Li Lin fell to the cold ground of the underground space, carrying Liya and accompanied by Xiao Xing. "Huff... huff..." He gasped for breath, glancing around, his pupils suddenly constricting.
In the vast underground chamber, countless dazzling lights from various instruments flickered, creating a blinding spectacle. A nauseating stench filled the air, and the walls were etched with mysterious symbols, with several enormous cultivation tanks barely visible.
"This is..." Li Lin was too shocked to speak.
Liya weakly lifted her head, her pupils reflecting the eerie surroundings. "Oh my God... could this be... some kind of secret base?"
A serious look flashed in Li Lin's eyes. "It seems we've inadvertently discovered the lair of the raiders."
Suddenly, Xiao Xing emitted a sharp cry, its glow intensifying. Li Lin's heart jolted. "What’s happening?"
At that moment, a deep, hoarse voice echoed in the darkness. "Welcome to my laboratory, uninvited guests."
Li Lin shuddered instinctively, shielding Liya behind him as a tall, thin man in a white lab coat stepped out from the shadows, an eerie smile on his face.
"Who are you?" Li Lin asked warily, his hand unconsciously reaching for his gun holster.
The man elegantly bowed. "Allow me to introduce myself; I am Isaac, the master of this laboratory." His gaze swept over Li Lin and the others before settling on Xiao Xing. "Ah, my dear specimen, you have finally come home."
Li Lin's pupils constricted again. "What do you mean?"
Isaac sneered. "That Starwing Beast is one of my proudest creations. Unfortunately, it was stolen from me back then. I never expected it would come back to me today."
Li Lin felt a surge of anger rise within him. "You madman! How can you do such cruel things to these beasts?"
Isaac waved his hand dismissively. "To create stronger species, sacrifices are inevitable. You foolish humans will never understand my grand vision."
Liya weakly spoke up, "What exactly do you want to achieve?"
A glint of madness flashed in Isaac's eyes. "To create the most powerful beast army and rule this wasteland!" He laughed maniacally. "Once my experiment succeeds, I will become the ruler of the new world!"
Li Lin clenched his fists. "You lunatic, I will never let you succeed!"
Isaac scoffed. "You think you can stop me with just a few ants?" He snapped his fingers, and several massive incubation tanks shattered with a thunderous crash, spilling their contents onto the floor.
Li Lin's eyes widened as he saw enormous, grotesque beasts crawl out from the broken tanks, their bodies radiating an eerie glow and their eyes gleaming with a bloodthirsty light.
"Go, my children!" Isaac commanded with a maniacal laugh. "Tear apart these unwelcome guests!"
Li Lin gritted his teeth. "Liya, can you stand up?"
Liya struggled to lift herself. "I... I can."
Taking a deep breath, Li Lin said, "Alright, let's split up and find an exit. Xiao Xing, stick with me."
Just as the three were about to move, the massive beasts lunged at them. Li Lin pushed Liya aside forcefully. "Run!"
At that critical moment, Xiao Xing suddenly let out a deafening roar, its body radiating a dazzling light that formed an invisible barrier.
The several strange beasts crashed into the barrier, emitting painful howls. Li Lin seized the opportunity to pull Liya along. "Quick, now's our chance!"
The three of them desperately ran deeper into the laboratory, while behind them came Isaac's maniacal laughter. "Run! The farther you go, the better! Let's see how long you can last!"
Li Lin gritted her teeth, a sense of foreboding rising within her. "What other tricks does this madman have up his sleeve?"
