Ziya looked at the three people standing at the door: a frail girl who seemed to be nothing but skin and bones, an elderly man with a head full of silver hair, and a woman who must be Lao Ran's wife. Her face was haggard, her eyes hollow and devoid of life, and her disheveled hair fell messily across her forehead. She trembled slightly, as if moved by an unseen wind, giving off an eerie feeling. 0

The security guard had a terrible attitude, shouting violently and scaring the girl into loud sobs, her tears bright red. The old man and the middle-aged woman gently comforted the girl, helplessly looking up at the building, their expressions revealing an endless despair. After a moment, they mechanically turned away, and Ziya hurriedly pulled out a delicate glass bottle from her pocket, containing a small amount of shiny, transparent viscous liquid. That was her secret weapon; just a little dab would allow her to see what humans could not... 0

As Ziya suddenly appeared before them, the old man and the woman were taken aback, but the girl seemed to take an instant liking to the older sister figure. 0

"Sister, you're so pretty," the girl exclaimed as she slipped free from her mother's hand and grabbed Ziya's hand. A chill ran through Ziya's palm as the girl held on. 0

The old man and woman exchanged glances, their faces showing signs of trembling fear as they softly urged the girl, "Xin'er, don't be naughty. We need to find your father." 0

Ziya's first instinct was to realize that these three were not human. Looking at their cold, pale faces sent a shiver down her spine, reminding her of Lao Ran. At that moment, she felt a sensitive chill creeping along her back; she knew they had unfinished business. Why did she have this inexplicable ability? Whether it was fear or dread, now was not the time for hesitation. 0

"No! Sister will take us to see Daddy, right?" The girl suddenly lifted her head, blood and brain matter oozing from it. She had died beneath the collapsed prefab after burning... Ziya gently nodded, wanting desperately to pull away from the increasingly cold grip of the girl's hand. 0

But she hesitated for a moment longer and smiled softly. "Yes! I will help you fulfill your wishes." The old man and woman revealed ghostly smiles of relief as they slowly turned away into the darkness and gradually disappeared. Suddenly Ziya felt empty-handed; the girl vanished like air, leaving only the faint sound of crying fading into the distance. 0

The security guard at the entrance continued to grin eerily at his yellowed pages; it seemed even ghosts had their own kinds of desires. Ziya looked up at the building, which was enveloped in a blueish hue. Inside, however, the spirits were controlled by an invisible force that prevented them from releasing their grievances; those who had died in this building could not escape, nor could their families see them. 0

At that moment, Ziya's phone suddenly rang. Looking down, she saw a message from Qin Nannan: "We have confirmed that there was a fire in the dormitory area behind News Agency due to a family leaving their herbal medicine boiling on the gas stove while they went out shopping. Only an elderly person and a fourteen-year-old girl were home. It was Sunday; the girl was doing homework while her grandmother was bedridden. The pot burned dry without anyone knowing that her mother was still up late preparing medicine for her grandmother. With exams approaching, studying was especially important; she had vowed to get into a good high school." 0

"The pot burned up; liquefied gas spread uncontrollably throughout the nearly vacant floor of this dilapidated building. With water and electricity cut off, there was no way to drive Lao Ran's family out before they could evacuate. It wasn't until Lao Ran's wife returned from shopping that she discovered the exploded pot. A rush of gas knocked down the child before igniting a lighter without realizing that liquefied gas had filled the entire floor... then came an explosion..." 0

The phone felt weightless in her hand as silence enveloped her surroundings like death itself. Ziya stepped into the building; it felt just like reality—people coming and going—but everything appeared chaotic and blurry like ghostly shadows. Only a few individuals in her mind stood out clearly before her as she entered. Just as that day when she and Qin Nannan had seen it together, a neat-looking woman named Liu emerged with a smile and said, "You're here?" Her tone suggested familiarity with Ziya's presence. 0

"Well, Liu." 0

"Hey! Isn't your boyfriend coming?" Liu stretched his neck, looking past Ziya. 0

"No, he's quite busy." Ziya felt a haze surrounding her, unsure if she was just confused or if something else was at play. She tried to shake it off, but the fog remained. 0

At this point, some might wonder why people could linger in this strange space between the living and the dead. The answer is simple: a person who had strong beliefs or unfulfilled wishes in life, along with a deep attachment to their family, could create an invisible force that seeks to invade the minds of others. Occasionally, when memories resurface unexpectedly, it can be startling, can't it? 0

There's a saying that generally holds true: when someone dies, their soul remains if they have attachments or unfinished business. If they have no ties or regrets, their soul may only exist for a few seconds before dissipating like smoke. Their body becomes an unfeeling shell, leading to cremation without any sense of pain. 0

Another perspective suggests that if someone suffered injustice or had unfulfilled desires in life, they might resist leaving before their time. After death, their thoughts can manifest as a powerful force—an evil message that constantly seeks to fulfill its wishes or exact revenge. 0
