Liang Chao suddenly saw a shadow darting across in front of the car, startling him into slamming on the brakes. The car screeched loudly, causing Ziya and Sun Meng, who were sitting in the back seat, to grip their seats and lean forward to see what was happening. 0

"Oh no, oh no, I shouldn't have been so careless after drinking. I hit someone..." Liang Chao bowed his head, gripping his hair in frustration but dared not get out to check. He knew that drinking and driving could lead to points being deducted from his license or even its suspension. And now, having hit someone while under the influence? He couldn't even imagine the consequences. 0

"I'll go take a look," Sun Meng said, realizing the gravity of the situation. She pushed herself up and turned the door handle, stepping out of the car. 0

"I'll check too," Ziya followed her out, moving toward the front of the car to inspect the tires and the area visible from there. They found no signs of blood or any indication that someone had been run over. The streetlights illuminated the flower beds on either side of the road, casting a warm glow. Occasionally, a car would rush by, stirring up a flurry of papers that fluttered down nearby. The two squatted down again for a closer look when Ziya noticed something on one of the tires. She reached out to poke it and brought it closer to her eyes. "What is this?" Sun Meng murmured to herself. Both Ziya and Liang Chao remained silent, feeling an eerie atmosphere filling the car. First, they nearly had an accident; now it seemed they had run over a pet dog—was this just a coincidence? 0

Liang Chao was acutely aware that he had clearly seen a figure glaring at him before colliding with the vehicle. Why was it that what lay beneath the tire was merely an inconsequential pet dog? He let out a heavy sigh and restarted the engine, a sense of gloom settling within the confined space of the car. Just as Ziya began to feel somewhat relieved, an unsettling sensation washed over her—similar to when she had been searching for Liu in the building. 0

Sun Meng had intended to lighten the mood with some conversation but noticed both of them were sullen and unresponsive. She certainly didn't want to be left talking to herself! Nevertheless, she couldn't remain silent either. Leaning over from Liang Chao's side, she grabbed her bag and pulled out a pack of gum, offering one piece to Ziya while popping another into her mouth and chewing noisily. 0

Upon arriving at the school gate, Sun Meng and Ziya got out of the car while Liang Chao headed back to his clinic. "Drive slowly..." Sun Meng called after him, still feeling uneasy as she watched him hurry away. Once his car turned around the corner, they strolled toward their dormitory. 0

"Ziya, are you scared?" 0

"What do you mean?" 0

"The dog we just ran over," Sun Meng said with an unusually serious expression on her face. She had completely shed her earlier playful demeanor; it seemed she had hidden her feelings from Liang Chao. 0

"Scared? Even ants have lives; how much more so for dogs—they're man's best friend..." Ziya replied sadly. She didn't blame Liang Chao; she just felt that tonight's events were too strange. 0

"Someone might die in that building." Sun Meng suddenly blurted out, confirming Ziya's inner fears. A chill ran down Ziya's spine as she froze in place. The words dropped like a bomb into her previously calm mind, leaving her feeling cold all over. 0

"Who, who will be next?" Ziya suddenly became agitated again. The sting in her nose felt unbearable, as if the next victim could be one of her loved ones. 0

"I shouldn't tell you this. You're not being calm, and it's worrying a lot of people," Sun Meng said, her demeanor more serious than ever, which only heightened Ziya's genuine sense of panic. 0

"Sun Meng, please save them. Who is next? Tell me," Ziya pleaded, grabbing Sun Meng's arm. 0

"Enough! Didn't you see what just happened? The dog that was crushed wasn't a coincidence or an accident; something is warning us to stay out of it. Do you still want to go to the building? Wake up! With our strength, we can't possibly contend with that person. It would only drag more people down... Do you understand?" Sun Meng forcefully shook off Ziya's hand and walked ahead alone. 0

Ziya thought of Fox Ning, the unsettling feeling gnawing at her. She knew Sun Meng had her own struggles. The reason she chose to become a psychologist was to control her own mental issues. In elementary school, she had been mocked by classmates, bullied by boys who hurled insults at her, even spat on and called a freak. On her way home from school, there were always three or five kids still losing their baby teeth who would laugh and chase after her, shouting that a witch was coming. 0

"Please, I know you're in a difficult position, but... they are all innocent," Ziya continued as she followed Sun Meng into the dormitory, trying to persuade her to help the people inside the building. 0

"Just rest! Don't get tangled up in this; I won't agree to it," Sun Meng said as she rolled up her sleeves and tidied the bed, dusting it off with a feather duster. She hadn't slept here for several days, so it must have gathered some dust! 0
