A low voice echoed through the vast underground shelter, causing everyone to halt in their tracks. Li Lin cautiously scanned the surroundings, his finger tightly gripping the trigger. Xiao Xing emitted a low hum, its body faintly glowing.
A tall woman stepped out from the shadows, dressed in black leather, her face mostly obscured by a hood that revealed only a pair of sharp eyes. "I am Phantom. You have something I want."
Li Lin narrowed his eyes, instinctively shielding Xiao Xing. "What do you want?"
Phantom's gaze fell on Xiao Xing. "That Starwing Beast Cub—it's the key."
"Not a chance," Li Lin replied firmly.
Phantom chuckled lightly. "Don't be so quick to refuse, young man. I can offer you shelter and resources if you assist us with a task."
Lao Lei's eyes brightened. "That sounds like a good deal. We could use the help."
Liya frowned. "How do we know we can trust you?"
Isaac interjected, "Phantom, you should know the content of the prophecy. This young man is likely the savior."
Phantom nodded. "Exactly. Our mission is closely related to the crisis in the prophecy. Only by joining forces can we hope to overcome this challenge."
Li Lin struggled internally; on one hand, he yearned for the power to combat the impending crisis, but on the other hand, he was wary of Phantom's true intentions. Xiao Xing seemed to sense his hesitation and gently nudged his hand.
"Give us some time to consider," Li Lin said.
Phantom elegantly nodded. "Of course, but be quick; time waits for no one."
Li Lin turned to her teammates, "We need to discuss this carefully."
Lao Lei eagerly said, "I think we should accept this proposal; it's our best chance."
However, Liya disagreed, "We know nothing about her; it's too dangerous."
At that moment, Xiao Xing suddenly became unusually excited, emitting a series of rapid chirps as it ran toward a corner of the shelter.
"Xiao Xing!" Li Lin quickly chased after it.
Xiao Xing stopped in front of what appeared to be an ordinary wall, scratching at the surface with its paws. Li Lin examined it closely and discovered a hidden switch. She pressed the switch, and the wall slowly moved aside, revealing a secret room.
The room was filled with ancient documents and strange devices. Li Lin picked up a tattered parchment that contained information about the Phantom faction and crucial clues for combating the impending crisis.
Li Lin quickly scanned the documents, her expression growing serious. "This... this is insane."
Liya asked worriedly, "What's wrong?"
Taking a deep breath, Li Lin replied, "According to these records, the Phantom does possess significant power to counter the crisis. But at the same time, they have their own agenda."
Lao Lei asked urgently, "So what should we do?"
After a moment of contemplation, Li Lin's gaze became resolute. "For now, we will cooperate with the Phantom, but we must remain vigilant and be ready for any potential betrayal."
The members of the Squad exchanged glances, ultimately nodding in agreement. Li Lin turned to face Phantom. "We accept your proposal, but with conditions."
Phantom raised an eyebrow. "Go on."
"We want to share intelligence and resources," Li Lin said, emphasizing each word. "Most importantly, we need to know your true intentions."
Phantom fell silent for a moment before chuckling softly. "You're more clever and interesting than I imagined. I accept your terms."
Just then, a violent tremor shook the underground shelter, cracks forming in the walls as dust began to fall from the ceiling.
"Damn it, they're coming!" Isaac shouted.
"Follow me; I know a secret passage," Phantom said quickly.
Li Lin scooped up Xiao Xing and followed Phantom and the others as they hurriedly evacuated. With explosions echoing behind them, they realized that a greater storm was about to unfold.
In this hellish version of Huaguo, danger lurked everywhere, and the situation was ever-changing. A heavy burden pressed down on Li Lin's heart; he wasn't sure if he could bear the weight of being a savior. But at that moment, all he could do was rush into the unknown future with Xiao Xing and his companions.
