Four boys from Class Two watched as the Seventh Grade Class surrounded them, silently thinking: A wise man avoids immediate losses. There were too many of them, so they decided to temporarily avoid the confrontation and settle accounts with Chen Zhiqing later.
So why did these boys from Class Two get into a conflict with Zhiqing? The incident began on Fang Ziya's first day at school. Ziya, lost in the new environment, was looking around when she encountered these unruly guys.
"Hey! Girl, can't find your way? Let me show you..." They said, reaching out to grab Ziya.
With so many students around, how did they single out Ziya? Upon closer inspection, it was clear that Ziya was the type that various boys liked—tall, fair-skinned, and with a quiet demeanor. When she appeared at the school gate, she became the center of attention.
Zhiqing was also there to register, but being a local, he had heard about these troublemakers before.
"What do you want? Bullying is nothing!" Zhiqing charged forward without considering that these guys were taller than him and looked like typical delinquents. He grabbed the frightened Ziya and pulled her behind him for protection.
"Kid, are you looking for trouble?" Three or four of them closed in, one grabbing Zhiqing by the collar and threateningly pointing a finger at his nose.
Zhiqing stared back defiantly, showing no fear. "You don't even know who I am. We're not afraid of you. I don't believe you can turn things upside down in your own backyard."
"So what if you're local? I can squash you like an ant—believe it or not?" The tall one looked like a rich kid, while nearby classmates whispered that Zhiqing was in trouble today.
Just then, a girl known as Doll Face appeared at the school gate. Upon seeing her, Ziya shouted, "Sun Meng..."
"Hey! Ziya! Why didn't you wait for me? You ran off alone and made me think you stayed home!" Sun Meng exclaimed as she approached.
Ziya met her with teary eyes. "I... just now... I was so scared." She turned to look at the tense boys again—the tall one still gripping Zhiqing's collar, flanked by three others cheering him on. They all wore small earrings and had an alternative style that made them look like street thugs.
"Are they fighting?" Sun Meng asked excitedly; she loved watching fights and couldn't help but grin at the scene.
"No, that little guy saved me. He faced three or four people all by himself..." Ziya hurriedly interrupted Sun Meng's shouting and whispered.
"What? Who dares to bully you? I'll take care of them right now." As he spoke, Sun Meng boldly stepped forward, hands on his hips, and shouted at the group of boys, "What the hell do you want? My uncle is in the police department. Do you believe that tomorrow I can invite you to a free meal and a stay at a free iron-bar hotel?"
Ha! Look at how confidently he spoke; the group of troublemakers indeed showed surprise on their faces. Although they continued to curse, at least they stopped harassing Zhiqing and let him go. However, later on, the troublemakers somehow found out that Sun Meng didn't actually have an uncle working in the police department. It was Wang Yuan who had connections with the police through an uncle in logistics, but that had kept them intimidated for quite some time.
Now that Wang Yuan was gone, those connections were lost. The troublemakers used An Jian's withdrawal from the game as an excuse to make things difficult for Zhiqing, seeking revenge for a year-old grudge.
Panting heavily, Ziya, Zhi Qing, and An Jian finally stopped running. "Let's surround them with our classmates; they probably won't dare to chase us," Sun Meng suggested.
"Haha, you really are something! You made that guy scream like a baby," Zhiqing said while squatting on the ground, both amused and exasperated, nearly crying from laughter.
"Still laughing? Do you think you can win against them? Why don't you just run?" Ziya thought about how every time it was Zhiqing who helped her out of trouble, which only deepened their complicated relationship.
"Damn it! Run? At least I'm a man! Didn't you hear how they called me? Coward... Damn it, Wang Yuan was our guardian angel. Now that he's gone, those seeking revenge are back," Zhiqing said bitterly.
"Are we still going to carry out tonight's plan?" An Jian asked timidly. Deep down, he hoped Zhiqing would cancel it. The cries of Ghost Baby were no joke; they were quite terrifying. It was said that those who heard it lightly would suffer from feverish disturbances for several days, while those severely affected could even lose their sanity.
"Of course we're going! Sun Meng saw everything; we need to figure this out. Besides, my mom is quite capable. How about I ask her for a fortune-telling?" Zhiqing teased.
"Your mom? Who would believe that? Didn't you say it was fake?" Ziya immediately retorted. Sun Meng remained silent beside them, completely different from his earlier heroic demeanor.
"Mengmeng, what do you think?"
"I... what can I say? I really saw that thing in the bathroom. I wouldn't lie to you..." Sun Meng was afraid they wouldn't believe her and wanted to explain that she was a little dog, but Ziya interrupted her.
"Alright, you don't need to swear. I believe you! How about you stay in the dorm tonight while the two of us check it out?" Ziya glanced at Zhiqing and An Jian as she spoke to Sun Meng.
Sun Meng remained silent, secretly deciding to see for herself later. However, she couldn't shake off the memory of the bathroom situation; that bloody thing must have left some trace on the white tiles!
"Let's go check the bathroom!"
"Fine, let's go. If those bastards dare to cause trouble again, I'm not someone to mess with," Zhiqing said angrily.
"Their homeroom teacher can't do anything about them either. They're all spoiled brats, and it seems their families can't control them. Remember that guy with dyed hair? He played all night at the arcade, and his dad even brought him chicken soup because he was worried he'd get tired staying up late," An Jian said, a hint of envy on his face.
"Damn it, rich kids. That's not love; it's harm," Zhiqing scoffed, muttering as she looked at An Jian's expression.
"By the way, everyone in their class hates those four. They're really domineering in class, and the teachers are helpless against them." The four of them turned back from where they came and didn't see any sign of those four along the way; they probably returned to their classroom.
Ziya and the others arrived at the bathroom. The boys couldn't enter, so only Sun Meng and Ziya went in. As they stepped inside, Ziya asked, "Where did you see that thing?"
"Right under your feet," Sun Meng replied, startling Ziya so much that she nearly screamed.
