"Isn't one box enough for you?"
Leng Fengyang's gaze closely followed A Yan's finger as it lightly touched the transaction button, his expression a mix of disbelief and amusement.
A Yan's cheeks, however, were tinged with a rosy hue as she smirked playfully, "You're a woman; why do you care about me?"
As she spoke, the blush on her face deepened, as if a subtle sweetness filled the air around them.
"You’re the leader; who am I to question you?"
Leng Fengyang offered A Yan a piece of roasted meat, signaling her to take it easy. In that fleeting moment, he realized that his feelings for A Yan had intensified slightly.
Beside them, Luo Shanhe observed their warm yet teasing interaction with a hint of helplessness and embarrassment. He tightened his grip on his sniper rifle and said softly, "You two enjoy your meal; I'll go check the surroundings."
Leng Fengyang keenly sensed Luo Shanhe's subtle emotions and smiled gently. He handed over a colorful cotton coat he had just acquired and said with concern, "It's freezing outside; wear this to keep warm."
Luo Shanhe took the vibrant coat, clearly designed for women, and a nuanced expression crossed his face. Half-jokingly and half-seriously, he remarked, "A-Feng, that buyer called this floral coat 'Goddess Style.' A Yan, don’t you think there’s some misunderstanding about what a goddess is? The buyer's showcase is just too bland."
His words were laced with disdain but also held warmth and acceptance.
"Lao Luo, just bear with it for now and put on this floral coat. Staying warm is better than freezing. If you catch a cold, my skills won't be able to cure you, and you'll suffer."
A Yan took a bite of her roasted meat while casting a teasing glance at Luo Shanhe wrapped in the floral coat, making the scene quite amusing.
A Yan had a point.
Though blunt, her reasoning was sound. Luo Shanhe recognized that his presence might be intrusive to Leng Fengyang and A Yan's tender moments, so he wisely chose to leave with his rifle in hand.
As the warmth from their meal spread through him, the night around them seemed to deepen quietly. Even in this vast glacial world where day and night blurred together, an inner clock reminded him that night was falling.
"A-Feng, with the snowstorm intensifying and the ground covered in thin ice, walking will be unstable. We might need to spend the night in this shelter and wait until dawn," A Yan said with an undertone of concern. Since entering that mysterious town and traversing through desert sands to this frozen world, she had experienced a series of dreamlike time travels that made her acutely aware of the extremes and harshness of survival in an apocalyptic environment; each experience felt like dancing on the edge of a blade—both shocking and heart-stopping.
"Yes, let’s get inside to escape the cold; it’ll be more comfortable in here. Lao Luo should be back soon."
With his usual elegance, Leng Fengyang gently opened the car door for A Yan and carefully adjusted the passenger seat to the most comfortable angle before she settled in gracefully. Afterward, he thoughtfully draped the warm floral coat over her shoulders and said softly, "You rest easy for a bit; I’ll go find Lao Luo and be back quickly."
"Alright, you should wear the floral coat too."
Watching A Yan squint her eyes in enjoyment of this brief sweetness made Leng Fengyang close the car door quietly before stepping into the biting cold wind of the apocalypse.
As he ventured deeper into the glacier, the surrounding snowy landscape grew increasingly desolate and serene, interrupted only by the occasional sound of the wind and the distant calls of unknown birds, breaking the silence.
Leng Fengyang tightened his floral cotton jacket, his sharp gaze scanning the area, fearful of missing any trace left by Luo Shanhe. Just as he passed through a dense cluster of icebergs, a faint cry for help reached his ears. The voice was as delicate as a wisp of smoke, yet it was enough to make Leng Fengyang's heart race.
He immediately followed the sound, crossing an open expanse of ice. The sight before him made his heart tighten; not far away on the icy river, Luo Shanhe was struggling desperately. The ice around him had cracked open in several alarming fissures, as if it would swallow him whole at any moment.
Lao Luo!
Leng Fengyang shouted and rushed toward the riverbank without hesitation. He knew that in this extreme cold, every second of delay could be fatal. As he approached the riverbank, he realized that the situation was far more dire than he had imagined.
The ice was thin and brittle; one misstep could plunge him into the icy waters below. Leng Fengyang took a deep breath and pulled out the blood-stained rebar from his shoulder bag to test the thickness of the ice. He carefully searched for the most solid surface, inching closer to Luo Shanhe step by step.
At that moment, a sudden gust of cold wind swept up the snow on the ground, and the sky darkened ominously, signaling that greater danger was imminent.
Not good—it's an avalanche!
A chill ran down Leng Fengyang's spine as he quickly scanned his surroundings. He noticed thick layers of snow accumulating on a nearby iceberg, sliding down with unstoppable force. There was no time to think; he had to make a decision immediately.
Lao Luo, hold on! I'm coming to save you!
With all his strength, Leng Fengyang leaped forward, landing firmly on the ice not far from Luo Shanhe. He quickly extended the rebar toward him, signaling for Luo Shanhe to grab hold.
Though exhausted, Luo Shanhe managed to grasp the rebar thanks to years of camaraderie and instinct.
Pull tight! Climb onto the ice!
Leng Fengyang urged as he pulled on the rebar while directing Luo Shanhe. Just then, the roar of the avalanche thundered close by; massive snowflakes mixed with rocks and ice surged toward them like an enraged giant.
Gritting his teeth, Leng Fengyang exerted every ounce of strength he had left and finally pulled Luo Shanhe onto solid ice just moments before the avalanche struck.
As they steadied themselves, a deafening roar echoed behind them. The entire icy river seemed shaken by this force; countless ice blocks were swept away in the avalanche, disappearing into the swirling mist.
That was close—we almost bit the dust!
Luo Shanhe gasped for breath, looking at Leng Fengyang with eyes full of gratitude for saving his life.
Leng Fengyang shook his head and said, "Lao Luo, I’m not saying anything bad about you, but your scouting skills are so poor that you could fall into a river. If it weren't for your good fortune, you might have ended up as an offering to the River God."
"With you, a Divine Being, watching over me, the River God probably wouldn’t dare take me," he added with a chuckle.
The two exchanged smiles, supporting each other as they walked steadily toward the area where the tank was parked.
As they turned the corner, they saw A Yan waiting anxiously. Her eyes were filled with worry and anticipation. The moment she saw them safe and sound, tears blurred her vision and rolled down her cheeks.
"You all made it back okay?" A Yan's voice trembled slightly, filled with concern and joy.
"Don't worry, we’re not dead," Luo Shanhe replied lightly, patting his water-soaked chest. "We’re tough enough that even the King of Hell would turn us away."
After saying that, he looked down at his damp floral cotton jacket still dripping water and couldn't help but laugh. "Looks like we’ll need another bonfire tonight—not only to warm ourselves but also to dry our clothes so we can sleep soundly."
With that, the three of them shared a smile, as if all the hardships and struggles of the apocalypse had vanished in that moment.
