On the other end of the line, Gu Jingchen's tone was somewhat indifferent. He seemed displeased that she had interrupted his work.
Li Xue paused for a moment before softly asking, "Why didn't you reply to my message yesterday?"
"…," Gu Jingchen replied flatly, "I didn't see it."
"…," Li Xue bit her lip and asked quietly, "You really didn't see it?"
"…," Gu Jingchen said coolly, "Miss Li, if you have nothing else, I will hang up."
"…," Hearing this, Li Xue felt a surge of anger. She said coldly, "What did you call me?"
"…," Gu Jingchen fell silent for a moment before responding softly, "Li Xue."
"…," Li Xue paused again and repeated, "Why didn't you reply to my message yesterday?"
"…," Gu Jingchen replied simply, "I was busy."
"…," Li Xue bit her lip and said quietly, "I was with Liu Wen…"
"…," Gu Jingchen interrupted her, "What did you talk about?"
"…," Li Xue remained silent for a moment before saying softly, "Nothing."
"…," Gu Jingchen didn't respond; he seemed to chuckle.
Li Xue felt uncomfortable hearing his laughter from the other end of the phone. After thinking for a moment, she hung up.
Lying on her bed, she felt a bit restless. Last night, when she left the hotel with Gu Jingchen and got into the car, her expression had instantly turned cold.
The car fell into silence.
Gu Jingchen stared ahead and suddenly asked, "What did you say to Liu Wen?"
"…," Li Xue turned to look at him and replied coolly, "Nothing."
"…," Gu Jingchen glanced at her and remarked, "Your expression is unusual."
"…," Li Xue bit her lip and stayed silent.
Gu Jingchen sighed and took off his coat, draping it over her shoulders.
Li Xue was taken aback and turned to him in surprise, asking, "Aren't you cold?"
“……” Gu Jingchen said lightly, “It’s not cold.”
“……” Li Xue glanced at him and replied softly, “You still have a piece of clothing with me.”
“……” Gu Jingchen looked at her, “Hmm.”
“……” Li Xue paused for a moment and said quietly, “Do you want it?”
“……” Gu Jingchen stared at her, “Are you going to give it to me?”
“……” Li Xue bit her lip and murmured, “Just a convenience.”
“……” Gu Jingchen smiled, “Then I’ll trouble you.”
“……” Li Xue looked at him and said softly, “You don’t need to call me Miss Li, just call me Li Xue.”
“……” Gu Jingchen replied, “You don’t need to call me Mr. Gu either, just call me Gu Jingchen.”
“……” Li Xue was a bit surprised.
She looked at him for a long while before saying softly, “Okay.”
The car stopped under Li Xue’s apartment building.
Li Xue unbuckled her seatbelt and prepared to get out.
Suddenly remembering something, she turned to Gu Jingchen and said, “Should I take off the clothes?”
“……” Gu Jingchen looked at her, “No need.”
“……” Li Xue frowned, “Aren’t you cold?”
“……” Gu Jingchen replied, “I just want to go up and sit for a while.”
“……” Li Xue was slightly taken aback.
She stared at him in silence for a long time before saying quietly, “I’m tired.”
“……” Gu Jingchen smiled again, “I just want to go up and sit for a while.”
“……” Li Xue bit her lip and said softly, “Let’s do it another day.”
“……” Gu Jingchen looked at her, “Are you afraid of me?”
“……” Li Xue shook her head, “No.”
“……” Gu Jingchen asked, “Then what is it?”
“……” Li Xue was silent for a moment before saying quietly, “I’m really tired.”
“……” Gu Jingchen looked at her, “Alright then.”
Li Xue glanced at him before opening the car door and stepping out.
She walked into the apartment and took the elevator upstairs.
Taking out her keys, she unlocked the door, pushed it open, stepped inside, closed the door, leaned against it, and let out a sigh of relief.
She walked over to the sofa, sat down, and picked up a cup of water from the coffee table to take a sip.
Looking out the window, her emotions were somewhat complicated.
She couldn't understand what Gu Jingchen was trying to do. He clearly knew what she had discussed with Liu Wen, yet he still chose to ask. What did he really want?
As these thoughts swirled in her mind, Li Xue picked up her phone and dialed the Li Family's number.
The call connected quickly.
"I want to move out," Li Xue said flatly.
"…." The Li Family was taken aback for a moment. "What happened?"
"…." Li Xue replied calmly, "Chen Li already has a boyfriend; it’s inconvenient for me to stay at home."
