A rare tornado struck the Yellow Crane Tower at Huangguoshu School. People from the surrounding areas flocked to the school, curious about how such a massive structure could collapse. The school arranged for several staff members to record the number of visitors, and later statistics revealed that over ten thousand people came to witness the mystery of Huangguoshu's downfall. Classes were temporarily suspended, and some students joined in the cleanup efforts, while others participated in activities to search for the dead cat.
Nearby residents, including Zhiqing's family, were also victims; their homes were instantly reduced to rubble, leaving only bare walls standing. Heavy precast panels were swept away in an instant by the fierce winds, and later reports mentioned that one of these panels mysteriously appeared in an unknown location.
People were not only drawn to see the collapsed Huangguoshu but also for another reason. It was said that the fallen tree had been hollowed out by pesky termites long ago. A white python had also met its unfortunate end, struck by lightning beneath the roots of Huangguoshu.
Inside the Yellow Crane Tower, there was not only a dead cat but also a corpse. According to the hospital director, this person was his long-lost twin brother, who had also studied medicine and had a keen interest in medical science.
Investigators arrived at the scene to conduct a preliminary examination of the body unearthed from the Yellow Crane Tower. They discovered that cancer cells were present in the muscle tissue and were proliferating rapidly. As a hospital known for researching drugs to control cancer cell spread, they found that those who indulged in hedonistic pleasures inadvertently contributed to this evil. Among them were vain young girls engaging with older men, seeking their own desires while inflicting deep emotional wounds on themselves. Unborn babies were conceived within these girls who had yet to reach marriageable age, leading them to seek abortions in hospitals. After months of experiments involving countless repulsive placentas, unfortunately, they did not achieve the desired results.
In subsequent investigations, it became clear that no secret can remain hidden forever; no matter how cunning one is or how well one tries to cover things up, the truth will eventually come to light. The director knew that his twin brother was residing in the Yellow Crane Tower at school and was gravely ill. Fearing death, he engaged in a medical research project using unborn fetuses to concoct an elixir of immortality, feeding stray cats with leftover drug materials to train them to consume carrion.
The director was dismissed from his position, leaving the Yellow Crane Tower as a ruin. With too many incidents occurring at the school, the county education bureau halted recruitment plans. All students were transferred to a nearby junior high school, and teachers underwent careful selection and adjustment for proper arrangements.
"By the way, what happened to that Zhiqing?" Severe Cold helped Sun Meng into a hospital room and asked Ziya with a complex expression.
Ziya smiled gently but did not directly answer Severe Cold's question; instead, she adjusted Sun Meng's pillow as a doctor entered to inquire about her condition. After taking her pulse and setting up an IV drip, he left, and Ziya closed the door.
"Why do you care so much about Zhiqing? Later on, Ziya transferred schools because her family moved," Sun Meng replied weakly on behalf of Ziya.
"Uh... okay! What about Wang Mei?" Upon hearing Severe Cold's question, Ziya nearly spat out her drink; it seemed Severe Cold was addicted to storytelling and wanted more.
Ziya smirked slightly and said, "Teacher Wang was downstairs waiting impatiently when she decided to go to the restroom. There she encountered Cat King, who intercepted her and scratched her, causing her to panic and run wildly until she collapsed in a thicket."
Severe Cold smiled awkwardly and let out a soft "oh," making an excuse to step outside for a smoke, leaving the hospital room.
"Tell me what you want to eat. You're the patient now, and we need to take good care of you," Ziya said, tucking Sun Meng's exposed hand under the covers while teasing her.
"I want a Red Bean Bun. Will you buy it for me?" Sun Meng pouted playfully, masking her fatigue with a charming smile. Her delicate face and playful demeanor made it hard to believe she was currently receiving an IV.
"Okay, I'll go get it for you. Just be good."
"Uh... dear, do you really think I'm a three-year-old child to be coaxed like this?"
"Come on, at this moment, you're still nitpicking? Alright, I'm off to buy it for you." As Ziya spoke, she stepped out of the room and happened to see Severe Cold smoking in the corridor.
"Let's go for a walk," Ziya whispered.
"Hiss, where to?" Severe Cold took a deep drag from his cigarette before extinguishing it and tossing the butt into the trash can in the hallway. He walked a couple of steps closer to Ziya and asked.
"Sun Meng wants a Red Bean Bun, so I'm going to buy it for her." The two chatted as they made their way toward the exit. The corridor was quiet, occasionally interrupted by a pair of visitors or family members carrying care packages.
Suddenly, Sun Meng's phone, which she had tucked under her pillow, rang. With her right hand hooked up to the IV, she struggled to pull out the phone with her left hand and answered it.
"Hello..." She parted her pale lavender lips as she listened intently to the voice on the other end of the line, her eyes darting around in curiosity about who was calling.
When the person on the other end revealed their identity, Sun Meng's eyes welled up with tears. They cascaded down her pale face like pearls strung loose from a broken necklace.
"How did you know I was in the hospital?" Sun Meng asked Liang Chao, her voice trembling. The long-awaited feeling of hope and emotion overwhelmed her, and she couldn't help but shed tears.
"Are you... okay?" Sun Meng took a long time to utter this brief greeting. Though she had countless words to say, she didn't know which one to choose, ultimately settling on the simplest and most fitting expression of concern.
Ziya and Severe Cold returned to the hospital room with Red Bean Bun in hand. As they opened the door...
"Hi! Liang Chao, you..." Ziya's voice was filled with surprise, a slight tremor in her heart as she thought: This is good news. Just when Sun Meng needed comfort, that irreplaceable emotional support, Liang Chao arrived like a timely blessing.
"Hi! How are you?" Liang Chao was just about to feed a small piece of apple to Sun Meng when he heard the door open. Ziya entered, her hair flowing gracefully, a hint of melancholy in her eyes. She was still as beautiful as ever, exuding an elegant demeanor with an air of subtle aloofness surrounding her. Beside her stood a remarkably handsome man. Who was he? Ziya's boyfriend?
"Hello, Severe Cold." While Liang Chao was momentarily stunned, Severe Cold stepped forward and politely introduced himself.
"Ah! Hello, Liang Chao." Liang Chao felt a sudden pang of jealousy rise within him, unsure if it was envy or something else entirely.
"Alright, you two, don't you feel tired holding hands like that?" Ziya remarked as she noticed the two seemed to be silently competing with their gazes, holding onto each other as if no one else existed...
