom and Dad?"
"They have a social engagement tonight," he replied.
Li Xue bit her lip, choosing not to say anything more. Li Jin glanced at her again. "What about you? Have you eaten?"
Li Xue shook her head.
Furrowing his brow, Li Jin asked, "How come you haven't eaten yet? It's so late."
"I just haven't had the chance to cook," Li Xue replied quietly.
Li Jin frowned slightly. "Don't you order takeout?"
Li Xue shook her head again. "I don't like takeout."
His expression darkened. "Then just wait until you starve!"
Li Xue shot him a look. "Can you even cook?"
Li Jin was taken aback but instinctively answered, "I can't."
Li Xue scoffed lightly. "Then how can you criticize me?"
Li Jin fell silent.
