Li Lin clenched his fists, his muscles taut with tension. He knew that a more difficult battle was about to begin.
A cold smile crept across Black Blade's lips, a cruel glint flashing in his eyes. "Do you really think you can escape?"
Li Lin instantly became alert, quickly shielding Xiao Xing behind him. His gaze was fierce, fixed on Black Blade. "What do you want?"
"Hand over that beast, and I might consider giving you a quick death," Black Blade's voice slithered like a whisper from hell, echoing through the dilapidated factory.
A chill ran down Li Lin's spine, but his voice remained resolute. "Not a chance!"
Black Blade scoffed dismissively and waved his hand. Several raiders suddenly surged from the shadows, surrounding Li Lin and his group.
Gunfire erupted, bullets whizzing past Li Lin's ears. He quickly crouched down, holding Xiao Xing tightly in his arms.
Liya and Mark fought valiantly against the overwhelming odds, but they were outnumbered. Li Lin watched helplessly as his companions began to falter, anxiety gnawing at him.
Just then, Xiao Xing let out a sharp cry. A faint starlight emanated from it, enveloping Li Lin completely.
Li Lin felt a warm surge coursing through him, as if his strength had doubled. He sprang to his feet and delivered a powerful punch that sent one of the raiders reeling back.
A flicker of surprise crossed Black Blade's eyes, but he quickly regained his composure. "Interesting. I want to see how long you can hold out."
The fierce battle raged on for nearly half an hour. Li Lin and his companions were exhausted, while reinforcements for the raiders continued to pour in.
From his elevated position, Black Blade looked down at the panting Li Lin, a hint of mockery in his voice. "So? Have you made up your mind?"
Li Lin gritted his teeth, a defiant light flickering in his eyes. "I said no way!"
Black Blade's expression darkened instantly. "In that case, don't blame me for being rude."
He suddenly drew his pistol from his waist, aiming it at Liya's head. Li Lin's pupils constricted, and his heart seemed to stop beating.
"I'll give you one last chance," Black Blade's voice was cold as ice. "Hand over the beast, or she dies right in front of you."
Li Lin felt a wave of dizziness wash over him, his mind a tumult of struggle and pain. He knew this was an impossible choice.
At that moment, Xiao Xing suddenly broke free from Li Lin's embrace and ran toward Black Blade. "Xiao Xing! No!" Li Lin cried out in alarm.
Black Blade revealed a victorious smile, reaching out to grab Xiao Xing.
Suddenly, a blinding light erupted. Xiao Xing's body seemed to transform into a dazzling star, illuminating the entire abandoned factory.
The intense brightness forced everyone to shut their eyes. When the light faded, both Xiao Xing and Black Blade had vanished without a trace.
Li Lin stood frozen in place, unable to believe his eyes. "Where's Xiao Xing?"
Liya gently patted his shoulder. "It saved us but was also captured by Black Blade."
A wave of heart-wrenching pain surged through Li Lin as he collapsed to the ground, pounding his fists against the cold floor. "No! Xiao Xing!"
At that moment, a cold voice echoed from outside the factory. "Li Lin, I give you one hour to consider."
The voice of Black Blade reverberated through the empty factory. "In one hour, I will come to collect. If you refuse to cooperate, then the entire Wasteland Watchers will pay the price for your foolishness!"
Li Lin lifted his head, his eyes filled with anger and despair. He knew that a greater storm was about to arrive.