"…." The Li Family fell silent for a moment. "Where are you planning to move?"
"…." Li Xue said, "I will find a place on my own."
"…." The Li Family sighed. "Alright then."
Li Xue hung up the phone, got up, returned to her bedroom, changed her clothes, and then grabbed her bag before heading out.
She drove back to the villa, parked the car, and walked through the front door.
In the living room, Chen Li was sitting on the sofa with a worried expression.
Upon seeing Li Xue, she immediately stood up and hurried over, grabbing her arm anxiously. "Xiao Xue, where were you last night? I was so worried about you!"
"…." Li Xue looked at her with cold eyes.
Chen Li felt a bit guilty under her gaze.
She awkwardly released her grip and said softly, "Xiao Xue, what's wrong?"
"…." Li Xue replied, "You shouldn’t contact me anymore."
"…." Chen Li's eyes widened in shock. "What did you say?"
"…." Li Xue looked at her firmly. "I don’t want to interact with you anymore."
"......" Chen Li was momentarily stunned, her eyes instantly reddening.
She looked at her, "Li Xue, what’s wrong? Did I do something to upset you? Just tell me, and I’ll change, okay?"
"......" Li Xue gazed back at her, "You didn't do anything wrong."
"......" Chen Li stared at her, "Then why are you treating me like this?"
"......" Li Xue fell silent for a moment before softly saying, "I don’t want to be your tool anymore."
"......" Chen Li was taken aback, "What do you mean by 'tool'?"
"......" Li Xue looked at her, "You've always been using me to get closer to Gu Jingchen, haven’t you?"
"......" Chen Li's face instantly turned pale.
She looked at her, "How... how did you know?"
"......" Li Xue replied, "In this world, there are no walls that don’t let the wind through."
"......" Chen Li was silent for a moment before saying softly, "Li Xue, you misunderstood. I never intended to use you."
"......" Li Xue looked at her, "You already have."
"......" Chen Li bit her lip and said quietly, "Li Xue, I truly didn’t want to use you. I just... I just like Gu Jingchen too much."
"......" Li Xue looked at her, "If you like him, then go after him yourself. Don’t drag me into it."
"......" Chen Li asked, "Are you angry?"
"......" Li Xue replied, "Shouldn’t I be angry?"
"......" Chen Li sighed, "Li Xue, I really mean no harm."
"......" Li Xue looked at her, "I don’t want to hear this. I don’t want to interact with you anymore. Don’t come looking for me again."
"......" Chen Li watched as tears fell down her cheeks.
She pleaded, "Li Xue, after all these years as sisters, can you really bear to do this?"
"......" Li Xue fell silent for a moment and said softly, "I’m not the person I used to be."
"......" Chen Li looked at her as tears streamed uncontrollably down her face.
Li Xue felt a pang of sadness in her heart as well.
She sighed and turned back to her room.
Closing the door behind her and leaning against it, she felt a heavy weight in her heart.
She knew that the bond between her and Chen Li was over.
She thought to herself, taking a deep breath as she walked to the vanity and sat down, gazing at her reflection in the mirror with mixed emotions.
She didn't know if what she was doing was right. But she knew that if she didn't take action soon, Chen Li would ruin her. She didn't want to be a stepping stone for someone else's ascent.
With that thought in mind, she took out a cotton pad, soaked it in makeup remover, and began to cleanse her face. After removing her makeup, she took a shower and started packing her things.
Opening the wardrobe, she pulled out her suitcase and neatly packed her clothes and skincare products before closing it and placing it by the bed. She looked around the room, feeling a twinge of reluctance. After all, she had lived here for so many years.
With a sigh, she picked up the car keys from the table, turned around, and walked to the door, opening it.
Outside stood Chen Li, looking at her with a sorrowful expression.
Li Xue met her gaze, feeling a heaviness in her heart. "I..."
"Are you really going to move away?" Chen Li asked quietly.
After a moment of silence, Li Xue replied softly, "I'm sorry."
Tears streamed down Chen Li's face as she looked at her.
Feeling a pang of discomfort, Li Xue sighed again, grabbed her suitcase, and walked past Chen Li, striding out the door.
Chen Li stood frozen in place, watching as Li Xue's figure disappeared from view, unable to stop the tears from flowing.
Carrying her suitcase downstairs, Li Xue paused in the living room. She glanced at the furniture and decorations inside, feeling another wave of reluctance wash over her.
Taking a deep breath, she stepped outside the villa, got into her car, started the engine, and drove away.
