"Why are you back today?" Li Wenguang asked in surprise.
"Xiao Jin is about to take the college entrance exam, so I took a leave to come back and see," Li Xue replied with a smile.
"You...," Li Wenguang was even more astonished. "Aren't you very busy?"
"No matter how busy I am, I have to make time for family," Li Xue said with a smile.
Li Wenguang looked at her, his expression complex.
Li Xue chuckled and walked into the house.
Li Jin was sitting on the sofa watching TV, deliberately pretending not to see her.
"Xiao Jin!" Li Wenguang frowned. "Your sister is back; what kind of attitude is that?"
Li Jin pouted and remained silent.
"Rascal!" Li Wenguang scolded angrily. "Apologize to your sister."
Li Jin still didn't say a word.
Furious, Li Wenguang raised his hand as if to hit him.
Li Xue quickly grabbed his hand and softly said, "Dad, let it go."
"Look at him, he's becoming more and more unreasonable," Li Wenguang said angrily.
"I'm fine," Li Xue shook her head, then turned to Li Jin with a smile. "Xiao Jin, have you eaten?"
Li Jin snorted disdainfully and turned his face away.
Li Xue didn't mind; she smiled again and turned to go upstairs.
She deliberately slowed her pace, counting in her mind: "Three, two..."
Before she could finish counting, Li Jin couldn't hold back any longer. He said sharply, "Where are you going?"
Li Xue stopped and turned to look at him, smiling as she replied, "I have some work to do; I'm going upstairs to get something. I won't be coming back tonight."
"You..." Li Jin said angrily. "You can leave if you want, but you have to make things clear first."
"What is there left to say between us?" Li Xue looked at him bitterly.
"Of course there is," Li Jin replied coldly. "If you leave, I'll be kicked out of the house."
Li Xue sighed helplessly as she walked up to him and softly said, "I'm sorry, Xiao Jin."
Li Jin snorted coldly, awkwardly replying, "You didn't do anything wrong, so why are you apologizing to me?"
"I know you're angry with me," Li Xue said bitterly. "It's my fault."
"At least you know," Li Jin replied coldly.
"I... I will try to avoid you in the future," Li Xue hesitated.
"No need," Li Jin scoffed. "I've already gotten used to it."
"Xiao Jin..." Li Xue looked at him, her eyes slightly red.
Li Jin stared back at her in silence for a moment before taking her hand and pulling her down onto the sofa.
Li Wenguang watched the siblings and smiled before heading upstairs.
Li Xue and Li Jin sat on the sofa without saying a word.
After a long while, Li Jin finally spoke up, "How... how have you been lately?"
"Pretty good," Li Xue replied softly. "And you?"
"I'm doing well too," Li Jin coughed lightly. "You... you and Chen Li..."
"I'll keep my distance from her in the future," Li Xue immediately assured him.
Li Jin snorted again, "I know you too well, Chen Li's loyal shadow."
"I've followed her around for so many years, yet she never treated me like an older sister," Li Xue said bitterly. "On the contrary, you, my only beloved brother, seem to hate me deeply."
"I..." Li Jin awkwardly scratched his nose. "Actually... it's not really hate."
"Really?" Li Xue asked in surprise.
"Yeah," Li Jin nodded uncomfortably.
"Then I can rest easy," Li Xue sighed in relief.
Li Jin looked at her, opening his mouth as if he wanted to say something but hesitated.
"What's wrong?" Li Xue asked curiously.
"You..." Li Jin said softly, "you really won't be with Chen Li in the future, right?"
"Of course not," Li Xue replied with a slight smile. "You are my dearest brother, so I will definitely stay with you."
Li Jin snorted lightly, "Who cares if you stay."
"Is that so?" Li Xue looked at him and blinked. "Then I'm leaving."
With that, she stood up.
"Hey." Li Jin hurriedly grabbed her sleeve. "Don't go."
Li Xue lowered her head and looked at him. "Didn't you say you didn't care if I stayed?"
"I..." Li Jin's ears turned red. He let go of her sleeve and mumbled, "I was just saying that."
Li Xue couldn't help but laugh as she noticed his flushed ears.
He looked like a little kitten with ruffled fur—so adorable.
