At that moment, a tall figure suddenly appeared. "Stop!"
Shangguan Ming was startled and released his grip. I seized the opportunity to break free, stumbling backward.
"Vice Captain Jiang?" Shangguan Ming's voice carried a hint of panic. "What are you doing here?"
The newcomer was none other than Vice Captain Jiang Feng, who looked at Shangguan Ming warily. "I heard someone calling for help. What happened here?"
Shangguan Ming immediately put on a smile. "It's nothing, I was just playing a game with my wife. Right, dear?"
I trembled as I looked at Jiang Feng, wanting to cry out for help, but I was paralyzed by Shangguan Ming's warning gaze.
Jiang Feng frowned, his eyes darting between us. "Madam, are you alright?"
I opened my mouth but couldn't make a sound. Shangguan Ming took the chance to wrap his arm around my shoulders. "She's fine; she's just too excited from the game."
Just then, a violent jolt suddenly struck. I lost my balance and fell backward.
"Linghua!" Shangguan Ming reached out to grab me but missed.
I felt my body lift off the ground before plunging into the icy sea.
The bone-chilling cold enveloped me instantly as seawater rushed into my nose and mouth. I struggled desperately but couldn't surface.
In the darkness, I saw Shangguan Ming standing on the deck, an indescribable expression on his face. Was it fear? Or... relief?
My consciousness began to fade, and all I could hear was the roar of the waves.
Just when I thought everything was coming to an end, a strong arm suddenly grabbed me.
I was pulled out of the water, gasping for fresh air.
"Hang on!" Jiang Feng's voice rang in my ears. "I'm here to save you!"
I clung tightly to his shoulder, tears mingling with seawater. In the joy of being rescued, a terrifying thought suddenly flashed through my mind.
Was this really an accident?
I looked up at the deck, but Shangguan Ming had vanished without a trace.
Jiang Feng pulled me onto the lifeboat and wrapped a blanket around my trembling body. "It's okay now, you're safe."
I met his concerned gaze and suddenly burst into tears. "Thank you... thank you for saving me."
Jiang Feng gently patted my back. "Don't mention it. Luckily, I was right beside you; your husband can't swim."
The lifeboat slowly made its way toward the cruise ship. I clutched the silver chain in my hand tightly, my heart racing as my consciousness faded further.
I woke up from a haze, my vision blurred. Every inch of my body screamed in pain, as if it had been soaked in seawater and then crushed and reassembled.
"You're awake?" A somewhat unfamiliar voice reached me. I struggled to focus and saw Jiang Feng's concerned face.
"I...?" My voice was so hoarse that it surprised even me.
Jiang Feng handed me a glass of water. "You almost..." He didn't finish the sentence, but I understood.
I greedily drank the water, flashes of the moment I fell into the sea rushing back to me. Shangguan Ming's icy gaze, the bone-chilling seawater, the suffocating despair... I couldn't help but shudder.
"Where is Shangguan Ming?" I gripped the cup tightly, my knuckles turning white.
Jiang Feng's expression grew serious. "He claims it was an accident and has already left the ship, but this situation might..."
An accident? I scoffed inwardly. That man, the one I once thought was a devoted husband, had actually wanted my life. If it were truly an accident, why did he run?
"Ms. Zhu," Jiang Feng hesitated for a moment, "there are some things I need to tell you."
He handed me his phone, which displayed a portion of the cruise ship's surveillance footage. As I played it, I felt as if I had plunged into an ice cave.
