Li Lin warily scrutinized the mysterious figure before him, the sudden appearance of Phantom raising his guard. "What exactly is the mission you mentioned?"
Phantom slowly approached a nearby table, his long fingers lightly tapping on its surface. "The Raiders Group has an important stronghold in the southwest that we need your assistance to capture."
"Why should we trust you?" Liya's tone was firm, her eyes filled with skepticism.
Phantom turned, his gaze sharp. "Because we share a common enemy. You need resources and shelter; we need your strength. It's a win-win situation."
Lao Lei couldn't help but interject, "It does sound like a good deal. We do need help."
Li Lin remained silent, gently stroking Xiao Xing's head. The creature emitted a low rumble, seemingly expressing some emotion. Li Lin sensed something unusual; Xiao Xing didn't seem to reject Phantom.
Rick suddenly spoke up, "Wait a minute, I just verified some intel. The Raiders Group is indeed planning a large-scale assault on that stronghold. At least part of Phantom's information is accurate."
This news made the atmosphere tense. Li Lin furrowed his brow, quickly weighing the pros and cons. "If we cooperate, can you guarantee Xiao Xing's safety?"
Phantom nodded. "Of course. We need the Starwing Beast's power, but we will never harm it."
Li Lin took a deep breath, scanning the faces of his teammates. "We need to discuss this."
Phantom gracefully stepped aside, giving them privacy. Li Lin lowered his voice. "Everyone, what are your thoughts?"
"I think it's worth a try," Lao Lei spoke first. "We're in a tough spot and need allies."
Liya's face was still filled with worry. "But we know nothing about her; it's too risky."
"I agree with Liya," Isaac interjected. "We can't trust strangers so easily."
Rick pondered for a moment. "But the information she provided is indeed valuable. Perhaps we can cooperate temporarily while remaining vigilant."
After hearing everyone's opinions, Li Lin's gaze fell on Xiao Xing. Xiao Xing gently nudged his hand, her eyes conveying a hint of encouragement. Li Lin felt a stir in his heart and made a decision.
"Phantom," Li Lin turned to face the waiting mysterious woman, "we accept the cooperation, but with conditions."
Phantom raised an eyebrow. "Go on."
"First, information sharing. We need to know your true identity and purpose," Li Lin stated firmly. "Second, autonomy in action. We reserve the right to withdraw at any time."
"Third," Li Lin paused for a moment, "if you dare to betray us, I will make you regret ever coming to this world."
Phantom remained silent for a moment before suddenly chuckling softly. "Interesting. I accept your terms; you're smarter than I imagined."
Just then, the ground suddenly shook violently, and cracks began to form in the walls as dust fell in showers. Everyone instantly went on high alert.
"Damn it, it's the raiders!" Rick shouted. "They're coming after us!"
Phantom quickly reacted. "Follow me; I know a secret passage."
Li Lin swiftly picked up Xiao Xing, following Phantom and the others as they hurried away. The sound of explosions echoed behind them, and the walls collapsed with a thunderous roar. They ran through the thick smoke, their hearts pounding like drums.
At the end of the corridor, Phantom pushed open a concealed door. Outside lay a desolate wasteland shrouded in night, with the faint glow of raiders' torches visible in the distance.
"We're safe for now," Phantom gasped. "But they'll find us here soon. We need to come up with a plan quickly."
Li Lin surveyed their surroundings, his gaze resolute. "Alright, let's hear your plan." He remained inwardly cautious of Phantom; although this mysterious ally had helped them escape, how trustworthy was he really?
In this apocalyptic wasteland, every choice could mean life or death. Li Lin understood that they were about to embark on an unknown path, and he wondered how this fragile alliance would withstand the storm that was about to come.
