As everyone gathered, Long Yong noticed Rao Jie’s pale face and asked, “Is everything alright?” Just as Senior Sister was about to respond, Rao Jie pulled her back, saying, “It’s nothing, I just didn’t sleep well last night.”
“Not sleeping well? Isn’t that because of the place you slept in?” A voice suddenly drifted in from behind.
Rao Jie froze and quickly turned around to see Wu Rong’s frustrated and helpless expression. “I didn’t sleep well either, thanks to someone,” he added.
Was he throwing a tantrum? And was he actually being a bit clingy with her? It was like watching a lion desperately trying to act like a cat, looking displeased yet stretching its neck for a pat.
A smile crept onto Rao Jie’s face, and the gloom left by Chang Fei vanished in an instant. A few students greeted Wu Rong, who lazily responded but perked up when addressing Long Yong.
Long Yong raised an eyebrow in confusion at Rao Jie. When she didn’t react, he realized she hadn’t shared his situation with Wu Rong. Instantly feeling better, he decided to feign concern for Rao Jie in front of Wu Rong to provoke him.
Wu Rong’s reaction was immediate and amusing. By the time everyone set off, his face had turned completely dark.
Rao Jie found it both funny and pitiful. She wanted to explain but felt it wasn’t the right moment or place. She thought she would talk to him later but was surprised to see Wu Rong joining them on their journey.
“Are you going too?” she asked, astonished.
Wu Rong frowned slightly. “I heard it’s a romantic place.”
Rao Jie blinked and quickly translated his words in her mind, realizing Ye Ming must have filled him with some strange ideas to persuade him to go. A romantic place? Did he want to go with her?
She smiled and decided not to say anything more.
Initially, Wu Rong intended to stick close to Rao Jie during the trip, but surrounded by students who were both curious and somewhat intimidated by him, they seized the rare opportunity to approach him. Feeling overwhelmed by the attention, Wu Rong quickly sought refuge near the professors where no one dared bother him.
Still uneasy, he couldn’t help but glance back at Rao Jie frequently to ensure she wasn’t slipping away alone with Long Yong.
Seeing Wu Rong’s behavior, Long Yong couldn’t help but chuckle. “Professor Wu must be experiencing love for the first time; why else would he act so childish?”
Rao Jie felt a bit embarrassed and said, "I guess so. He hasn't been very close to people before."
"Have you told him yet?" Long Yong asked.
Rao Jie knew exactly what he was referring to and replied, "It felt strange to tell him directly. It's not that I was intentionally hiding it; there just wasn't the right moment."
Long Yong nodded and said, "I heard about the elevator incident."
Rao Jie’s expression changed slightly.
Long Yong smiled at Wu Rong, who kept glancing back at them, and deliberately moved closer to Rao Jie, whispering, "Chang Fei is quite proud. She believes that whatever she values must belong to her, which is why she can be so aggressive. But you don't need to take her words to heart. No matter how exceptional she is, Professor Wu wouldn't be interested in someone like her."
"Why not?" Rao Jie suddenly murmured.
Long Yong paused, as if he suddenly understood the reason behind Rao Jie’s hesitation. Even someone like Long Yong, who was already considered outstanding in others' eyes, might seem out of Rao Jie’s league. How much more so for someone of Wu Rong's caliber?
"Because if he were interested, he wouldn't have remained single for so long," Long Yong said with a smile. "Love, you know, if it were all about matching according to others' standards, then we might as well let the government arrange our fated partners."
